“The Great Ascent of Silence” painting by Kathryn Mapes Turner
In fitting style, as the grand finale of 2020, our New SolLunar Cycle is also a super-charged Total Solar Eclipse (not visible but felt in our Northern Hemisphere), one sure to be full of drama, life and death transformations due to its alignment in astronomical Scorpio. Both Sun and Moon are also linked to Mercury so this will be a busy four-week period of accelerated connections and communications, negotiations, business dealings, with possible breakdowns in our communications systems and technologies. As I write this, we have already been under cyber-attack by adversaries here in America. It won’t be a surprise of there’s more of that to come.
Also during this Cycle, we will celebrate Winter Solstice, the celestial New Year, at the same moment of the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in sidereal Capricorn which launches a new 20-year period of reshaping, revitalizing, transforming all our collective institutions, governmental agencies, organizations and businesses from the foundations up. Some are referring to this as the Christmas Star, but a better name would be the Winter Solstice Star.
Other events in this SolLunar Cycle include Mars thankfully re-entering Aries on Christmas Day, the final forceful Mars square Pluto on December 23 and Full Moon in sidereal Gemini/Sagittarius on December 29. And this: Venus aligns with the South Lunar Node on December 31, always an aspect of releasing the past. How timely for New Year’s Eve! Honor your own depths of desires you want to co-create with the supportive universe in 2021 and beyond via a ceremony or meditation.
My new EarthWord SkyWord website is nearly complete! We decided to launch it in early January in the new field of 2021. I have immense gratitude for my friend and designer, Michelle McCormick of Lily Pad Creative for her artistic and technical skills and for her ability to intuitively understand her client’s vision. Thank you, beloved Michelle.
Thank you, Kathryn Mapes Turner for once again collaborating with me on which paintings to use as part of this Winter Solstice post. Kathryn’s paintings are masterful contemplations full of peaceful landscapes of stillness and reflection, and also determination and renewal, a perfect mirroring of this time of year and our entrance into 2021.
Readings and Sidereal Mentoring
My posts are based on the sidereal astronomical alignments. As you work with and within the natural flow of time and the supportive cosmic energies that each unique SolLunar Cycle brings, life flows with more ease, grace and understanding.
Thanks for considering sidereal mini-readings with me for $44 or a longer reading for $88, the numbers of living your Mastery on Earth. In these short readings, I discuss key personal transits that are happening for you in 2021 and beyond. I also delight in mentoring students individually or in families, groups, workshops who want to learn more about how to use sidereal astrology as a helpful tool for insight and awakening. Send me an email if you are interested in those options, or a full Natal Map, Update or Relationship Map. Thank you!

New SolLunar Cycle/Total Solar Eclipse in sidereal Scorpio
At the New Moon, you are sprouting like a seed with new creative inspiration. Receive your unique insights by sitting in mediation or just be open to new possibilities arising within you from the sea of infinite creation.
Mon December 14
New SolLunar Cycle Solar Eclipse in sidereal Scorpio conjunct Mercury: In fitting style, as the grand finale of 2020, our New SolLunar Cycle is also a super-charged Total Solar Eclipse (not visible but felt in our Northern Hemisphere), one sure to be full of drama, life and death transformations due to its alignment in astronomical Scorpio. Both Sun and Moon are also linked to Mercury so it will be a busy time of increased connections, negotiations, business dealings, possible breakdowns in our communications systems and technologies.
Venus/Juno conjunction in Scorpio: This annual meet-up brings deep connections, thoughtful conversations and support into your life via key partners and collaborators. Treat a beloved with a special gift. This conjunction is linked to stars in early Scorpio that represent the wisdom of the elders. Elders guide us with humor, skill, clarity and non-attachment because they have experienced much of the light and shadow that life brings to all of us. Seek out the counsel of such elder or consider a mentorship with someone you respect.
Mercury in Scorpio trine Mars in Pisces: In recent posts, I have written about the challenges of our recent Mars retrograde transiting late sidereal Pisces, stirring up drama and smoke screens to keep people trapped in delusions and confusion. This supportive trine brings clarity about what is really going on beneath the surface. It creates a healing space of emotional honesty in our relations.
Ceres in Aquarius sextile Uranus in Aries: This long-range exciting sextile manifests innovative collaborations that involve caring for all of humanity. New friendships are sparked or old ones are reignited. Some might suddenly adopt a rescue pet in need of a home as the human recognizes her or his need of loving companionship.
Tue December 15
Moon in Sagittarius: Yesterday’s many positive aspects are still in play and today’s Moon in Sagittarius ignites fire in our bellies, hearts and minds with new inspiration and courage. This is a welcome shift from the brooding, detoxifying Scorpio Moon of recent days.
