New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Taurus/Gemini
“Eagle” detail of photograph by Saga Eksell
This New SolLunar Cycle begins in the later part of sidereal Taurus but quickly shifts into four weeks of Sun in Gemini. The essence of Taurus the Bull is to know where you stand, and also to take a stand based on your values. In this time of increasing smoke and mirrors clouding our planetary field by despotic leaders attempting to mind-control their minions who are willing victims (you can probably glean between these lines where I stand about current events), this New Moon can support you to THINK FOR YOURSELF if you will choose to THINK FOR YOURSELF. This will be the gift as both Sun and Moon shift into Gemini (sign on the mind and of shadow and light) for much of this SolLunar Cycle. Be skeptical about what you are being told and instead discern, analyze, ask your gut, what feels right to you compared to what feels way off and outright wrong.
In other astrological news, it is Summer Solstice in our Northern Hemisphere on June 21 and 4:07 am MDT. And importantly, Mars will turn retrograde on June 26 until August 27, catalyzing a tornadic portal of change and crisis for many and on the world stage. During the time of its retrograde, Mars will also be at perihelion (closest to the Earth) so it will literally and energetically be brighter, redder, bolder, and more influential in our planetary field.
Thank you, beloved friend, Saga Eksell, for the use of your imaginative and provocative black and white photographs, perfect for the Sun transiting Gemini, sign of shadow and light. Here’s the link to view more of Saga’s evocative photographs.

New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Taurus/Gemini
“Beach Stones” photograph by Saga Eksell
Here is a list of New Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from LunarPlanner:
“Beginning the Sprouting Phase of the Lunar Cycle, a new theme emerges, a new idea or concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. Often this process is one of discovery, slowly revealing a simple theme over a day or two, or it may be quite clear and specific, even suggesting a major life change. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen.”
Wed June 13
New SolLunar cycle in sidereal Taurus: The essence of Taurus the Bull is knowing where you stand, and also possibly having to take a stand for your values. On the first day of this New Moon, both Sun and Moon meet up in the latter part of sidereal Taurus linked to the Horns of the Bull which symbolize either being stubborn for ego reasons and the need to be right, or being extremely determined to succeed in your goals. Examine that question in your life in relationship to events unfolding in your life. The Sun and Moon will shift into sidereal Gemini a few days after, activating many ideas, a flurry of travel, or too much information flooding in, forcing you to become more discerning in what you ingest and what you truly believe is right. Issues surrounding mental health will be prominent during this four week period.
Mercury in Gemini square Chiron in Pisces: Thoughts can either wound us or bring healing solutions depending on where we place our focus. Use this aspect to find a better way to view a situation so as not to make it worse, a reoccurring theme we need to practice for this entire SolLunar Cycle.
Thu June 14
Moon/Mercury/Pallas Athene conjunction in Gemini opposite Saturn in Sagittarius: This highly intellectual, curious, mind-expanding aspect creates a very busy mind today. The focusing energy of Saturn can help your organize the mind-flurry or create a feeling of overwhelm, even depression. Thankfully, a helpful trine to Neptune supports using the power of your imagination to envison new options, setting you free from an old mind-set.
Venus in Cancer square Uranus in Aries: Prepare for sudden shifts (which might include accidents so move cautiously) in your family dynamics or on the home-front. Experiment with new ways of doing things or being in relationship to one another.
Fri June 15
Mercury in Gemini opposite Saturn in Sagittarius: A seriousness of mind comes with this annual alignment, keeping us on task. It can also create a pessimistic view of the world, so work with your beliefs, knowing you do have a choice as to how you view the world.
Venus in Cancer trine Chiron in Pisces: This heart-based aspect fosters non-verbal, compassionate understanding within group dynamics. Practically speaking, are you drinking clean, clear water? If not, invest in a water-filtration system. The simple act of staying hydrated by drinking pure water greatly enhances health on every level.
Sat June 16
Moon/Venus/North Lunar Node conjunction in Cancer: Beauty alert! Tonight will be the monthly pairing of the crescent Moon and Venus just after sunset. Offer thanks in advance for clear skies so you can witness this wonder. What makes this conjunction particularly potent is that the Moon (what you need) and Venus (what you want) are aligning with the North Lunar Node (your future self). Use the power of this portal to set forth strong intentions and prayers of gratitude for your deepest longings and what you seek to create next.
