“Zebras” by Sue Ewald Cedarholm
I imagine zebras might dream of moving beyond the black and white stripes that make them almost identical and mostly indistinguishable from their fellow tribe. I wonder do the dreamers, rebels and visionaries of the zebra tribe dream in color and long to manifest that palette in their daily skin and self expression? Or maybe at least on a zebra weekend as they let down their tails.
Wanting to be unique, to be YOURSELF, is specifically linked to the astrological sign of Aquarius. And to the planet of Uranus that is said to be the ruler of Aquarius. Rulership implies they are sympatico and carry a similar vibration. You could say Uranus is the most eccentric planet in our local solar system. It has more of an elliptical orbit, not circular like our other planetary Beings. And Uranus rotates on its side, unlike all the other planets. It is our true oddball, turning in its own time, moving to its unique dance. Ah to have the courage of Uranus.
I am writing about Uranus’s influence at this time as it is deeply at play in all our lives, our relations, our institutions, and our evolving collective history. I would suggest Uranus is leading the charge of this evolutionary shift that is felt by all, denied by many.
It is time to change, whether you like it or not.
Uranus is the astrological ruler of the nervous system and our neurological upgrades, as I like to call these shifts. I know a number of people who suddenly fainted in the recent months, including yours truly. Without boring you with the details, I can honestly say I feel like I was taken to a new level, like I am a more evolved version of my former self. Lyn 5.0 or something like that. Intriguing. I seem to have made a leap I have long been cultivating through vigilant and consistent practice. I am living more in the present moment with less fear, more trust and a desire to retain calm at the core of my nervous system rather than feed a vague anxiety. I find I am more productive, with less stress, and my mind feels clearer and more focused. I remain puzzled by all this as it was scary and mysterious when I was seemingly seized. But I willingly accept the gift this experience has been. And as I shared my story, I quickly discovered my experience was not unique. Granted, I have a strong Uranian influence in my personal astrological chart. Beings, like me, can be prone to fainting, seizures or literally be magnets for lightning. No kidding.
So it could be said, we are all capable of being seized, struck and awakened during these Uranian times. And when your moment of courage comes, you must move suddenly, quickly. Follow your intuition exactly….. and leap.
“Painted Silk Ponies” by Sue Ewald Cedarholm
I am writing this piece to the art of my friend Sue Cedarholm. So here they are: horses of a different color. Uranus would nudge: we are all horses of a different color. You may have grown up thinking you were one type of person with specific desires, preferences, talents. And as you age you see you have sometimes completely morphed into a Being with a new set of desires, preferences, talents. The philosopher Euprides says: “The wisest follow their own direction.”
All of us, no exceptions, has a Uranian nature~a desire for freedom and autonomy~manifesting in specific dimensions in our lives. For some of you, it governs choices in your home situation. For others, it might involve unusual and even challenging circumstances with children or animals. For some, the radical element leaps forth through the path of career. Or choosing the path of alternative methods of healing in regards to health. (A look at your own personal astrological chart shows clearly where this influence will manifest.)
Contemplate these two Uranian words:
Sovereign~Acting independently and without outside interference. Possessing supreme and ultimate power.
Nonconformity~Conformity is defined as behaving in accordance with socially accepted conventions or standards so nonconformity is the failure or refusal to conform to a prevailing rule or practice.
Granted, the darker side of Uranus can manifest as sociopaths or coincide with a desire to literally blow things up with a total disregard for others. This is what has just occurred today at this year’s Boston Marathon. Sadly these kinds of truly tragic events are often linked to Uraninan times. I am stunned by today’s events as I put the finishing touches on this post.
An adage associated with Uranus is ‘expect the unexpected.’ But we truly never can, can we? Today’s tragedy came out of the blue and will have shocking reverberations in the days and years to come.
Consider the difference between these two words that also carry the Uranian message:
Deconstruct: to reduce something to its constituent parts in order to reinterpret.
Destruct: the deliberate cause of irreparable terminal damage.