Wed December 16
Sun enters sidereal Sagittarius: This entire SolLunar Cycle will carry the seed energy of ‘death-to-the-old-birth-to-the-new’ Scorpio energy. But today’s entrance of our illuminating Sun into astronomical Sagittarius renews your faith, vision, passion. You might feel this energetic shift, leaping out of bed with more pep in your step versus recent days of lingering under the covers wondering what challenges await you next. It is easier to regain enthusiasm and return to an optimistic state of mind.
Moon/Pluto conjunction in Sagittarius: This fierce pairing happens early in the day and provides probing, investigative skill and also strong, focused energy to all your endeavors.
Moon/Jupiter/Saturn/Pallas conjunction in Capricorn: Later in the day the emotional Moon aligns with this serious conjunction in Capricorn. It can help you problem-solve and get organized, or, some might feel overwhelmed by current responsibilities. This pairing is good for executing a plan, imagining a new strategy or curriculum, organizing the physical spaces you inhabit.
Thu December 17
Moon in Capricorn square Uranus in Aries: A sudden shift in plans or change up in your meeting agenda might happen. Be open to being more spontaneous whenever Uranus comes knocking.
Fri December 18
Venus in Scorpio sextile Pallas Athene in Capricorn: Bring more beauty and order to your spaces. Speak with lovingkindess to colleagues and associates. Many financial dealings or partnerships are forming under this aspect. Negotiate for your desires like an increase in salary. Examine your budget. A possible windfall appears.
Moon in Capricorn sextile Mars in Pisces: Similar in nature to the above aspect, this one encourages taking action now versus waiting around for something to shift or improve. Just move to help shift the energy. Walk through doors of opportunity that suddenly appear.
Sat December 19
Sun/Mercury conjunction in Sagittarius: It’s a day for thinking big, having an overly-active or overly-reactive mind as the Sun’s amplifying energy aligns exactly with mental, talkative Mercury. Sagittarius is about seeing the big picture, but can also assert itself as a dogmatic know-it-all. Take a swift bike ride or run, pushing yourself, or take time engaged in a longer adventure which encompasses many miles. Write, read, dialogue, imagine, enJOY, another quality that Sagittarius calls forth in us.
Venus in Scorpio trine Chiron in Pisces: This loving aspect tends to open our hearts to others as we become aware of their suffering or struggle or share our own vulnerability. It’s a great day to visit a healing spa or lounge and rest by water.
Moon/Ceres conjunction in Aquarius: With this late night aspect, you might reach out to a friend, check in with your Mom, if you are fortunate to still have one, or prepare your home for upcoming visitors.
Sun December 20
Vesta in Leo opposite Neptune/Moon conjunction in astronomical Aquarius: For those who are so inclined, this collaborative and celebratory aspect is excellent to gather in community in ceremony, including on-line or in long-distance prayer circles, to release 2020 and attune to the sacred turning point of Winter Solstice — the celestial New Year — which takes place very early tomorrow morning. Align your personal heart with the collective heart of humanity and feel our unity even amidst our solitude. This beautiful alignment is superb for art-making, and special creative time with children.

First Quarter Moon
At the First Quarter Moon, you are called to action. The need to move forward with your recent insights can come via conscious choice or by challenging circumstances that require you make a move.
Mon December 21 ~ Winter Solstice
Winter Solstice ~ 3:02 am MST: This is the non-denominational HolyDay I am fond of celebrating. It is always a turning point and a turning around in the cycles of night and day, shadow and light for our Northern Hemisphere. It marks the celestial beginning the New Year. It is a day to reflect on the previous year, but mostly to plant seeds for the upcoming year. This year’s fortuitous action-packed chart for Winter Solstice is also considered to be, by some astrologers, the symbolic chart for all of 2021. Blessings to all you.
The Great Jupiter/Saturn Conjunction in sidereal Capricorn: The important Jupiter/Saturn conjunction which always launches a new 20-year cycle for social change is complete today and we enter a new double-decade upgrade which requires all of our participation. This cycle takes place in sidereal Capricorn so the focus will be on reshaping, revitalizing, transforming all our collective institutions, governmental agencies, organizations and businesses from the foundations up. This 2020 conjunction is even more exceptional and rare as Jupiter and Saturn will only be separated by one-tenth of a degree (usually they are separated by a degree). This is why some are calling the Great Conjunction the “Christmas Star” but a better name would be the Winter Solstice Star.
