“Polar Bears” by Lauren Harris
I would like to share a new song poem ~ The Entelechy of Light ~ I was asked to write and present for a recent event here in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at the National Museum of Wildlife Art ~ considered to be the best museum on Earth honoring our Animal Others by the greatest artists of historic and current times.
We were celebrating February 2 ~ Groundhog Day/Candlemas/Festival of Light. This day, each year honors the celestial moment when our lifegiving Sun marks the halfway journey between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. Our event was integrative and celebratory and linked our scientific, artistic, healing, spiritual, and political communities. Jackson’s Mayor Mark Barron, in classy costume, announced whether the Marmot saw the shadow. We may or may not see more winter. It is reported a rare Bluebird was seen a month early atop Teton Village. I sense spring is near. This I know: the Ancestors were there that day, guiding us and so happy we were sharing in joy together. All our Friends on the other side, you have many, are working overtime to ensure we will get through this portal of change.
The Tetons ~ and Yellowstone ~ have always been, and remain, a mecca for our evolutionary awakening. It is no surprise that there were heightened swarms of earthquakes beneath Yellowstone in January 2014 ~ a sign of quickening and awakening to all inhabitants of Earth.
I am grateful to collaborate in this post with Lauren Harris and I thank her for these photographs of Polar Bears. They are the great messengers of climate change alerting us to wake up and become aware of who we are, what we can still do, and undo.
Below is my poem.
Entelechy of Light
Poem by Lyn Dalebout for the Festival of Light~Feb 2 2014
~ Entelechy def: the realization of potential
~ Candlemas or Festival of Lights (Christian name), Imbolc or ‘in the belly’ (Celtic name): halfway between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox~Groundhog Day (secular name)
1~Song:
As Above~So Below
As Below~So Above
2~Let us now back-track from this moment
As we return again into the Light
Let us remember the path ascending
We took to arrive here today
From above we emerge
To below we return
Seasons cycle and spiral
As we shape shift again
From below we emerge
To above we return
Our cellular memory
Is our galaxy’s call
3~Pine burrowed Marmot
Sage buried Vole
Rock nestled Pica
Earth denning Bear
All return to the dark
To nuzzle and nest
Each need time in the Earth
To dream and refresh
Pine Martin Prairie Dog
Weasel and Wolf
Wolverine Mountain Lion
Coyote Red Fox
All return to the dark
To nuzzle and nest
Each need time in the Earth
To dream and refresh
Hear their whiskered whisperings
Gestating in their rootball of tribe
They are restive and stirring
With the pull of the turbulent Light
4~Just like these mammals
We need hibernation
We are animals
We need this deep sleep
We need time in the Earth
To nuzzle and nest
We return to the dark
To dream and refresh
When our outer eyes are hushed
Our inner eyes see all
The illumination of instinct
Seeds the future’s call
5~ Nurtured in the broth of Earth
With the murmur of magma below
What did you glean in your underground time?
What revealed itself to you?
In this sanctuary of rest
We dissolve
We evolve
We resolve
We resolve to do better
We resolve to improve
We resolve to begin anew
In this sanctuary of rest
We dissolve
We evolve
We resolve
We resolve to do better
We resolve to improve
We resolve to begin anew
Pine burrowed Marmot
Sage buried Vole
Rock nestled Pica
Earth denning Bear
Pine Martin Prairie Dog
Weasel and Wolf
Wolverine Mountain Lion
Coyote Red Fox
6. Let us now look forward from this moment
As we ascend once again into our Light
We are a new tribe dreaming
Awakening Being
Remembering Light and Shadow are one
The shadow is holy
The shadow is true
The shadow reminds us
Of work still to do
As a new tribe dreaming
Calling forth evolving Being
The shadow remains by our side
The shadow is holy
The shadow is true
The shadow reminds us
of work still to do
Within each revolution
Is instilled evolution
We dissolve
We resolve
to evolve
1~Song:
As Above~So Below
As Below~So Above
May this be the year we further hear and heed the call of our wise animal beloveds, to ensure their survival, which is, of course, entwined with our own.
In Joy~In Prayer for our Guides~the Animal Others,