The best use of these Uranian times is to step into your role of creative visionary and reformer. If you are pissed about the way things are going in the world, then choose to act on behalf of creating a better world. Make daily choices that will benefit all of creation. Don’t just be an outsider ranting your rant. Take your passion and infiltrate the mainstream. Shift our world forever, for the better.
“Elephants” by Sue Ewald Cedarholm
Might you be a sovereign non-conformist? Think about this for a bit. That doesn’t mean you live outside the law. At times it is our old tribal laws and attachments that keep us literally living in the dark ages. The preacher might preach “Judge not lest you (or ye) be judged.” Yet you may witness your bishop or elder viciously judging the neighboring religion. I think these times demand we all need a little sovereign non-conformity…ie…listening less to outside influences and listening more to that wise voice of your Inner Teacher. This is actually, after all, where all of the great religions have always guided us to go for thousands of years.
Consider being a sovereign non-conformist. You will possess supreme and ultimate power and will abide by rules and practices that align with your inner wisdom and compassion. If someone is telling you to judge your fellow human, you will refuse to do so. You will set a better example and model a better behavior. Such is the nature of evolution. Seems smart to me. The wisest follow their own direction.
“Flamingos” painted on silk by Sue Ewald Cedarholm
We come to know ourselves through inner reflection, creativity, self-expression and through our relationships. Exploring your creativity, in all its dimensions and varied interests will be key in the coming years as we reinvent the definition of what it is to be human and to contribute to our shared humanity. The key to creating beauty and vitality in our world always happens one person at at time. I know I harp upon this point endlessly: THE key to changing the world is through your daily personal courage and choice. The way this futuristic Aquarian age is happening~NOW~ is by the courage and passion of each individual on Earth. Such forgotten power we have. Time to reclaim that power. Your power.
You truly aren’t competing with anyone to be YOURSELF right? Isn’t that obvious? Why do we constantly lose sight of that fundamental truth? In a world currently primarily based in competition, it is easy to forget this. You are not in competition with anyone. Your ONLY job is to be yourself and delight in all the gifts you have come to share with us.
Share your gifts with us. This is the gift of Uranus.
Here in Jackson, WY this event is a tribute to these times. Filmmaker Jenn Tennican is premiering her short film “Into the Arts: A Personal Journey” on Tuesday April 16th at 6:30 pm at Center for the Arts. The film and discussion will focus on adults who are discovering, rediscovering their arts experience through formal education, highlighting the student/teacher relationship. Heres’ a link to see more: https://vimeo.com/63139355
Awaken a dormant talent: become a student.
Share your gift: become a mentor.
Do the flamboyant Flamingos ever want to tone it down a notch? I wonder if some would prefer the black and white tailored suits of Zebra. But alas, no chance for a flamboyant Flamingo to don a cloak of earth tones. They must accept their nature. And in that acceptance, celebrate their visibility in the Avian Clan. Yet who knows if one day we will spot an albino Flamingo or some evolving combination of color?
My flights of fantasy pose an enigma for all of us at times. How do we accept our evolutionary roots while also wanting to push, grow and evolve beyond those roots? Uranian transits seem to call forth the desire to move beyond complacency and comfort.
A portal is opening in your life. A chance for breaking free into greater freedom of expression is at hand. Will you leap? Will you answer the universal call to evolve?
“Queen and King Penguins” by Sue Ewald Cedarholm
Ah the Uranian Penguins. Birds who don’t fly, but nonetheless, go the distance. Penguins do indeed fly but not in air, but under water. Penguins fly, but under water. Ah the Uranian Penguins.
They broke the mold. They migrate for love. They go to the ends of the Earth to find what makes them happy. They fiercely nurture their tribe. They have lots of fun and celebrate endlessly with their people. They have epic endurance and exhibit epic joy.
May you be like the Penguin tribe. They evolved. They took a leap. They risked adapting.
Take your risk and be rewarded in ways you never imagined.
When you take the risk you will be rewarded in ways you cannot yet imagine.
Surprising gifts await you. Such is the gift of Uranus.
In Joy,