Sun enters sidereal Gemini: This is the day our illuminating Sun enters Gemini, setting in motion an increased focus on the shadow and light of our lives. Everyone has a shadow, just as Earth has the night and day and both the Sun and Moon cast shadows. It is part of our world, and part of the human psychological make-up. The point is not to project the shadow onto others through blame and or avoiding personal responsibility (which some authoritarian leaders are modeling with exceptional skill) but to embrace the shadow whole-heartedly and work with it diligently.
Here is my favorite quote on the purpose of having a shadow from the combined teachings of the Mother and Sri Auribindo (from “Our Many Selves: Practical Yogic Psychology ~ Lotus Press 2002). You might find in helpful in dealing with yours: “Everyone possesses two opposite tendencies of character, which are like the light and shade of the same thing. You cannot have an object which gets the light from one side without its casting a shadow on the other. The shadow is like a sign of what you had to conquer in your nature in order to be able to realize what you have come to do. If you have a part to play, a mission to fulfill, you will always carry in yourself the main difficulty preventing you from realizing it, so that you have within your reach the victory you must win. If you had to fight against a difficulty which is everywhere on Earth, it would be very difficult, while if you carry in your own nature, just the shadow or defect you must conquer, well, it is there, within your reach: You see all the time the effects of this difficulty and can fight it directly, immediately. It is a very practical organization.”
Sun June 17
Moon/Ceres conjunction in Cancer/Leo: Ceres, now classified as a dwarf planet, symbolizes healthy Earth environs and food sources, governs caregiving, and supports nurturing those who are made most vulnerable by the brutality of the unevolved breed of brutish humans who seek to control and abuse others. This monthly pairing encourages you to examine your caregiving roles, what needs to change, and discover what is most nourishing to you. Give yourself permission to release relationships where others seek to control or abuse you, or are simply unhealthy for you as you change and grow.
Mon June 18
Neptune in sidereal Aquarius turns retrograde: Neptune is our solar system’s planetary ruler of the power of our imagination to create new worlds. It turns retrograde today and will turn direct again on November 24. This nebulous background influence will be working on us for many months, guiding us, but from the place of the dreamtime, reflective time. It gives us a chance to examine our current goals and dreams and be freed from illusory or unrealistic possibilities. Amidst the impending chaos of this summer, remember to consciously, daily, use this transit to embrace what are the truest dreams and desires emerging form your soul’s watery, intuitive depths, beyond words. Neptune also rules false gods, so use this aspect to discern what is deceitful coming from those who use the power of Neptune to confuse, deceive and outright lie. Smoke and mirrors abound. THINK FOR YOURSELF.
Moon in Leo: The Leo Moon adds creative spark to life today. Take time off to play more doing what brings you joy.
Tue June 19
Venus/North Lunar Node conjunction in Cancer: This fortunate alignment asks you to appreciate the best of what you inherited from your genetics and lineage, even from your past lives. Keep what is kind and compassionate and let go of habits that are fear-based in the ways of old tribal thinking. This alignment is opposite the current Mars/South Lunar Node which is aggressively calling up old health issues/stuck beliefs and relationship patterns in need of release. The counter-balance of this opposition leads us to new options as we shed the out-dated past so we can engage with all of life with greater love and acceptance.
My friend Nick offers important insight about this from his Lunar Planner:” This is about shifting out of a fear-based resonance, from where we react to life experience, generally in a fight or flight mode, to one where we choose to participate from an open receptive heart. This can be worked with in a very conscious way, in the simplest of things. When we would normally be defensive or shy away from an experience, instead, place focus upon your heart, and simply and unconditionally be open and receptive without fear or judgment to embrace the experience.”
Mercury in Gemini trine Jupiter in Libra: This aspect brings positive news, or a timely piece of information lands at your door. Share ideas and possibilities with supportive friends and colleagues.
Sun in Gemini opposite Vesta in Sagittarius: This aspect helps you stay intellectually focused. Commit to a future adventurous trip or educational endeavor.
First Quarter Moon

Here’s a list of the First Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza ~ www.lunarplanner.com
“The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps to move forth on what you were inspired about…it is time to now participate in trust and knowing. Trust in the process. Demonstrate this trust in physical action and you will be supported. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. Simply, this phase is a time to work.”
Wed June 20
First Quarter Moon: Moon in Virgo square Sun in Gemini: The trigger of the productive Virgo Moon to bright-ideas Sun in Gemini can bring those thoughts down to earth and kick you into action surrounding health goals and service projects. As tomorrow is technically the longest day of the year, you can work late into tonight with the extended light.
Thu June 21
Summer Solstice ~ 3:07 am MST: On this longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, celebrate the gift of lengthier sunrises and extended sunsets, such miraculous glory and glow bathing our Earth this time of year.
