New SolLunar Cycle in Capricorn
“Interwoven” photograph by Lyn Dalebout
Welcome to a New SolLunar cycle in sidereal Capricorn, this one coinciding with the Chinese New Year ~ Year of the Yin Fire Rooster. Here are a few attributes that stand out to me. In Rooster years, we can take greater responsibility for our own lives and happiness, get organized and use cautious courage to take calculated risks. We can learn to better hear and trust our own intuitions and instincts, and not be blindly led by others, mass consciousness or un-evolved leaders. Lastly, the mixture of water (the Yin element) can be explosive and volatile when mixed with fire. You may need to spout off often to express your truth, much like a beautiful wild Yellowstone geyser.
Also this week, Mercury and Pluto make their final conjunction on January 29, bringing to completion challenging events from December/January that were part of the Mercury retrograde cycle.
I post this picture of a stunning web of water droplets (the photo cannot capture the exquisite magic) I saw on January 21, the day of the historic global marches of an activated citizenry. It’s a fitting oracle for showing how interwoven and cooperative we can be as a human species, if we choose to do so.
Out of the events of last week, here’s what came to me. We are in a planetary emergency, in the worst and best sense of that word — emerging into something new, hopefully better, as we head into 2017. It’s ‘all hands on deck’, an idiom which means this: We have a large amount of work to do in a short amount of time.
My prayer: May every human connect with their deepest concerns and calling, and take their unique gifts and service to the next level. No competition, all contributing. That’s how our world will heal and all Beings will thrive. We have a large amount of work to do in a short amount of time. All hands on deck, a fitting theme for this week’s New SolLunar cycle.

Here is a list of New Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from LunarPlanner:
“Beginning the Sprouting Phase of the Lunar Cycle, a new theme emerges, a new idea or concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. Often this process is one of discovery, slowly revealing a simple theme over a day or two, or it may be quite clear and specific, even suggesting a major life change. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen.”
Note: I write my posts according to the Lunar cycles, posting on the New, First Quarter, Full and Third Quarter Moons. If you to work with and within these natural flow of time and supportive cosmic energy, your life will flow with more ease and grace. My interpretations and predictions are based on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. Here’s a picture from Star Walk of our New Moon in sidereal Capricorn:
Fri January 27
New SolLunar cycle in sidereal Capricorn: Both Sun and Moon join forces in responsible, driven-to-be-the-best Capricorn, and that may be what the coming month activates in you. Goal setting and aiming your arrows of desire to create what you want are cosmically supported in the next four weeks. It’s a good time to examine where your ambition is taking you next. Ambition is defined as ‘a strong desire to do or achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work.’ Discover organizations, institutions or businesses that support your ideals, as Capricorn likes to be part of an organized, dedicated team.
Venus in Pisces square Saturn in Sagittarius: When Venus and Saturn make a tense alignment, like today’s square, you may need to make decisions in regards to love or money. You ‘sensitives’ might cry if someone unknowingly speaks to direct or harshly to you. Saturn in Sagittarius helps you see the big picture, encouraging you to not needlessly dissipate resources, including where you choose to spend your precious time.
Sat January 28
Venus in Pisces trine Vesta in Cancer: This lovely aspect encourages spending relaxing time with your family members. Important open-hearted conversations can naturally arise out of a sense of feeling safe and loved. Excellent for reading poetry, playing music, making a beautiful, nourishing meal.
Moon in Capricorn trine Jupiter in Virgo: This diligent and deliberate aspect helps you flow from activity to activity, accomplishing much with a sense of grace and ease.
Sun January 29
Mercury/Pluto conjunction in Sagittarius: With this inflammatory aspect, we complete the recent intense Mercury retrograde cycle of December 2016 – January 2017. Piercing honesty or volatile explosions can manifest. Pluto can bring revitalizing health, once it strips you bare. Mercury, as the Messenger, might deliver news of scandals, news of death, or bring a mental clarity that helps you see exactly what you want to focus on next.
Moon/South Lunar Node conjunction in Aquarius: This monthly alignment of liberation from our past (South Lunar Node) is happening the same day as the above aspect, emphasizing completions with old habits, relationships, things. Take those bags to goodwill or gift your friends with things you’ve outgrown but will greatly help them going forward.
Mon January 30
Moon/Pallas Athene/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius: This aspect is highly organizational as well as inspirational, making it a day full of collaboration in your work/home relationships. Perfect for a brain-storming meeting or gathering with a group of friends to share festively.
Tue January 31
Mercury in Sagittarius square Uranus in Pisces: This aspect can be stressful to the nervous system and might lead to mental anxiety, a sudden panic or erratic-ness as you navigate this day. It can also lead to communication/writing breakthroughs after the necessary pacing. Moving the body can move the mind, busting through doubt or inertia.
Moon/Venus/Mars conjunction in Pisces: This gorgeous alignment will be visible at dusk, just after the Sun sets, so be sure to look for it if the skies are clear. Symbolically, this fusion of planets unites what we need with what we desire, with desire to act NOW to make it happen. Set some intentions or say some prayers under this portal of divine, active Love.
Wed February 1
Pallas Athene/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius: This can be a birth moment for something very new entering your life. It’s especially good for visualizing with a team of cohorts. Projects are set in motion today, in your mind’s eye or in literally breaking ground.
Moon in Pisces sextile Sun in Capricorn: This monthly phase of the waxing Moon can manifest as a sense of optimism, bubbling joy.
Thu February 2
Imbolc or Candlemas: For those of us in Earth’s Northern Hemisphere, today marks the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, which is why it is one of my favorite days of the year. Feel the stirrings in your own life of what you will be manifesting in 2017. Today is also called the Festival of Lights. Light candles all day long for that which is complete, for that which is happening now, and for those things you wish to see happen in your future.
Mercury in Sagittarius square Jupiter in Virgo: This mentally expansive aspect can deliver some important news or information about whatever currently has your attention. Plow through backed-up communications and push past any procrastination of late.
Moon/Eris/Uranus/Ceres conjunction: When the fast-moving Moon makes it’s monthly trigger to Eris (the Great Disrupter) and Uranus (revolutions and explosions) a new wave of insights as well as shocking events can hit our world. With nurturing, caregiving Ceres also in mix, work toward finding daily joy and momentary peace in these uncertain times, in order to not implode!
