Last Quarter Moon
“Watchful Guardian” photograph by Julia Heemstra
I dedicate this post to the extraordinary Anthony Birkholz, wise beyond your years, a beacon of creative light, undaunted activism and joy for all who know you. Journey well, beloved friend.
When I look at this photograph, I sense the presence of an Owl Guardian or Pallas Athene, Goddess of Wisdom, also associated with Lady Justice, who oversees and ensures justice will be done. Thank you, Julia Heemstra, for sharing this oracular photograph from your recent adventure. It is the perfect image for this week given the unnerving terrain we are all doing our best to traverse.
This week’s transits are all about activism and standing up for what you feel is just and fair. Mars square Saturn on January 19 spells ‘ouch’ for many, possibly creating a further rise in frustrations or heat symptoms in the body. Unexplained outburst of rage or a feeling of hitting a wall can be part of this. Planets are force fields, influencing us, and this one is particularly forceful. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to find a way to not be so reactive that you cause further damage to your own health or to others. That might not be easy, there is choice involved. Thankfully, more cooperative alignments occur as the week progresses.
Here is a description of the qualities of the Last Quarter Moon phase compliments of my friend and sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza at Lunar Planner:
“This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. A sense of completion comes forth with a recognition that the past scenario has served its purpose and it is time to leave what is antiquated behind. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.”
Note: I write my posts according to the Lunar cycles, posting on the New, First Quarter, Full and Third Quarter Moons. If you work with and within the natural flow of time, the 13 Moon cycle, your life will flow with more ease and grace. My interpretations and predictions are based on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. Last Quarter Moon: Moon in Libra square Sun in Capricorn: This aspect involves astrological signs linked to how we relate in our relationships and how we respond to the responsibilities of those alliances. This square can indicate things are up for discussion, even making a new plans going forward. Also use this energy for completing tasks, redefining goals you might launch with the next New Moon on January 27.
Mars in Aquarius square Saturn in Scorpio: Both these planets are about to step into their next astrological sign, but meet up in this tense square at the 29th degree (symbolizing completion) which can lead to confrontations that harken back to the challenges of 2016, including reverberations from political dramas. This aspect can bring out the worst in people, can call forth buried frustrations too long held within. You might find yourself swearing more than usual and experience symptoms of stress, anger, but also, great determination to push through some obstacle.
Mercury in Sagittarius sextile Pallas Athene in Aquarius: This aspect is building today, is exact tomorrow and carries over into January 21. It is superb for planners and organizers, making things tend to flow more easily. It also speaks to strong opinions being expressed through organized community action.

Mon January 23
Mercury in Sagittarius sextile Neptune in Aquarius: This is a faith-filled and hopeful aspect. People are willing to be more optimistic even if they’ve been down in the dumps or gotten stuck in an old way of doing business. Take further steps in some form of spiritual study or make travel plans with this helpful alignment. Converse with relish with others about peering into your future selves, dreaming big about beginning anew.

Thu January 26
Balsamic Moon in Capricorn: This is the last day of our current SolLunar cycle, and as Capricorn is both driven and relentlessly hard-working, that’s what you might feel today. Or, alternatively, book some form of relaxing bodywork and give your being much needed rest.
Saturn enters sidereal Sagittarius: Keep in mind that 2017, which adds up to a ‘one’, carries a strong push to begin anew for many. ‘One’ energy is about initiating bold changes. Today, Saturn, our planetary ruler of creating new forms in the world, leaves the deep reflective, releasing waters of Scorpio, where it’s lived for over two years, and enters dynamic, forward-leaning Sagittarius. This will manifest as increased activism on our whole planet. This budding transit can feel like a breath of optimism is invigorating your world. BUT, Saturn will reenter Scorpio from late June-mid October, signifying further letting go of an old identity, like packing up and moving to a new location. This will also play itself out in our politics with possible exposes that emerged in 2016. By late October, you will have fully birthed your new life, whatever that means for you.
