We have been in a planetary pile up accentuating one quadrant of the zodiac since November of 2010 and it will continue into March 2011. This is an energetic field with real repercussions affecting the entire globe of Earth and all her inhabitants. This January has not been a time of peaceful winter dreaming, like bears hibernating, quietly, without distraction. Rather each morning upon arising, you leap out of bed, ready for action or battle, depending on your approach to life.
The nearer-to-Earth planets of our solar system, symbolizing our individual lives, are riding tandem with the outer planets of collective evolution/revolution. And all this planetary action is greeting us in the early morning hours. Perhaps you have felt extra anxiety upon arising, or more excitement and energy, or a odd combination of both. Many of these planets have been transiting through Sagittarius, sign of strategy and vision, and are now about to enter Capricorn, pushing for actions to bring dreams down to earth. This conglomeration of planets tugs at you at midnight, keeping you awake, turning on the computer to speak your opinion to someone that you think needs to hear it. Or perhaps you get busy jotting down the new design or idea that woke you up. Lucky you if you have been fortunate enough to get a good nights sleep.
Mercury (mind) * Venus (heart) * Mars (action) * Jupiter (expansion) * Athena (creativethinking) * Ceres(environment/nurturing) * Vesta (focus/dedication) * Pluto (power/transformation) * Neptune (spirituality, imagination) * Chiron (healing) * Uranus(revolution/innovation)… All these qualities meshed tightly act like a giant magnet pulling you toward your next move, relationship, project. Take a moment and reread the above list of all the areas of your life you are being asked to focus on simultaneously. Dizzying…..Too much for the mind, time to really step into your intuitional guidance system. Another way to understand what this means is that each us, through our individual circumstance/challenge/crisis is being presented with an unprecedented opportunity to take part in the collective awakening of compassionate action, revolutionary thinking, grassroots creativity.
Also historically when many planets are together in one part of the heavens, the way to find a balanced life is not by balancing many options, but rather, abandon multitasking and be like an archer, pick your target, focus, and launch that decisive arrow of ‘here’s what i want now’.
1*1*11 I am out for my new year’s day ski anticipating an Earth or sky oracle, an animal visitation, or just inspiration about what 2011 might hold. I drive north, leaving the fog behind and as the blue skies arrive, suddenly the rare phenomenon of a double sun dog appears: two sets of partial rings of rainbow surround the Sun and covering a third of the sky. Literally break-taking on this subzero morning, this seems like an extra fortuitous sign of things to come. I ponder this is a DOUBLE sun dog for 2011. Hmmmm…. a 2 and then 2 1’s. 11 as a master number. Perhaps this will be the year that many find their long awaited beloveds or soul level colleagues (one’s become two’s or two become as one) or attain a new level of mastery (11’s) and recognition in their art. To a mathematician, numbers are oracles, literally wise Beings speaking their own laws of universal truth to those who pay attention to such things. I always pay attention to numbers.
Sun dog. A word combination I love because of the implications of the power of dogs to shine the unconditional love that eternally illuminates their human’s lives. That is not part of the formal definition of sun dog:”Sun dogs, also called parhelion, are atmospheric phenomena caused by the refraction of sunlight through ice crystals…..when conditions are right, sun dogs are quite striking, looking like smaller false suns next to the real sun.”As one who has invented words and definitions her whole life, may I expand the meaning of the word? A sun dog is a celestial portal in which our Sun is seen on a circular rainbow leash of light held by all the wondrous dogs who have left the Earth in recent days. They hijack the Sun for a few hours and send this shimmering prismatic transmission to their beloveds who are still in grief and need a sign to keep going. That is what sun dogs and moon dogs have meant to me in recent years, offering hope, and a reminder that magic is in the air. Keep going.
The Sun Dog Oracle
When you stare into the shimmering inspiration of a sun dog, one way to view it is two peripheral bands,multi-colored, surrounding a single central eye of pure white light, the unrefracted rainbow.Think of your two eyes that look out and see this world in duality and the mystical third eye that sits in the center of your forehead, an inner eye, sometimes called the eye of Horus, that sees with unity and into the invisible worlds beyond form. That single eye sees what unites us, not what divides us. That single eye sees the pure radiant purpose of your life, beyond distractions or illusions.
Our two eyes allow us to have peripheral vision, sometimes a very helpful thing, sometimes providing unending distraction. They see a world in constant creation, happening in every color of the rainbow and revel in our wild eclectic differences that keep it interesting. The rainbow that refracts the ONE light is spectacular to see because it shows us how all the colors, when constrasted/complemented, are even more radiant, more alive in juxtaposition to each other. All the ribbons of colors, like our tribes of humanity, make up the totality of the whole rainbow. No surprise the rainbow is the sign of the coming age of Aquarius (still over 400 years away from a galactic perspective) where we have moved beyond the colors of nations competing to control the Earth but have birthed a global consciousness of cooperation. The rainbow…our many tribes…are a refraction of the ONE sun… and the rainbow is a vivid reminder of the beauty of our diversity.