Venus in Cancer opposite Mars in Capricorn: This opposition is now exact. Here’s my post from June 19: This fortunate alignment asks you to appreciate the best of what you inherited from your genetics and lineage, even from your past lives.
My friend Nick writes well abut this:” This is about shifting out of a fear-based resonance, from where we react to life experience, generally in a fight or flight mode, to one where we choose to participate from an open receptive heart. This can be worked with in a very conscious way, in the simplest of things. When we would normally be defensive or shy away from an experience, instead, place focus upon your heart, and simply and unconditionally be open and receptive without fear or judgment to embrace the experience.”
Moon in Virgo square Mercury/Pallas Athene in Gemini/Pluto in Sagittarius: The master political strategists are at the top of their games today, and you can be, too. Think your way out of or through any perceived blockages. A bright idea or plan awaits you if you work the muscle of your mind. Meditate, too. It’s an excellent aspect for writers resolving problems in their manuscripts, mechanics fixing vehicles, computer technicians performing their healing wizardry.
Fri June 22
Moon in Libra opposite Uranus/Juno in Aries trine Sun in Gemini: This uplifting social aspect also encourages spontaneity in your day. Trust a sudden shift in plans will work in your favor.
Sat June 23
Mercury in Gemini opposite Pluto in Sagittarius: Obsessive thinking, over-thinking, and scheming are part of this challenging aspect.
Sun in Gemini square Chiron in Pisces: This annual first-quarter square of Sun to Chiron can bring about a healing crisis that must be addressed. It also provides good advice if you are willing to listen without defensiveness by embracing your own vulnerability. It’s wise to ask for help when you need it.
Moon/Jupiter conjunction in Libra: This jubilant, optimisitc aspect is also prone to hyberbole and excessive behaviors. You choose.
Sun June 24
Moon in Scorpio quincunx Sun in Gemini/Uranus in Aries: The old-soul Moon in Scorpio (at times, suspicious) forms adjusting quincunxes to young-soul but equally wise Gemini/Aries. Embrace and work from both your depth and your breadth all at once so you can operate with your full range.
Mon June 25
Venus in Cancer square Jupiter in Libra: The square aspect encourages hard work and decision-making. Tensions may arise in your personal relationships. Commit to make needed changes in behaviors/plans going forward.
Tue June 26
Mars in sidereal Capricorn turns retrograde: I’ve been alerting you to this aspect since early May when this aspect began on May 12. Now Mars actually halts and heads backwards (from Earth’s perspective) until August 27, creating a volatile, perhaps challenging summer. It’s important to keep a cool head when surprising events arise.
Here are a few things I’ve already said, with some additions, about one of 2018’s most important astrological events:
Mars turns retrograde on June 26 until August 27 (however the ‘shadow’ period that defines the whole cycle runs form May 12 – October 8) catalyzing a tornadic portal of change and crisis for many and on the world stage. During the time of it’s retrograde, Mars will also be at perihelion (closest to the Earth) so it will literally and energetically be brighter, redder, bolder, more influential in our planetary field.
Mars turning retrograde implies it’s time to not push or be pushy, but be willing to take things more slowly and examine which direction you might ultimately want to go. Some of you might do a remodel of your space, but don’t be surprised or upset if there are delays in the construction process. Some of you will decide to close up shop for good. This will be a time for many souls to choose to transition back to Spirit, which is already occurring. Some of you will slow yourselves down physically by an injury or by choosing surgery during this time frame. Old health issues can heat up again (Mars rules inflammation) as symptoms reappear, forcing you to make the next round of changes in diet or unhealthy behaviors. From the collective perspective, this promises to be a time of greater drama and revelation, and going to battle as Mars aligns in forceful Capricorn, ruler of our institutions and the military. As this Mars retrograde is aligned with the South Lunar Node during the entire cycle, much will be brought to light about past abuses of power on all levels, leading the way to institutional reform.
Sun in Gemini opposite Saturn in Sagittarius: This annual event is rarely easy, is full of tension, sparks standoffs, and is exaggerated by tomorrow’s Full Moon. Use the seriousness of today by focusing your thoughts and actions, ending procrastination . This will be a turning-point kind of day in terms of global events so keep an eye on the news for those of you pay attention to such things. Or conversely, use Saturn’s restraint to take a break from media of all kinds to reflect and think for yourself, this month’s SolLunar theme.
Seriously prepare for tomorrow’s ponderous Full Moon~
