Introduction
I share these insights found in the astrological chart of Barack Obama as he completes his tenure as the 44th President of the United States of America. 44 is considered to be a Master Number in numerology, symbolizing someone who is particularly gifted to create lasting beneficial change in the physical dimension. 44 also adds up to an 8, which is about power, how we use power, the right use of power.
Barack Obama is a community organizer, inspirational and visionary leader, devoted father and husband, private in nature, gifted orator and legal scholar, bridge builder — all these attributes show up in his natal chart.
I have heard from wise spiritual sources, whom I trust, that Barack Obama is the reincarnation of Abraham Lincoln. Evaluating both his history and his legacy, this makes sense to me. He has moved us significantly further along the endless, challenging path to create a more perfect Union. I post this on January 20, 2017, as a way of paying tribute to this most masterful leader and citizen. Farewell, President Obama. Thank you.

The Astrological Chart of President Barack Obama
I will first name the astrological aspect, then discuss the meaning of the aspect. Because of the unique way I interpret sidereal astrology, bridging both the tropical and sidereal zodiacs, I will mention both systems at various times. It is my opinion, the tropical chart is more about the personality, past habits even past lives, versus the sidereal map, which exists in present time with the true galactic alignments, articulating one’s higher perspective, and greater soul potential, aka, the higher Self.
Sun in sidereal Cancer in the Sixth House
The Sun symbolizes one’s core outer purpose in the world. Given that Obama is a sidereal Cancer, he is private, somewhat introverted (meaning ‘sourced from within’), a studious student of history, family-oriented, and likes to work with a small core team of trusted people he considers to be as family. Given that he is a tropical Leo, he is able to rise out of that interior comfort zone, have a healthy ego and belief he could do the job of President, manifesting as a playful, humorous performer, bringing warmth in his presentation of self. When he gets to work, however, he pulls in, and relies on his closest advisors, including his wife, Michelle.
The 6th House, where his Sun resides, is the house of community organizers and healers who prefer to work from behind the scenes. They are like the directors of a film: they have the ultimate creative say as to what makes it to the cutting table, and they naturally bring the whole team together in cohesiveness. They don’t need the attention that an actor might seek. People with Sun in the 6th house feel a true devotion to serve. Genuine humility and deference to others are associated are with this house. So these, too, are attributes that describe Barak Obama’s modus operendi.
Neptune in Libra in Ninth House square Sun
Neptune in a chart shows where a person is artistic, spiritual and romantic and what they aspire to achieve in terms of helping create a greater good for all of Earth. The 9th House is the home of professors, visionary political leaders, long-range planners, exceptional athletes and coaches. With Neptune in the 9th House, one’s highest spiritual aspirations are met through political and spiritual service. Obama’s Neptune is in Libra, the sign of justice, balance, peace-making and diplomacy. Despite the overt hurdles he faced (when the powers in power literally stated they would obstruct him every step of the way from the day he entered office), he never stopped preaching the message of hope and possibility, and showed a never-ending, some might think, naive, willingness to reach across the aisle.
Neptune makes a challenging square to Obama’s Sun, meaning he has to continually make choices and take actions that support this higher vision, while experiencing tension and attacks from others. It also shows up as a tension in how to bring his lofty visions of change down to Earth. The square can feel like impossible hardships but the determination to find a way through to new solutions. That’s why he was both a roll-up-your-sleeves organizer while also functioning as a coach to those he leads.
I often referred to Obama as Educator-in-Chief. This aspect is why some criticize Obama for his long-winding answers to a sound-bite press core. He is always trying to uplift the dialogue and bring us to a more inclusive place. This is where the credo of the Obamas comes from: “When they go low, we go high.”
Moon in Taurus in the Fourth House
I joke with my friends that President Obama is from the Pleiades, and that I have seen his birth certificate! Indeed I have, as this shows up in his astrological birth chart. Seriously though, his Moon (which indicates one’s basic emotional style and what one needs in order to be happy), is aligned with the constellation of the Pleiades, whose purpose is to transform being a fear-based reality to being a love-centered world. In his tropical chart, Obama’s Moon is in Gemini, a sign of curiosity, political savvy, reading, writing, multi-tasking. Gemini also sees things through the polarized lens of right and wrong, black and white, or, seeks to bridge dualities. The tropical Moon possibly reverberates back to his life as Lincoln or issues that are inherited through his family lineages, so it’s interesting he is biracial, having a white mother and black father.
Obama’s Moon sits at the very bottom of his chart in the 4th House of home, family and the source of one’s roots and foundation in the world. This is why he is such a devoted family man. In addition, both Ceres (caregiving, parenting) and Vesta (focus and dedication) are conjunct his Moon. He means it when he says being a father is his greatest joy. When one’s Moon sits at the nadir like his does, it means one might have unfinished business and has returned to build upon one’s past life legacy.
