Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in sidereal Cancer/Capricorn
“Super Moon Rise” watercolor by Sue Cedarholm
Two weeks ago, our New SolLunar Cycle began in sidereal Sagittarius with the first dynamic Solar Eclipse of 2019 (here’s an Eclipse link to learn more about times and dates in your area). Eclipses happen because our Sun and Moon line up with the Lunar Nodes, points which symbolize our past selves and acquired wisdom (South Node) and our future selves and still-to-be-learned wisdom (North Node). Eclipses can provide an actual energetic severing from our past while opening doors for our future lives. In both of January’s Eclipses (New Moon on January 5 and Full Moon on January 20) the Sun is linked to the South Node which implies it is essential we integrate and appreciate all we have become, to honor what we have learned from the full range of our experience.
Now we will be immersed in a Total Lunar Eclipse on January 20, visible from all of North and South America. On that night, the Moon in sidereal Cancer aligns with the North Node, further weaving together our personal timelines/lifetimes in new configurations full of astounding possibilities. From a place of love and acceptance of our past, we stride into the future that is calling to us. What a wonderful way to begin 2019!
In addition this week, we will navigate the wondrous, uplifting Venus/Jupiter conjunction in sidereal Scorpio on January 22, and the edgy squares of Mars to Saturn (January 21) and Pluto (February 1). And blessed be, Imbolc or Candlemas on February 2 marks the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. For me, this day always marks the beginning of spring, at least in my mind!
I am so grateful to collaborate again with my friend, Sue Cedarholm. Thank you for allowing me to post your beautiful and evocative winter watercolors, perfect for this time of year. Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in sidereal Cancer/Capricorn
‘
“Full Moon” watercolor by Sue Cedarholm
Here is a brief synopsis of the Full Moon characteristics that hold true for every Full Moon from my from my friend and sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza at Lunar Planner.
“The Full Moon marks the point of coition in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement, a time of celebration. The day just after the Full Moon is a time for the realization of the theme to emerge, of what the activities of the first half of the lunar cycle, culminating into the enthusiasm of the Full Moon, are really about. Relax and allow this realization to occur. There is no need to force it as it surfaces on its own.”
Sun January 20
Total Lunar Eclipse: Sun/South Node in Capricorn, Moon/North Node in Cancer: A more dramatic way to describe a Total Lunar Eclipse is to call it a ‘Blood Moon’ which is made more orange by the shadow the Earth casts on the Moon, fully blocking the Sun’s light. We are fortunate this Eclipse will be visible from all of North and South America and take place at a decent hour, before midnight.
Astronomically, the Moon will be transiting sidereal Cancer as it aligns with the North Node, further weaving together our personal timelines/lifetimes in new configurations full of astounding possibilities. If you choose to work with this energy more consciously, this is an excellent time to set intentions, create a personal ceremony that bridges you from your past to your future, or just amplify your prayers of gratitude for all you have lived through and for what’s to come. From a place of love and acceptance of our past, we stride into the future that is calling to us. What a wonderful way to begin 2019!
Here are some additional insights about what Eclipses bring to our inner and outer worlds from my sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza : “Solar eclipses offer opportunity to redefine concepts of self and the roles we play in the world, or how we articulate ourselves in life, our persona. They are about shifting octaves in the nature of our self-perception and self-expression. They bring attention to what is important to us personally and subsequently to the decisions we make in our lives. They can invite a new beginning in life or impel a new way of participating in life. They impel us to make a fresh start in the area of our lives revealed by where they occur in a natal or relocated chart.
Lunar eclipses tend to be more palpable in nature, how we feel about, respond to and assimilate our life experience. They can be about releasing emotional bonds within ourselves that glue us to involvements that are less than we truly want or deserve. They are also about the emotional and experiential aspects of our relations with others and with the world in general. Lunar eclipses provide opportunity to redefine our conceptual understanding of our life experience.”
May your Total Lunar Eclipse experience be full of reverence and revelatory wonder.
Mon January 21
Mars in Pisces square Saturn in Sagittarius: Warning! This aspect is always edgy, producing edginess and anxiety. As planets, Mars and Saturn can feel militaristic, domineering, willful, controlling. This potent square can bring out the worst of these types of qualities in people OR pressure us to passionately claim what we want, what we know to be true, and to fight for what we hold dear. If you become too pushy without consciousness of the consequences your actions might have, accidents or fights are likely outcomes.
Mercury/South Node conjunction in Capricorn: An important message about something from your past may appear or you might complete a relationship obligation. It’s good for reviewing a contract or proposal for final corrections.
Water Grand Trine: Moon in Cancer/Mars in Pisces/Venus/Jupiter in Scorpio: This aspect supports easy emotional connections with others and brings an abundant flow of giving/receiving support. You may feel awash in gratitude for all the good things in your life, or make a point of giving thanks for the many blessings and great beauty that surround you. It can soften the edginess of the above aspect.
Tue January 22
Venus/Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio: If your routine is to get out early for exercise, walking the dog or spiritual communion, you’ve probably noticed our two brightest planets getting closer and closer in the dawn sky, today aligning exactly. Both Venus and Jupiter are considered ‘benefic’ planets, meaning they tend to bring blessings, positive and uplifting energy to our planetary field of possibility. This is a powerful prayer portal to ask for what you most desire and are ready to receive. It is a heavenly blessing occurring in the aftermath of the recent life-changing Solar and Lunar Eclipses.
Pallas Athene square Lunar Nodes: This rare square supports planning ahead and goal-setting.
Moon in Leo opposite Vesta in Aquarius: Leo encourages us to be more creative and playful and Aquarius seeks like-minded community. Today’s aspect links people together in creative projects and the opposition offers a wider view as all share their unique perspectives. Share your truth and listen to another’s point of view.
