New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Gemini
“Teton Mother” by Diana Walter
The solid, ancient granite of the Grand Tetons is in the throes of an internal cracking that has triggered emergency closures in Grand Teton National Park at Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point, the busiest tourist attraction in the Park. This currently unexplainable and completely out-of-the-blue calamity is disconcerting to say the least. For me, it is an Earth Oracle and it makes me wonder what other unseen fissures are about to erupt around the globe with the ongoing Mars retrograde in Capricorn as our next SolLunar Cycle begins. (Please see my notes about Mars retrograde at the end of this post.)
This entire SolLunar Cycle (which begins in sidereal Gemini but quickly shifts to Cancer) compounds the rising tensions in our world as this New Moon is linked to transformational (but also power-hungry) Pluto by a polarizing opposition. Things feel like they are churning, bubbling below, about to erupt or break off at any moment with a (orange) hair-trigger volatility. Find ways to keep calm and cool personally and utilize the over-flowing blessings of the love-producing transits involving Venus and Ceres, also at work in our planetary field, to envision/pray/intend that peace prevails, truth comes out.
Thank you, cosmic, Earth sister, Diana Walter, for the use of your paintings for this post. Since our days in the 1980’s with our traveling troupe, Headwaters Performing Arts Consortium, where we brought the arts to the Interpretive Division of Yellowstone National Park, or creating Earth ceremonies at Harmonic Convergence, you’ve been an inspiration to me in your leadership and creative output. Check out Diana’s many talents at Open Sky 111.

I will discuss where last year’s historic Total Solar Eclipse is still taking place in your chart, along with other personal transits for 2018. You will get a whole lot of information. I also mentor students individually and in groups who want to learn more about how to work with sidereal astrology in their own chart or with their clients. Send me an email if you are interested in those options, or a full Natal Map or Update. Thank you!
I post twice a month, on the New Moon (which includes the two weeks of New Moon and First Quarter Moon) and on the Full Moon (which includes the two weeks of Full Moon and Last Quarter Moon). As you work with and within the natural flow of time and supportive cosmic energies of each unique SolLunar Cycle, life will flow with more ease and grace. My interpretations and predictions are based on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Gemini
“Spring Morning in the Lamar Valley” by Diana Walter
Here is a list of New Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from LunarPlanner:
“Beginning the Sprouting Phase of the Lunar Cycle, a new theme emerges, a new idea or concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. Often this process is one of discovery, slowly revealing a simple theme over a day or two, or it may be quite clear and specific, even suggesting a major life change. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen.”
Thu July 12
New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Gemini: Sun/Moon in Gemini opposite Pluto in Sagittarius: This New Moon begins in the latter part of sidereal Gemini then quickly shifts to Cancer in the coming days. This part of Gemini rules diplomacy, politics, media, commerce, and our communication systems, both large and small. When a New Moon is so tightly linked to Pluto, the planet of deep-cleansing, soul-searching, death and rebirth, we can expect this SolLunar Cycle will be profoundly transformational in our personal lives and for all of planet Earth’s populations. Pluto also rules plutocrats, authoritarians, those who seek to have power over others, versus empower others. Power-grabs are possible, but will be countered with equal, if not greater, force by those who seek to share an equality of power.
When I first began my study of astrology decades ago, I discovered my own interpretation of Pluto that I didn’t find in astrology texts. I saw how it was the ruler of the biological processes of life on Earth. That means Pluto symbolizes the daily shedding of the old skin as well as the perpetual upwelling health of the new cells. This is happening every second of every day for everyone and for all forms of life, including the life systems of Gaia, planet Earth. Learn to work more consciously with this miraculous yet natural unavoidable life-force that always has your greater vitality in mind. This isn’t easy to embrace the fragility and never-ending process of seeding, flowering, blossoming, then shriveling and shedding the old form of last season’s creativity. Life involves tragic loss and joyful births ~ Pluto’s teaching. You will be given opportunities to work more deeply with this truth during this SolLunar Cycle.
