First Quarter Moon
“Grizzly 760” photograph by Daryl Hunter
I am re-posting this picture of our Grand Teton Grizzly 760. On May 26, we are holding a memorial in honor of his short but inspiring life. Thank you Cindy Campbell for starting his Facebook page the day we all learned of his untimely death and for creating this ceremony in his name (to be found on FB at 760: His Life, His Death). 760’s life has already touched and catalyzed many people to further protect the territory and lives of our still endangered Grizzly Bear populations. His mother, 610 with her two new coy, his grandmother, 399 and his siblings are still often seen roaming his homeland. Thank you Daryl for this captivating joyful photograph of 760.

In this week’s astrological cycle, we are launched into action by the First Quarter Moon. Also, remember Mercury is still retrograde till June 11, perhaps forcing many things to break so they can ultimately be fixed or replaced. And it might get more intense as now Mercury will join activist, agitating Mars. We are in some fiery times, and there is a good chance for more earthquakes and wild weather with this activating conjunction.
Here’s a list of the First Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza ~ http://www.lunarplanner.com/:
“The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps to move forth on what you were inspired about. The inspiration is now gone, it is time to now participate in trust and knowing. Remember, the flower that is about to burst forth from the bud is not yet visible. Trust in the process. Demonstrate this trust in physical action and you will be supported. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. What you are putting together now is the groundwork for the manifestation of the theme. Simply, this phase is a time to work.”
Please note: I make my posts according to the Lunar cycles as a way of helping you work with the natural flow of time and energy. Also, I base my interpretations and predictions on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. Mon May 25
First Quarter Moon: The artistic and playful Leo Moon makes a catalyzing square with the earthy Taurus Sun. This is a fine combination for getting to work on your various art forms. It’s about buying the supplies, or if you already have the tools, it’s about picking up that brush or pen and begin the act of painting or writing. For you mechanical or design types, it’s about beautifying that vehicle or home. And for you nutritionists and health enthusiasts, realize how making healthy diet and exercise choices everyday naturally manifests in external beauty. Leo knows “in beauty, it is finished” as the wise Native American adage goes.
Venus in Gemini square Uranus in Pisces: This aspect can bring wonderful new friends into your life that are very different from you. It also brings up the need to have emotional conversations and talk through what’s really going on, finding your way back to forgiveness and compassion, while also giving you permission to detach for other people’s problems that are ultimately theirs to resolve.
Mars in Taurus squares Neptune in Aquarius: The theme of creative productivity is at play with this aspect. Neptune is a ruler of creative inspiration and Mars always speaks to our desire to act. The square aspect sometimes means you have to consciously choose to break of old patterns of inertia, and make better habits and choices.
Tue May 26
Mercury retrograde conjunct Mars: Although this aspect is exact in the overnight hours tonight and will reverberate all through this week, I thought it’s good to give fair warning about this in advance. This aspect is sure to spark much needed emotional honesty as well as passionate conversations about what you currently most care about, be that a cause, or simply sharing time with a beloved. Globally, this aspect is about caring for our sacred beauty-filled Earth and will spawn all kinds of new ideas for actions going forward. Remember, it’s not till after June 11 when Mercury goes direct that you might consider launching the ideas hatched today. Keep the conversations on-going.
Wed May 27
Moon in Virgo opposite Vesta in Pisces: The Virgo Moon represents our more discriminating side, meaning we can literally be overly critical and discriminate against others, or just find ourselves becoming more discerning in our choices. Vesta in compassionate Pisces encourages us to focus on what’s really going on at the deepest feeling level. This can help us not be needlessly judgmental.
Venus in Gemini trine Chiron in Aquarius: This is a delightful pairing of our heart energy, Venus, in communicative Gemini, in a supportive trine to Chiron in Aquarius, which encourages us to be vulnerable with our friends and community members. Excellent day for taking a friend to lunch or going for a walk, or going for a drive with one of your favorite elders.