First Quarter Moon: Moon/Chiron in Pisces square Sun/Mercury in Sagittarius: This dynamic energetic requires we need to make conscious, deliberate choices toward future goals and dreams, sometimes out of tension and necessity, or because you are bored with the past and seek new adventures — Sagittarius. The Moon/Chiron conjunction in sidereal Pisces is associated with both suffering — there is plenty of that happening — and also with compassion and spiritual growth. The conjunction of Sun/Mercury in Sagittarius is the power of your higher mind and imagination to dream new solutions into being that will help alleviate the suffering we see all around us or that we are ready to stop generating in our personal lives. Time to awaken to our inner powers of creativity at a whole new level. Time to roll up our sleeves and get to work with enthusiasm, compassion and more energy than we may have had in 2020. Onward!
Tue December 22
Venus in Scorpio square Ceres in Aquarius: The tension of this square leads to working through a conflict or working toward envisioning a new way of viewing a challenge. It helps us get to the bottom of what’s going on as we further investigate a topic or situation. You may help a friend in crisis or ask for help yourself.
Wed December 23
Mars in Pisces square Pluto in Sagittarius: Both Mars and Pluto govern the attributes of willfulness, will power, power struggles, warfare. Today marks the third time and final time Mars has squared Pluto this past year. This explosive aspect mirrored much of our collective drama, conflict, and combativeness of 2020. I breathe a sigh of relief with this completion as our world is still mostly intact at years’ end.
Moon/Mars conjunction in Pisces: When Moon (our emotions) makes it’s monthly conjunction with Mars (expressing our truth, needing to act) one can feel emotionally volatile. When they unite in Pisces, addictive behaviors can be triggered or the powerful feelings of crying, grieving, feeling at a loss can consume you. Being by water or immersed in water can help or reach out to someone to shed tears and support one another.
Thu December 24
Moon/Uranus conjunction in sidereal Aries: Allow for more spontaneity, less planning, living more in the moment. If you are traveling, this aspect can lead to a sudden change of plans so think on your feet if challenges arise or you are intuitively guided to change your trajectory.
Fri December 25
Mars re-enters sidereal Aries: Because Mars is a planet linked to our physicality, our blood, our passions, I have noticed people respond to a shift involving Mars in very visceral ways immediately. Mars will leave Pisces and launch into Aries in the early evening hours so moods can shift suddenly, either toward outbursts and fighting or passion and play. This also marks the completion of the shadow period of the recent Mars retrograde that started in late July, another welcomed finale.
Moon in Aries sextile Neptune in Aquarius: This is a festive sextile, nice to feel its influence on Christmas day. The Aries Moon encourages you to be in the moment, not too much planning, just being and exploring.
Sat December 26
Moon in Taurus trine Jupiter/Saturn in Capricorn opposite Juno in Scorpio: This trine is earthy and productive, great for cooking, giving back rubs to beloveds, slowing down and enjoying life. Capricorn governs our elders so be sure to heap your love and support on them. If for any reason you do have to work, expect to have an easy time of it, much being accomplished.
Sun December 27
Sun in Sagittarius trine Uranus in Aries: This annual trine sparks inventiveness and the confidence to take a risk. Nice. Enjoy its enthusiastic and optimistic energy.
Moon in Taurus opposite Venus in Scorpio: This highly sensual aspect increases a desire for shared intimacy for some. Emotionally, there can be a tension between one partner wanting to delve into an issue and communicate while the other wants to keep it simple and just feel, no words needed. It’s good for focusing on financial and business aspects of your life if that is required.
Mon December 28
Moon/North Lunar Node conjunction in Taurus: Feel emotionally sure-footed to move forward with a plan or decision with this future-oriented alignment. Taurus governs money, self-worth and self-care, and running a business so those are areas that might need attention today.
“Determination” painting by Kathryn Mapes Turner
Full Moon in sidereal Gemini/Sagittarius
The Full Moon is the birth point of the current SolLunar Cycle. This can be a time of celebration or crisis, depending on your life circumstance. Feel the joy and relax into new discoveries and directions.
Tue December 29
Full Moon in astronomical Gemini/Sagittarius: Sun in Sagittarius opposite Moon in Gemini square Chiron in Pisces: A Full Moon can bring fruition and good fortune to your life or amplify underlying stresses, bringing situations to a head. Sagittarius and Gemini govern politics, journalism, travel, communication, mind and higher Mind, mentoring, salesmanship. These signs can also cause giant mood swings. The square to healing Chiron in spiritual Pisces supports honoring your feelings about a situation as much as your mental analysis, possible creating a crisis of confidence or a profound healing process with another.
Wed December 30
Moon in Gemini opposite Mercury in Sagittarius: This talkative aspect makes for a busy day of non-stop communications via all mediums for connecting. It is excellent for full-on multitasking if that is required of you.