Chiron in Aquarius in the First House square Moon opposite Pluto
Obama is the archetype of the Chiron, the Wounded Healer. The 1st House defines the way the world sees one and one’s basic personality structure. Chiron represents the reality that out of one’s suffering, one will seek self-healing, then give back in service to help others heal similar wounds. President Obama’s Chiron is in Aquarius, the sign of serving humanity, bringing futuristic ideas and collective solutions, while also being emotionally detached from normal human drama. This is where he can appear aloof and exhibit emotional control while also expressing compassion and caring. Aquarius is called the Waterman, and is archetype for a future human that will be more concerned about the health of the entire community versus self-aggrandizement. In my opinion, President Obama, modeling this kind of leadership that we will demand in future times, remains healing water in a thirsty desert.
Obama’s Moon is in a T-square (stressful, decisive) to Chiron and Pluto, symbolizing he is here to let go of the old story of suffering and work toward creating a healthier, joyful world for all. Chiron in his 1st House indicates he might be used as a scape-goat by others, but he is willing to take the projection and move forward. This is where he knows that he will not be appreciated by all during the time he served, but in the longer view of history, I think he knows he will be remembered as one of the greatest and effective Presidents the world will ever see.
Capricorn Ascendant
The Ascendant represents one’s personality expression, how one looks and presents oneself. As a tropical Aquarius Ascendant, Obama was seen as the radical community organizer, advocating for change as an outsider to the mainstream. His soul challenge was to step into the leadership of his true Capricorn Ascendant, infiltrating the institutions by taking his progressive views and changing the system from within. The star that governs his Ascendant is Nashira, associated with gifted legal minds and hearts.
Mercury in the Sixth House opposite Saturn/Jupiter in the Twelfth House
In this aspect, we see Obama’s extraordinary gift at oration as well as planting seeds of progressive ideas in regards to our social contracts. He was born during a year in which Jupiter and Saturn make a once-every-twenty year conjunction, launching the next historical cycle of social and political shifts. The fact that his personal Mercury sits opposite this generational aspect makes him an excellent spokesperson for his generation. He intuitively understands when to take a risk of expansion (Jupiter) and when to pull back and be more conservative (Saturn). He truly is designed to work collaboratively with all parties, given half a chance, and is a superb negotiator.
Mars trine Saturn/Jupiter
Obama’s natural skill as both athlete and warrior (Mars’s domain) is seen in this alignment. This is why Obama could play the rough and brutal game of politics and still come out smiling, confident and skilled in creating change. This is also where his ego and confidence are naturally strong, not needing the approval of others.
Saturn/Uranus/Pallas Athene Yod
The geometry of a yod (which looks like a tall narrow triangle) manifests as a powerful desire and destiny that arises out unfinished business in one’s ancestral lineage. It’s about honoring the best of where one came from, yet feeling internally pressured to take the next step. President Obama’s yod has Pallas Athene (goddess of wisdom and justice) and Saturn (the status quo) forming the base of the triangle, symbolizing his talent in law and appreciation of tradition as a constitutional scholar. The point of his yod releases through Uranus (revolution, change, innovation), mirroring his message of hope and change, nudging society further along the never-ending path of evolution. In addition, Uranus is aligned with his North Lunar Node, the point in a natal chart that symbolizes the future he came to fulfill.

Contemplations
As we enter the unchartered territory of this changing of the political guards, it seems we will no longer have trusted stable leadership at the top, but shockingly chaotic, erratic, and unfocused energy assuming that presumed leadership role. This reality has many people extremely fearful about the possible destruction of all they hold dear, be that family security, clean water, fresh air, a free press, healthcare, public lands, fairness and justice for all, the Constitution. The list goes on. What this means is that the power to safeguard all we hold dear is now more glaringly in our own hands.
It will be up to us to embody the kind of leadership that President Obama embodied, imparted, every day he was in office. The way we carry ourselves in the world, the words that arise from our hearts and mouths, it is up to us to go high when others go low. We are blessed beyond measure to be citizens of the United States of America. True patriotism comes with realizing the responsibility that comes with being a citizen of this great nation. Each of us must find our own activation and motivation to continue this good journey. Daily engagement is required. Vocalizing compassion is required. Caring for all is required. Being a beckon of love, justice, compassion for all is the bedrock of America. Anything less is not American.
Many of us will greatly miss our masterful 44th President who coached us to that higher calling. I, for one, am grateful he was willing to make this great personal sacrifice and chose to serve.
In President Obama’s final speech in Chicago, his reminder to us was this: “ The most important job in a democracy: citizen”. He sent us on our way with that line. And, remember: we have each other. Let’s keep going.
In Beauty, we will finish.