Fri July 13
Moon/Pallas Athene/North Lunar Node conjunction in Cancer opposite Mars/South Lunar Node in Capricorn: This confluence of planetary energies supports planning ahead for family events, changes in your home/homelife and reconnecting with people from your past that might play an important role in your future. It keeps your mind and emotions very busy imagining new options for life plans or about or how to resolve an old conflict.
Venus in Leo trine Saturn in Sagittarius: This positive aspect links up Venus (our planet of heart-based goals, love, artistic impulses, appreciation of beauty, personal finances) with committed, focused Saturn. Align and focus your daily actions/purchases/investments with what you ethically value and watch how your abundance on all levels slowly but surely improves with these incremental changes.
Sat July 14
Juno in Aries square the Lunar Nodes: Your personal and professional relationships round a corner today in terms of focusing in a new direction and seeing more clearly what’s next. It sets the stage for getting out of past contracts and beginning the work on new alignments going forward. As Juno rules marriage and our soul-level colleagues, it’s a great day to make plans with your beloved about what’s next.
Moon/Mercury conjunction in Cancer: This chatty combo in private Cancer is good for exploring secretive matters with those close to you. The opposition to Mars retrograde can aggravate underlying tensions in close-quarter relationships or places, like airplanes or hospitals.
Sun July 15
Moon/Venus/Ceres conjunction in Leo: It’s time again for the miraculously beautiful and uplifting Moon/Venus conjunction and this time it’s even more powerful in its forcefield as it teams up with nurturing Ceres near Regulus, the royal star of heart integrity. This is a potent planetary moment to keep your sights focused on calling forth honesty, caring and compassion for all. If need be, ask for your own heart-healing in these times of great loss and grief. It is a vulnerable and tender time, despite all the other negative dimensions of current events, and there is great potential for people’s hearts to open and heal.
Pallas Athene in Cancer square Uranus in Aries: If you set clear intentions about what you are seeking to create, former plans might suddenly change or clarity about a new path forward appears out of the blue. Beware of home accidents, like spilling paint for a cooking mishap.
Mon July 16
Venus/Ceres conjunction in Leo: This timely alignment bodes well for organizing the actions of citizens towards causes of compassion and caring. Buy something extravagantly beautiful (not necessarily expensive) for the places you most like to inhabit, be that a bedroom, bathtub area, kitchen, creative space.
Juno in Aries square Mars in Capricorn: This aspect can definitely cause major tensions to erupt in key relationships, like business partnerships or within marriages. It is edgy and brings out fighting tendencies or the need to speak the raw truth. Work toward being honest with but not hostile toward others.
Moon in Leo opposite Neptune in Aquarius: This aspect adds playful creative energy to the planetary field. Moon in Leo seeks to lighten things up with teasing or laughter and Neptune in Aquarius reminds us we are all one human tribe with much in common, despite our differences of opinion. Great day to pursue your artistic impulses and where they lead, to a gallery, a movie, a show, a bustling cafe.
Tue July 17
Sun enters sidereal Cancer: As the Sun makes it’s annual passage through Cancer the Crab, issues of home, family, land, food supplies, tribalism, secrets exposed are all themes for the coming four weeks. Cancer rules our nests of security but can also ask us to examine the ways we are hiding or too stuck in unhealthy habits that lead to stagnation, even disease. Time to look at all these things with depth and caring, also aspects of Cancer.
Moon in Virgo opposite Chiron in Pisces square Saturn in Sagittarius: These three signs are called ‘mutable’, meaning it’s time to flow into new patterns while exiting old forms. This tense T-square calls up the desire for healthier habits or routines, overcoming the previous inertia or the sometimes slothfulness of Pisces.
Wed July 18
Virgo Moon: The monthly transit of the Moon through sidereal Virgo brings discernment, helps us make wise choices and set healthy boundaries. You may also feel a wave of criticalness directed toward yourself or judgment of another, also part of Virgo’s tone.
