“Window of Opportunity” painting by Adam Paul Seagram
What a dynamic beginning we just traversed in January 2020 with the launch of the new 34-year Saturn/Pluto cycle and the beginnings of the new 20-year Jupiter/Saturn cycle, building all year, but not exact until December 21, 2020. Both cycles and other key astrological events are extremely expansive and about to transform the world dramatically. Everything is shifting, everything is up for necessary reinvention, if not a complete remodel from the foundation up. The world, and many of us, are becoming more mobile, moving, moving on, moving around which includes our home situations. We are creating new ways of living in community such as co-housing or building tiny homes which can also help the growing homeless populations, or traveling more in our vans to see new lands, or renting homes in faraway lands so we can meet others different from ourselves. Institutions, organizations and businesses are inventing exciting ways to collaborate and connect, less isolated in their missions, more united in their common causes.
These themes are all highlighted under our New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Capricorn. This month, give some consideration to the kind of society and natural world you want to live in, be part of, and take steps toward those dreams. Move to a new location this year more compatible with what you want now, start a new organization or business, participate in a current group that is implementing the goals you deem important.
Onward we go as sacred travelers on a joyful journey together, loving, celebrating and improving our world.
Also during this four week period, Mercury will turn retrograde for the first of its three cycles in 2020. The whole event unfolds like this: The opening, shadow period begins on February 2–where you got some clues about what this is about for you. Mercury turns retrograde on February 16–the phase where you make the shifts you are going to make, release and re-envision the old, get ready for the new. Then Mercury turns direct on March 9–on a Full Moon and you begin to implement the next steps. The transit completes on March 29–the final integration phase and you are on your way. Read more about its influence in the post for February 16.

Readings and Sidereal Mentoring
My posts are based on the sidereal astronomical alignments. As you work with and within the natural flow of time and the supportive cosmic energies that each unique SolLunar Cycle brings, life flows with more ease, grace and understanding.
I highly encourage serious astrology students to subscribe to Nick Anthony Fiorenza’s monthly Lunar Planner. Nick is the expert and his website is a treasure trove of historical and current information and insights.
Thanks for considering a sidereal mini-reading with me for $44 or a longer reading for $88, the numbers of living your Mastery on Earth. In these short readings, I discuss key personal transits that are happening for you in 2020 and beyond. I am excited to be mentoring students individually or in groups/workshops who want to learn more about how to work with sidereal astrology in their own chart or with their clients. Send me an email if you are interested in those options, or a full Natal Map or Update. Thank you!

New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Capricorn
“Path of Opening” painting by Adam Paol Seagram
Here is a brief synopsis of the New Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from his LunarPlanner:
“Beginning the Sprouting Phase of the Lunar Cycle, a new theme emerges, a new idea or concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen.”
Fri January 24
New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Capricorn: Did you feel the accelerated momentum that the last cycle in fiery Sagittarius escorted into our world as the opening act of 2020? Quite a shock to the system how quickly new goals emerged, signaling much movement, moving on, even moving in an accelerated fashion. This New SolLunar in sidereal Capricorn is still in a tight square to rebellious, shocking Uranus, so there are sure to be more surprises and breakthroughs in the coming month. Capricorn’s earthy, grounding influence can help us get organized and focused on professional goals or help us unite with others to initiate projects that will create lasting structural societal change. Capricorn also governs our parental roles and the caregiving of our elders, so changes in those relationships might be up in the coming four weeks. Give some consideration this month to the kind of society you want to live in, be part of, and take steps toward those dreams. Move to a new location this year, start a new organization or business, participate in a current group that is implementing the goals you deem important.
Mercury in Capricorn square Vesta in Aries: This aspect helps us reorient our thoughts with laser focus on where we are going next and it is especially good for problem solving.
Sat January 25
Moon/Mercury conjunction in Capricorn sextile Mars in Scorpio: Animated speech and a busy mind are part of today’s alignment. It’s excellent for activism. Some of you might directly confront someone who’s trying to bully or control you or you may be asked to stop those behaviors yourself.
Sun January 26
Venus/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius square Mars in Scorpio: Usually the annual Venus/Neptune conjunction is a love portal of compassion and inspiration, as it is today. BUT the tense square to power-driven Mars in Scorpio brings an edginess and confrontational energy sparking the need to take direct actions based on one’s values and spiritual principles. With this wondrous gift, receive the inspiration and take at least one concrete step to make it happen.