Thu December 31 ~ Bye Bye 2020
Moon in Cancer opposite Saturn/Jupiter in Capricorn square Mars in Aries: Frustrations can build at home or work with this tense square as we thankfully close out the calendar year of 2020. It can be a productive tension if you need to get things done, but beware of moving so quickly that an accident happens — the influence of Mars in Aries.
Venus/South Lunar Node conjunction in Scorpio: This is yet another profound completion transit of to the South Lunar Node which always involves a release the past. How timely for New Year’s Eve! Venus in Scorpio can be very attached in areas of love or wanting to control a beloved and have an extremely hard time of letting go. Honor your own depths of desires you want to co-create with the supportive universe in 2021 and beyond via a ceremony or meditation.
Fri January 1 ~ Welcome 2021
Moon in Cancer sextile North Lunar Node trine Venus/South Lunar Node in Scorpio: Similar to yesterday’s energetic, the Cancer Moon helps us review our history and where we have been and simultaneously encourages us to embrace the gifts and skills we have acquired as we step forward into a future self — the North Lunar Node.
Sat January 2
Sun in Sagittarius sextile Ceres in Aquarius: This loving, socially-minded sextile says take a trip or adventure with friends, and gather in shared community activities. It brings sunshine and support to all your relations.
Moon in Leo trine Mars in Aries: This exploratory aspect brings out your joy, inner child, playful competitiveness.
Sun January 3
Juno in Scorpio trine Chiron in Pisces: This longer-range supportive trine brings caring and support via your relationships, encouraging some to take the next step. It calls forth greater emotional honesty.
Moon in Leo trine Sun in Sagittarius: Make time for fun, recreation, art-making under this enthusiastic trine.
Mon January 4
Moon/Vesta in Leo opposite Neptune in Aquarius: Vesta is the asteroid of focus, dedication to a cause. When it meets up with the emotive Moon in Leo, exuberant feelings can be shared, art erupts everywhere, people are speaking their heart’s truth with friends and within their circles of community. It is also explosive in nature so beware of the element of fire.
Tue January 5
A Yod: Moon in Virgo, Juno in Scorpio, Uranus in Aries: The aspect of a Yod in astrology looks like an arrow pointing in a new direction. Yod’s create a unique kind of pressure within us, calling forth unlived desires. This Yod encourages you to take risks in your partnerships, go deeper into discovering what lies beneath the surface of your life, and to heal unhealed wounds that are now exposed.
“Winter Morning” painting by Kathryn Mapes Turner
Last Quarter Moon
With the Last Quarter Moon, you release what has been and simultaneously prepare for what will be as new desires perpetually arise in the next SolLunar Cycle.
Wed January 6
Last Quarter Moon: Moon in Virgo square Sun in Sagittarius: The energy today is focused and determined as the hard-working, discerning Moon in Virgo makes a turning point square to the visionary Sagittarius Sun, bringing truth to the forefront and important completions.
Moon in Virgo square Pluto in Sagittarius: This aspect happens in the evening and can bring on a sudden emotional intensity or physical purging.
Thu January 7
Moon in Libra opposite Mars/Uranus in Aries square Jupiter/Saturn in Capricorn: Building on the potential decisions or turning points of yesterday, this aggravated volatile aspect can lead to conflicts coming to a head, lawsuits being filed, explosive communications. Tread lightly and be cautious so accidents don’t ensue.
Fri January 8
Sun in Sagittarius sextile Neptune in Aquarius: It’s nice to have this gentler aspect follow the energetics of the two previous days. Make time for your free-roaming imagination to dream, spiritual contemplations and activities, practicing your art, all part of Neptune’s domain. Collaborate with others on how to support your community’s needs.
Sat January 9
Moon/Juno conjunction in Scorpio quincunx Mars/Uranus in Aries: The underlying tension with this aspect is between freedom or control, intimacy or independence within your personal and professional relationships. Express what your needs are while also considering your partner’s desires.
Sun January 10
Moon/South Lunar Node in Scorpio square Neptune in Aquarius: The Moon now returns to the South Node where it was at the beginning of this intense Solar Eclipse SolLunar Cycle, marking important completions or the last residual effort to hold on to something that is already dead. The square to Neptune can reveal delusional thinking or help you envision life after recent endings and completions.
Mon January 11
Moon/Venus conjunction in Sagittarius: The uplifting quality of this beautiful celestial moment, visible at dawn, merges your emotional needs and desires with your higher truth. This helps you steer clear of living a compromised life and shines light on what is possible, a fitting completion to this Cycle.
Blessed New Moon tomorrow~