First Quarter Moon
“Oxbow Bend” by Diana Walter
Here’s a list of the First Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza ~ www.lunarplanner.com
“The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps to move forth on what you were inspired about…it is time to now participate in trust and knowing. Trust in the process. Demonstrate this trust in physical action and you will be supported. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. Simply, this phase is a time to work.”
Thu July 19
First Quarter Moon: Moon in Libra square Sun in Cancer: This tense aspect sets the stage for tomorrow’s historic 2nd conjunction of Mars retrograde with the South Lunar Node. Take actions today that help your relationships expand and grow in expansive directions. Or take the pruning clippers to what isn’t bearing fruit, redirecting that life force toward energizing new plans and dreams. Today and tomorrow are very action-oriented. Time to move forward or leap into action.
Fri July 20
Mars/South Lunar Node conjunction in sidereal Capricorn: Today marks the second hit of this challenging planetary aspect engulfing our planet. It is a world-wide aspect felt very personally by all, leading to increased frustration, anxiety, tensions all around. This middle transit to the South Lunar Node in Capricorn (ruler of institutions, businesses, societal norms) is sure to bring out more information about abuses of the past, shining the light on what is in dire need of reform. More Earth-shaking events are possible.
It’s challenging to find some positive words about this transit, but let me give it a go: Mars in it’s highest aspect is about the courage to take a stand based on your beliefs, values, what your most deeply want to protect. While in retrograde, you are examining internally what that means to you, encouraging you to live a life of integrity and a willingness to speak your truth when it comes time. The link to the South Lunar Node, tied to our past history, can be bring up the need to revisit what didn’t get said in the past with the hopes of making amends for one’s mistakes. No transits in astrology are ‘bad’. Some are just more challenging, and therefore, growth-producing, and serve us as giant wake-up calls to our own courage of heart. Read more about this extraordinarily important transit in my notes at the end of this post.
Moon/Jupiter conjunction in sidereal Libra: Look for this wondrous sight of a expanding Moon with 10-carat Jupiter in tonight’s sky. When these two hook up each month, emotional fireworks are possible, social events are more full-bodied and full-throated with enthusiasm. It can be hard to relax into a calm sleep.
Sat July 21
Pallas Athene/North Lunar Node in Cancer opposite Mars South Lunar Node in Capricorn: When a planetary energy aligns with the futuristic North Lunar Node, information comes to you about your next step. When it’s Pallas Athene, the Goddess of wisdom, creative intelligence and strategy, in intuitive Cancer, the insights might come to you in a more interior way, like in a dream, a strong gut-level hit, or a sense an ancestor from the spirit world is by your side as a helpful guide. Listen, listen, listen today.
Mercury in Cancer trine Vesta retrograde in Scorpio: Focus on family financial plans and budgets, or make changes to your longer range investments. Feng-shui your home, clearing out the old stagnant pockets of energetic dust-balls, making space visibly and invisibly for a fresh, clear vitality to enter your life.
Sun July 22
Moon in Scorpio square Venus/Ceres in Leo: Another good day to focus on financial matters and budgets. In relationships, tensions can arise between a partner who wants to keep it light or another one who wants to delve deeper. A good day, too, for a more exploratory type of adventure or play date.
Mon July 23
Moon/Vesta conjunction in Scorpio trine Mercury in Cancer: The Scorpio themes of joint finances or resources and deeper intimacy continue today, becoming more focused or obsessive with the help of Vesta. Communications are flowing well with added depth and concern.
Tue July 24
Venus in Leo opposite Neptune in Aquarius: I sense Venus loves to transit through Leo each year, where she is honored as the Queen and lover of all things beautiful. Today’s annual opposition to spiritual and artistic Neptune activates creative talents at a whole new level. Visionary works of art are being painted by many around the world. We can all partake of this uplifting portal to inspire a new wave of creativity within our own lives. We are humans. We are meant to be creative. We are designed to be creators. Claim that gift today.