Mon January 27 – Tue January 28
Moon/Venus/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius square Mars in Scorpio: Today’s addition of the community-minded, futuristic Moon in Aquarius amplifies yesterday’s aspect and helps your further connect with important colleagues and relationships. Here’s a repost of what I wrote yesterday: Usually the annual Venus/Neptune conjunction is a love portal of compassion and inspiration, as it is today. BUT the tense square to power-driven Mars in Scorpio brings an edginess and confrontational energy sparking the need to take direct actions based on one’s values and spiritual principles. With this wondrous gift, receive the inspiration and take at least one concrete step to make it happen.
Wed January 29
Mercury in Capricorn trine Juno in Virgo: This practical, organized dynamic makes for smooth sailing in relationships and leads to effective communication and great productivity. Ask someone to help you if it will make your life easier, or offer support to another.
Moon/Chiron conjunction in Pisces: This monthly aspect enhances feelings of openness, vulnerability, and compassion. You might encounter someone who just wants you to listen to what is ailing them, or you may reach out and share your own grief or feeling of being lost.
Thu January 30
Moon in Pisces square Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Sagittarius opposite Juno in Virgo: As the Moon squares various planets, reactions can be triggered or you feel pressured to take some form of action. The ferocity and fury of the newly-hatched Saturn/Pluto 34- year cycle is the overriding background influencing us daily right now. It’s hard to feel relaxed. But the Moon in Pisces can remind us we need daily practices to calm the nervous system so we don’t explode. It is emotional, compassionate, and also at times wants to hide from the suffering of the world via addictions or just taking a nap for a few hours.
Fri January 31
Saturn enters sidereal Capricorn: Saturn now enters its natural home of Capricorn for the next couple of years. That’s good news in that it greatly helps us reorganize society in all ways for the greater good. Yet some will utilize this transit to try to keep the old order in control, taking further steps to grab power from the people. This transit helps you stay focused and committed in making your goals become realities. Keep going!
Moon/Uranus conjunction in Aries: This monthly shock to the system wakes us up suddenly to new possibilities. It lacks patience and wants to leap NOW. For some, that’s the right choice. For others, ride this wave of new desires, and keep breathing, being patient as all unfolds in right timing.
Mercury enters sidereal Aquarius: This annual transit awakens the mind to creative ideas coming from the future. It is extraordinarily inventive, tends to be more accepting and less judgmental, and encourages us to reach out to our communities and launch new collaborations that benefit all.
First Quarter Moon
“Portals of Opening” painting by Adam Paol Seagram
Here’s a brief synopsis of the First Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from his Lunar Planner:
“The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps. Trust in the process. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. Simply, this phase is a time to work.”
Sat February 1 – Sun February 2
First Quarter Moon: Moon/Vesta in Aries square Sun in Capricorn: This phase of the SolLunar Cycle always nudges or thrusts us into taking action. The Moon in Aries is spontaneous, a risk-taker, or impatient. The influence of Vesta helps us stay focused once we know what we want to focus on, which is Capricorn’s domain. Capricorn is organized, ambitious, driven to succeed. These two days are excellent for outdoor adventures, initiating new projects, and balancing work and play in your life.
On Saturday, February 1, we celebrate Imbolc, marking the holy day in which the rising sun is halfway to Spring Equinox from its deepest descent at Winter Solstice. This is always a day for celebration and ceremony in my opinion!
Mon February 3
Sun in Capricorn semisextile Jupiter in Sagittarius: This fleeting aspect brings optimism and excitement today, like feeling the giddiness and possibility of that first hint of spring that is conveyed in animated bird song.
Moon in Taurus trine Ceres in Capricorn square Mercury in Aquarius: The brilliance of new ideas taking place under the current transit of Mercury through sidereal Aquarius can take shape and form today with the grounding Moon in Taurus, including discussions of how to finance the ideas, collaborations, or home/real estate project.
Tue February 4
Moon in Taurus opposite Mars in Scorpio trine Sun in Capricorn: If you need to, use this day to focus on finances and budgets. It’s also excellent for discarding and recycling what needs to go so you create cleaner, clearer spaces and fields of intention which will make everything flow more easier in your life. Apply this aspect to editing a poem or book or other creative projects.
Wed February 5 – Thu February 6
Sun in Capricorn square Vesta in Aries: Vesta’s influence helps us focus with pinpointed accuracy, like the archer hitting the bullseye. The ambitions Sun in Capricorn sees both the big picture but also has the keen eye for detail. This combo can be highly efficient and effective in accomplish goals and launching initiatives, meaning, initiate something, even a small new habit.