Wed January 23
Mercury in Capricorn sextile Ceres in Scorpio: Use this upbeat aspect for taking care of the logistics of running a home/business, tidying up bill paying systems, financial accounts. It is helpful for dealing positively with human resource or relationship issues.
Moon in Leo opposite Neptune in Aquarius: This is similar to yesterday’s aspect with an even stronger focus on imaginative, spiritually-motivated Neptune. Leo encourages us to be more creative and playful and Aquarius seeks like-minded community. Today’s aspect links people together in creative projects and offers a wider view as all share their unique perspectives.
Thu January 24
Moon in Virgo opposite Chiron in Pisces: Virgo and Pisces rule the healing professions and their natural inclination is to offer unconditional service and love to all, especially those who are suffering. If you are drawn to do so, it’s a good day to volunteer your time today helping humans and animals who are in need of what you have to graciously offer.
Fri January 25
Mars in Pisces trine Jupiter in Scorpio: This rare and positive trine brings activist Mars together with exuberant, optimistic Jupiter. Both planets are astronomically traversing the water signs of compassionate Pisces and deep-diving Scorpio. This geometry brings out emotional depths and honesty bringing healing waters to a thirsty world.
Moon in Virgo trine Sun in Capricorn: This waning trine of Moon to Sun helps us cosmically integrate the huge shifts we just experienced at the Total Lunar Eclipse in concrete, practical ways. The earth signs of Virgo and Capricorn seek demonstrable results, leading to productivity and success.
Sat January 26
Moon/Pallas Athene conjunction in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries: This alignment takes place in the later evening hours bringing a sudden shift in emotions or plans. It brings a creative bonanza of imagination and design ideas and might keep you up later than you had intended.
Last Quarter Moon
“Cold Moon” watercolor by Sue Cedarholm
Here is a description of the qualities of the Last Quarter Moon phase compliments of my friend and sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza at Lunar Planner:
“This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.”
Sun January 27 – Mon January 28
Moon in Libra square Mercury/Sun in Capricorn: Communications between parties might become stressful or take a sudden turn toward a new reality emerging. Squares are good for decision making or letting others know what you plan to do in the future, like giving notice to a landlord or boss you will be moving along.
Tue January 29
Sun/Mercury conjunction in Capricorn: This pin-pointed pairing sharpens our ability to stay very focused mentally and can make us extremely direct and clear in communicating our ideas. An excellent day for a professional presentation.
Moon/Ceres conjunction in Scorpio: With Ceres now transiting sidereal Scorpio, issues of power and control can arise to be aired in our caregiving responsibilities over the next few months especially in regards to children, parents, elders. Some might express a feeling of being smothered, manipulated, controlled when others just want to make sure everything is okay. Find healthy ways to keep the channels of communication always open. As the Moon makes its monthly trigger to Ceres today, offer emotional support or caregiving to someone who might be dealing challenging feelings, even depression. Seek out healing waters, in wild nature if possible.
Wed January 30
Moon/Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio: This monthly alignment always amplifies or exaggerates your underlying emotional reality be that positive or negative and intensifies in the late night hours. Steer clear of rabbit holes of darkness and use the power of its focus to find equanimity in the midst of drama or doubt.
Thu January 31
Saturn in Sagittarius sextile Neptune in Aquarius: This long-range aspect of all of 2019 concretizes uplifting values, futuristic trends and creative inventions into the mainstream culture. What has been considered ‘fringe’ becomes more acceptable to the awakening masses. I am always pleased when mainstream society finally shifts. Patience is required.
Moon/Venus conjunction in Sagittarius: Our lovely Moon is in its waning crescent in the predawn sky. Get outside early and view Venus nestled nearby. Both planets are conjunct the Galactic Heart Center, a place of higher wisdom beaming future visions to our Earth. May you receive your own original guidance and insight beneath this magical portal.
Fri February 1
Mars in Pisces square Pluto in Sagittarius: This extremely willful, tense square carries the potential for volcanic eruptions, literally and figuratively, in our world and within ourselves. It creates more inflammation in our bodies and temperaments. Boils come to head or emerge suddenly. Tread carefully.
Moon/Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius: This moody, serious, boundary-setting monthly alignment increases the hard-edged energies of today and can be fierce and forceful in expressing what needs to be said.
Sat February 2
Imbolc/Candlemas: We are at the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. Just like the sunlight lingering longer and brighter with each passing day, may you feel this renewing glow in your soul. For me, this day always marks the beginning of spring, at least in my mind!
Venus in Sagittarius trine Uranus in Aries: This positive geometry can bring surprising new love connections and encourages spontaneity. The energy of the fire signs of Sagittarius (be an explorer) and Aries (be a pioneer) ignites courage to try something new.
Moon/Pluto conjunction in Sagittarius: I dub this the ‘purging’ Moon each month as Pluto encourages elimination on all levels while also leading us to greater health, vitality, and finding ways to express the full power of who we are and what we know, releasing all notions of leading a diminished life.
Moon/South Node conjunction in Capricorn: This alignment influences the mood of the evening hours and can bring on ruminations about aspects of your past or dealing with challenging feelings in regards to your responsibilities. It can bring a temporary feeling of wanting to run away from it all, or, commit more deeply to those vows you made.
Sun February 3
Mercury in Capricorn sextile Jupiter in Scorpio: On this last day of this dynamic Eclipse SolLunar Cycle, it’s always good advice to rest and reflect on the happenings in your life over the past four weeks. This lovely sextile brings optimism and confidence and also helps you in planning your week ahead.
Happy New Moon tomorrow!