Moon/Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius: You can feel more critical under Moon/Saturn, but the optimistic energy of Sagittarius can help you steer clear of doubt and stay focused solely on what you want to make happen. Harness that magical power of aiming your heartmind directives in the direction you want to go.
Wed July 25
Mercury in sidereal Cancer turns retrograde: Three times a year, Mercury turns retrograde in relationship to Earth for about three weeks. These are astrological periods that are good for introspection, hammering out details of a potential contract or life change, clearing out your inboxes of communications you let get over-full, overwhelming you, in the busyness of daily life. Read more. This cycle will last until August 18 and takes place in sidereal Cancer which indicates communications or business dealings might involve family members, with possible secrets revealed and addressed more openly. Take this time to deepen friendships and relationships, exploring plans of living together as you bridge lives with a potential beloved.
Sun in Cancer trine Chiron in Pisces: People naturally open up under this helpful trine and some are more willing to ask for help or lend a helping hand.
Thu July 26
Moon/Pluto conjunction in Sagittarius: Emotional or literal infernos are possible as the Moon makes its monthly trigger to the never-ending, only-intensifying Plutonian transformations of these times.
Sun in Cancer opposite Mars in Capricorn: This once-a-year polarizing opposition precedes and sets the stage for tomorrow’s extraordinary Full Moon Lunar Eclipse. This aspect might involve tensions in HOA’s or other professional organizations. Parents and children erupt in domineering stand offs and battles of the will. Oppositions also provide perspective on understanding someone else’s point of view but this one demands raw honesty if progress is to be made. Sleep may be challenged as you prepare for one of the most dynamic, volatile, explosive Full Moon Eclipses we’ve had since the Total Solar Eclipse of August 21, 2017 .

MARS RETROGRADE NOTES:
Mars in sidereal Capricorn turns retrograde: I’ve been alerting you to this aspect since early May when this aspect began on May 12. On June 26, Mars halts and heads backwards (from Earth’s perspective) until August 27, creating a volatile, perhaps challenging summer. It’s important to keep a cool head when surprising events arise.
It’s hard to find some positive words, but let me give it a go: Mars in it’s highest aspect is about the courage to take a stand based on your beliefs, values, what your most deeply want to protect.
Here are a few things I’ve already said, with some additions, about one of 2018’s most important astrological events:
Mars turns retrograde on June 26 until August 27 (however the ‘shadow’ period that defines the whole cycle runs form May 12 – October 8) catalyzing a tornadic portal of change and crisis for many and on the world stage. During the time of it’s retrograde, Mars will also be at perihelion (closest to the Earth) so it will literally and energetically be brighter, redder, bolder, more influential in our planetary field.
Mars turning retrograde implies it’s time to not push or be pushy, but be willing to take things more slowly and examine which direction you might ultimately want to go. Some of you might do a remodel of your space, but don’t be surprised or upset if there are delays in the construction process. Some of you will decide to close up shop for good.
This will be a time for many souls to choose to transition back to Spirit, which is already occurring.
Some of you will slow yourselves down physically by an injury or by choosing surgery during this time frame. Old health issues can heat up again (Mars rules inflammation) as symptoms reappear, forcing you to make the next round of changes, researching and opting for healthier choices and behaviors.
From the collective perspective, this promises to be a time of greater drama and revelation, and going to battle as Mars aligns in forceful Capricorn, ruler of our institutions, businesses and the military. As this Mars retrograde is aligned with the South Lunar Node during the entire cycle, much will be brought to light about past abuses of power on all levels, leading the way to institutional reform.
In addition, many weakened ailing infrastructures will give way, possibly leading to loss of life. We are long overdue in addressing this pressing problem. Time to fix what needs fixing.
Huge earth shifts and changes are possible as well, like the ancient granite rocks of the Grand Tetons suddenly and unexpectedly showing fissures and cracks. Earth Oracles abound. Pay attention!