Thu May 28
Virgo Moon conjunct North Node: This monthly rendezvous of the health, service-oriented Virgo Moon with the North Node (ruler of your future destiny) can activate the need to make an important choice about where you want to go next. Think of gently eliminating one thing that causes you stress, be that a type of food, beverage, way of relating/thinking, and consciously replace it with a healthier choice. Taking it one step at a time is sometimes a good option when we are trying to make permanent shifts.
Virgo Moon square Pluto in Sagittarius: This aspect builds late into the night and overnight and can create a bit of emotional obsession within you. You can channel this into constructive late night activity if you are a night-owl, but you also might remind yourself that calming breathe and meditation are other tools to deal with obsessive over-thinking.
Fri May 29
Virgo Moon square Venus in Gemini opposite Uranus in Pisces: This T-Square aspect can be both confrontative and creative, as that’s the nature of the square aspect. Venus in Gemini loves to keep it light, Virgo Moon likes to go deeper into a matter, and Uranus in Pisces sparks out-of-the-blue solutions and a thawing of stubborn judgmental hearts. All in all, this alignment bodes well for conversing on many levels at once, honoring both what we think we should do and what we feel like doing.
And it’s the Gibbous Moon. Again, this from Nick:
“This phase brings a strong desire to connect and involve with others. The outer and opposite is alluring. It is a time of exploration and involvement with others. Flowers not only blossom to reveal their beauty, but their functional purpose is to provide the pollination required to bear fruit. This interaction brings clarity of purpose and builds into the enthusiastic energy required for fulfillment. Communication and intermixing of energies is highlighted. The purpose is to be of value to each other, stimulating creativity. Share your vision and direction, what you have been working on. The 3 1/2-day Pollinating Phase is a social time, which will culminate on the Full Moon.
The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.”
Sat May 30
Mercury retrograde square Neptune: As this planetary interaction takes place in the middle of the night, you might awaken confused or inspired having been given a life-changing dream. Check your calendar for the day ahead: this energy can manifest as forgetfulness or just feeling a bit fuzzy in your head. Mercury/Neptune alignments tend to be better for right-brain creative activities versus analytical left-brain focusing.
Mercury retrograde conjunct Sun in sidereal Taurus: Next mental Mercury makes an exact conjunction with our illuminating Sun and something might become exceptionally clear that you have not been able to articulate before. They align with Aldebaran, a royal star linked to political players and politics in general, so watch the world stage today for all kinds of fireworks, some constructive, some very destructive.
Sun May 31
Sun in Taurus square Neptune in Aquarius: This quarterly aspect can make for a day of pushing through, following through on the next important step of a creative project. This alignment can also bring to light some kind of deception, or way you are deceiving yourself, and help you see with a clearer eye and heart, providing you aren’t choosing to stay in denial. Neptune rules both our higher calling to forgive while also not allowing ourselves to live in fantasy that is clearly failing us. Pay attention to the clues your body is giving you as you learn to trust your more intuitive way of knowing.
Moon in Libra square Jupiter/Juno in Cancer: This passing aspect can make for the need for a clarifying peace-making conversation with a beloved and also manifest as making important decisions regarding family matters.
Juno in Cancer trine Uranus in Pisces: This longer-range aspect can bring to completion processes and problems you have been needing to work out with beloveds or colleagues since early winter. The trine indicates things will resolve with a positive outcome, providing all parties did their work, were honest, took responsibility for their part, and were ready to release the past so as to more forward again.
Mon June 1
Moon/Saturn conjunct in Scorpio: This once-monthly heavy-duty alignment precedes our exciting Full Moon tomorrow. Saturn speaks to getting focused but also can feel like you are being controlled by outside forces. I am always reminded of how much my beloved dog Cola with her Scorpio Moon resisted her leash, every time. Makes me laugh and cry, all at once. When our emotional, feeling Moon enters the deep investigative waters of Scorpio you can temporarily feel more serious, a tad depressed, in need of privacy or intimate conversation with your closest person. Remember that wild dark thunderstorms are usually followed by fresher air, sunshine, and often, a rainbow.
