Perhaps you heard the term “quantum entanglement” recently on NPR. It caught my attention. They were using it as a physics concept/mechanism to explain how praying for others might expedite their healing. It is the idea that we are energetically linked at the quantum level…cells of connection….atoms of attraction.
For some reason, I bristled at the term “entanglement” as I have always sensed this kind of connection with others as a given and have thought of it as a positive thing. But of course, the same kind of cellular linkages I believe in could be troubling. The word entanglement implies complicated and sometimes difficult connections with others, relationships that might be based more on our karma from past actions, codependency, a bit messy, like a frustrating tangled ball of yarn or garden hose.
I then thought of the phrase “Quantum Entwinement” as perhaps another way to define the concept. Twine, to interweave, to twist together. (I am aware this could imply twisted relationships!) Also,
similar to twin, one’s soul mate, similarities that unite us. A ball of twine that can, with ease, be used to tie things together. Perhaps, relationships of dharma, of our future selves. Such were my musings.
I have been acutely aware of the physicality of this kind of quantum connection this spring with the passing of my beloved dog of 15 years, Cola Bear, on March 30 2009. I experienced two days of relief, even joy, around her death—mainly for her, for her release from her tired-ole-bones. But since then, I am experiencing this quantum love that is beyond time and space and physical presence in which I was, and still am, in a new way, so deeply immersed, with a visceral ferocity of missing her that is almost unbearable at times. Quantum Connectivity describes this physicality of grief, the searing agony of a heart broken open. I feel like I am healing from literal open heart surgery. When a beloved dies, they are literally torn from our own bodies. No wonder grief is so painful.
I imagine many of you know what I am talking about, and my heart goes out to you.
I think this winter we have survived the release of our quantum entanglements. Now, these emerging energies for the rest of the year will initiate new quantum entwinements. Let me explain.
This winter’s astrological aspects foretold of some rough times. I’d like to review those before I speak of the more grace-filled transits that are coming. Keep in mind that the language of astrology
provides a helpful map that can articulate the shifts that are occurring at the global level as well as through the core shifts in our personal life.
On November 4 2008, the day of America elected Barack Obama, a new Saturn/Uranus opposition began. This is, on average, a once every 40 year event. Saturn (form, established structures, conservative, status quo) in opposition (tension, polarization, facing off) to Uranus (revolution, liberation, freedom, electrical, radical) can always be historically traced to times of great revolution and upheaval, even violence….witness 1968 when last this transit occurred.
Saturn also manifests as some form of limitation, so the austere nature of this economic downturn for most of the world presages an important about-to-begin green economic revolution. We had to let go of our old ideas, blow up our outdated institutions so they are now ready to be replaced with new structures that mirror our new values.
This has been a winter of paring down, of letting go, of conserving, of saving. We have been asked to examine every expenditure, be it in money, or in energy. Which foods have the most value for the money? Which relationships really nurture us and don’t drain us energetically? The point being, you may have had to let go of a lot this winter, either through conscious choice or by mysterious release. I believe the Great Mystery that this Universe is had your back in this, it just probably wasn’t all that easy.
I remember thinking last fall when I saw this transit forming like a dark blue grey approaching thunderstorm, “ I better stockpile food in case things really get bad” …fear can also linked to Saturn.
But instead, I ended up clearing out my pantry, using up every last box , can, jar of food that I had been saving for some rainy day. I also threw out some old musty clothes, ideas and ways of relating.
And then it was Cola’s time, but she gave me another winter…she was down to a nubby whisper, and then she was gone…..longevity is also one of Saturn’s gifts.
I think of this winter as the unfolding and release of our quantum entanglements, relationships that are done, and need to be released.
And Uranus helped to catalyze this process of dismemberment of our ego selves in shocking ways.
Out of those partings, we now begin a time of finding our next communities and projects and inspiration. Whereas Saturn forces us to take off our rose-colored glasses and see with rock-bottom honesty, Jupiter and Neptune allow us to once again feel the hope of renewal and see with eyes of joy again.
So here’s the good news: starting this week ( May 24 2009 and being exceptionally strong through the end of June) there is a conjunction in the heavens of Jupiter (expansion, optimism, hope, abundance) with Neptune (art, spirituality, big love, dreams, imagination) and Chiron (healing of wounds, unique creativity, magic, rainbows). They are literally overlaying, infusing, each other like 3 best supportive pals starting a new visionary project that will offer imaginative solutions, inspired creativity, radical new forms of community and partnerships, expansive philanthropy. That’s because they are joining up in Aquarius, the astrological sign most linked to helping all of humanity’s individuals, of future vision, of the next revolutions and inventions. Expect new collaborations with unconventional partners finding common ground (most of us really are over the polarized dialogue of the past years and want to relate differently). Many people will never go back to working for someone else and start up their own small business. Others will jump into a whole new line of work, returning to an unrealized childhood dream. Companies will once again start looking after their employees’ well-being.
To me, this generous gift from the heavens of a new Jupiter/ Neptune cycle is about fusing our ideals, life calling, and what brings us creative joy (aspects of our spirituality and Neptune, the color purple) with our livelihood and involvement with benefiting society (aspects of our earthly path and Jupiter, the color green) and in combining those two, finding what it means to be in the
Service of Life (Chiron).
And we are just getting started! This next month is the seeding of the next 12-13 years of creativity and compassion for our beloved Earth, and beyond. May you be guided by the magic in your
own heart, the truest guidance of all. And may you plant and grow those seeds to their own perfection.