The idea of an oracle is simply that nature is always speaking to us if we will pay attention. At times, it is possible to be given clear signs/experiences immanent in the natural world that act as clues, like a helpful guides….they seem to appear just when you need them most. Animal intuitives tell us that animals communicate using pictures. Oracles are like the Divine Mystery using pictures to get our attention reaching beyond our minds, scrolling messages in our hearts. I am sure all of you has a story or two of unexplainable Mystery and Grace entering your life at key junctures of change.
I remember the first time the idea/reality of a sky oracle (thus the title of my blog) came to me. It was December 2000 and Al Gore was about to concede the presidential election to George W. Bush. The recounting of all the votes was supposedly complete. A sky oracle in the form of an unusual lunar occurance appeared as I was attuning to what the outcome would be. I later wrote a poem about what I witnessed that night called “Recounting the Sky Oracle”. It had some decent lines~~”Called out this night by owls, and blistering coyote howls, their searing tongues escorting me toward the Moon.”~~one really bad line~~”a Moon gored through by bushy pines”(get it?)~~and a telling premonition of the coming years~~”all illusion will be brought into the light”. I can’t really explain what I saw and sensed, the poem attempts to do that, but that night I stood in wonder, perplexed in awe that the Universe seemed to be directly addressing my question, making commentary on our political process (how can that be?) giving me a sign of what was about to occur, and what was to come.
“Full Moon” by Victoria Blumberg
For some of you, this may be a far stretch to think the natural world has a say in what goes down, here on Earth, with humans at the helm of stewardship. Might more-than-human forces be at play, actually trying to communicate with us, and even infuse commentary at times, attempting to provide clues and guidance to our blindsided natures?
For others of you, it’s a no-brainer that we are inextricably linked, immersed in our larger ecological terrain and wider celestial fields. A no-brainer, literally as the brain cannot define/explain the interlocking ways of the interwebs of life. We can’t comprehend the Great Mystery, God, whatever you choose to call the wider, wilder field of truth, never fully KNOWING. But certainly we EXPERIENCE this reality, especially in times of birth, death, loss, love, and the other mysterious portals of life that really matter. Wise friend Geneen Marie Haugen, writer and guide to the intertwined mysteries of nature and psyche~~http://www.animas.org/~~says it this way:”What if Earth is trying to seduce us for her own purposes? What if our own deepest imaginings and allurements are not only ours, but also expressions of Earth dreaming through us? What if humanity’s greatest visionary enactments originate in mindful participation with Earth and cosmos?” Something to consider.
1*11*11: I venture out on another day of numerological interest to see what’s up…anymore cosmic information I should know? There it is again, the double sun dog in the same place it was before. There’s been a lone black wolf seen striding the snow, leaving tracks that I have seen. I think of my Cola, and wonder, did she mesh with wolf when she died, was she able to merge with a wild canine friend and that way can visit me in form at times? Sun dogs and wolf dogs, spirit friends. Tracks of the heart. I always give a special thanks to the animal oracles when they appear.
When I think of the focused fusion of the planetary energies right now and where they might be pushing us, the sun dog is a helpful image to meditate upon. This is not a time to get distracted by what is peripheral (def. “of secondary importance”) but to attune to and see with that central shining Sun that illuminates your core, which shines the light on your path to see your next step. I know we must use our periphreal vision to navigate the daily details of life. When you do look out, may your vision be one of appreciation for the prismatic diversity of our Earth. I’ve never liked the use of the word “colorblind” in regards to race, rather might it be better to see with”rainbowed vision”? Hopefully for at least some part of your day, be it in meditation, in church, at yoga, sitting in nature, return to your center, your third eye, to your central Sun. Don’t spend the whole day getting pulled off course by what is endlessly fascinating yet can be time-stealing. Don’t spend too much time trying to change others or to get them to see your point of view. They will eventually GET you, if you are true to your Self. Use this unique temporal portal of planets to assist you to bring your focus back to what remains central to your life, your core beliefs, your one true Self.
When I think of what is central in my life, what lies at my core, I think of this quote by Shunryu Suzuki from “zen mind, beginner’s mind”: “To express yourself freely as you are is the most important thing to make yourself happy and to make others happy”.This sentiment is the core of our American democracy, the mission statement of the Aquarian Age. May it be a prayer for you, for all, in 2011.
May you express yourself freely as you are. This is the most important thing to make yourself happy and to make others happy.