Moon in Gemini square Venus in Pisces: This poses an interesting dynamic. The Moon in Gemini likes to talk and analyzes feeling while Venus in Pisces listens and feels feelings. If you are in therapy, much clarity will come to light today. Or be your own therapist as you write in your journal and sit quietly listening to your heart’s desires so you will know what to do next.
Moon in Gemini conjunction North Lunar Node opposite Pallas Athene/South Lunar Node/Jupiter in Sagittarius: These two days are great for intellectual pursuits, strategic planning, writing, multitasking, plowing through emails/communications, clearing your mind’s clutter, reading and study. The influence of the Lunar Nodes means you are completing the past, editing old ideas or designs to make them better or more appropriate to now.
Fri February 7
Ceres in Capricorn square Uranus in Aries: This rare aspect launches new initiatives relating to Ceres’s issues: health care, environmental and food concerns, and programs to benefit women, children, animals. Continue to make your valued contributions in time and resources with renewed enthusiasm as you see fit as the world needs all of our support and participation.
Pallas Athene/South Lunar Node conjunction in Sagittarius: This rare strategic, visionary passage brings to completion past projects but can also launch new projects that seek to correct past injustices or issues.
Moon in Cancer opposite Saturn/Ceres in Capricorn: This can be a stay-at-home Friday with the homebody Cancer Moon opposing organized Saturn and nurturing Ceres. Cook an exceptionally beautiful meal. Parents and children might squabble briefly over tasks or chores but in general, this dynamic makes for a lovely family night.
Full Moon in sidereal Cancer/Capricorn
Here is a brief synopsis of the Full Moon characteristics from my friend and sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from his Lunar Planner:
“The Full Moon marks the point of coition in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement, a time of celebration. The day just after the Full Moon is a time for the realization of the theme to emerge, culminating in the enthusiasm of the Full Moon. Relax and allow this realization to occur. There is no need to force it as it surfaces on its own.”
Sat February 8
Full Moon in sidereal Cancer/Capricorn: It’s another good night for entertaining at home or hanging with the family. Full Moon happens near midnight tonight and into early tomorrow morning. Some of you might stay up late (ordering new gifts for your home or researching real estate possibilities) or be awake through much of the night. With the Cancer Moon, our personal home situations are highlighted. Do we have what we want regarding home or do things need to change, both in location or in the ways we are relating with our family members? Questions like these may bubble up over the next few days.
Mars enter Sagittarius: This feels like a welcome relief as combative and confrontational Mars leaves deep-digging Scorpio and enters visionary, athletic, educational Sagittarius. This shift creates heat in the world (fires, volcanic eruptions) or in the body (inflammation). You can get more motivated to make the changes you want to see in the world and your world during the course of this transit.
Sun February 9
Venus/Chiron conjunction in Pisces: This annual alignment (it is a two day event) is a healing sacred portal as loving and ethical Venus aligns with healing Chiron in compassionate Pisces. Some will grieve recent or ancient losses deeply, inexplicably, like a steady rain pouring for hours. Some might adopt a child or pet in need, making an outsider feel welcome in a caring home. Volunteer time at a shelter. The main gift of this moment is to allow your feelings to take center stage, experience, don’t analyze the feelings and learn what they are helping you to heal. Spending time near or in all forms of water will help.
Mercury in Aquarius sextile Pallas Athene in Sagittarius: This swift aspect is excellent for collaborative planning the next step of current projects and partnerships.
Mon February 10
Moon in Leo opposite Mercury in Aquarius: This playful and communicative aspect brings a delightful lightness to our world. Spend time with children, engage with your inner child, reach out for a play date with someone who intrigues you.
Tue February 11
Moon in Virgo opposite Venus/Chiron conjunction in Pisces: As the previous two days may have opened up a feeling of vulnerability or sensitivity that has left you concerned about what’s next, today’s helpful Virgo Moon helps you create healthy boundaries or research solutions that will make you feel more stable and safe as you go forward with new plans.
Wed February 12
Moon/Juno conjunction in Virgo square Jupiter in Sagittairus: Partnerships can break apart or expand under this pressured portal of change and expansiveness.
Thu February 13
Moon in Libra square Saturn in Capricorn: There might be momentary tension in personal relationships or professional partnerships that can lead to constructive solutions if you stay with the process and don’t run away. Speak the truth with respectful clarity.
Fri February 14
Sun enters sidereal Aquarius: Lightness and clarity emerge in our planetary field as our illuminating Sun enters futuristic, not-attached, loving-kindness, Aquarius. Use the month ahead to revision your life and goals and relationships especially regarding the communities you want to be part of in this coming decade. Moving, moving on and moving around are big in 2020!
Moon in Libra trine Mercury in Aquarius: Be sure to make time for friends and celebration with this gracious and social portal of harmony.
Last Quarter Moon
“Path of Illumination” painting by Adam Paol Seagram
Here is a brief synopsis of the Last Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend and sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza from his Lunar Planner:
“This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.”
Sat February 15
Last Quarter Moon: Moon in Scorpio square Sun in Aquarius: The Last Quarter Moon helps us wind up the past as we begin to look ahead to what’s next. You might make a down payment on an upcoming purchase or spend time figuring out how to finance or find support for an endeavor. Some might experience a tension in relationships between wanting to control a situation or choosing to be more open and in the flow, trusting what will be, will surely be.
Sun February 16
Mercury in Aquarius turns retrograde: Now we enter the first of three Mercury retrograde cycles for 2020. The whole event unfolds like this: The opening, shadow period began on February 2–where you got some clues about what this is about for you. Today, Mercury turns retrograde–the phase where you make the shifts you are going to make, release and re-envision the old, get ready for the new. Then Mercury turns direct on March 9–on a Full Moon, and you begin to implement the next steps. The entire transit completes by March 29–the finale of integration and you are on your way. The energy of Aquarius brings fresh air, futuristic ideas and inspired creativity to our minds as it calls for the inventions of the future. Work with this transit as a time of reinvention for a new phase in your life, using the power of your uplifted, clear and focused mind to see it, and make it so.
Moon in Scorpio square Mercury in Aquarius: This awkward square can lead to misunderstandings between people. Mercury in Aquarius speaks in a detached, off-the-cuff manner with no concern about what other people think. Moon in Scorpio, conjunct the intense star of Antares, sees all kinds of motivations and reasons behind the words and can have more political motivations, caring what people think. The key is say what’s in your heart so you don’t hold onto a grudge or misinterpret what’s really going on.
Mon February 17 – Tue February 18
Moon/Mars conjunction in Sagittarius: This monthly pairing is rarely easy in that it is prickly and edgy in some way. Use that intensity not to create self-inflicted wounds or lead attacks on others, but to harness your energy and passion in constructive ways.
Moon/South Lunar Node conjunction in Sagittarius: This monthly union always helps us release the past, but the current influence of Sagittarius brings an uplifting quality to the letting go process so we feel enthusiastic about what the future holds. You might connect with people from your past and plan a future adventure.
Wed February 19
Mercury retrograde in Aquarius sextile Pallas Athene in Sagittarius: This is mentally creative aspect is excellent for planning, strategizing, designing, redesigning, or thinking through a current project as it’s beginning to take shape.
Thu February 20
Jupiter in Sagittarius sextile Neptune in Aquarius: This rare exciting sextile between the planet of expansive optimism (Jupiter) and imagination and spiritual awakening (Neptune) is sparking uplifting collaborations throughout all arenas of society. This two-part transit completes in mid-October. It is an ongoing background influence you can always tap into when you are weary or need to keep the faith.
Moon/Saturn conjunction in Capricorn: This no-nonsense, serious aspect can accomplish much even while you might feel a temporary emotional heaviness. You might need to pay extra attention to an elder, helping with their care or errands. Parents might feel more stern as they guide their children to make better choices.
Fri February 21
Mars in Sagittarius trine Uranus in Aries: This rare trine between action-oriented Mars and revolutionary Uranus creates tremendous energy to experiment and be bold in executing one’s goals. The fire signs encourage us to take a leap of faith or lighten our loads both physically and emotionally so we can move more freely through the world as sacred travelers on a joyful journey.
Moon/Ceres conjunction in Capricorn: Nurturing an elder or being mentored by a wisdom teacher happens today. You might decide to serve the needs of your community in a new role. It is also great for organizing work and home spaces.
Sat February 22
Moon/Sun in Aquarius: On this last day of our current SolLunar Cycle, use the morning hours of the Moon in Capricorn for productivity and work if need be, then the afternoon/evening to rest and relax (always a good idea on the last day of a SolLunar Cycle) in the shared joy of community and friends, Aquarius’s gift.
Blessed New Moon tomorrow!
