We have entered an important astrological cycle of reflection and renewal, requiring our heart’s attention. Venus is in retrograde from October 8 to November 18 2010. This is an enchanting cycle~Venus leaves her post as the evening star to unite with Earth on Oct 28-29 and then be reborn as the morning star. This is the part of the magical language Venus speaks every other year: love setting, love arising, hearts reborn. After the wilder destabilizing energies of August/September, it’s time to stop, rest, imagine yourself in a quiet eddy of the stream of time and ask: am I residing~on every level~be it home, livelihood, relationships, attitudes, beliefs where my heart wants to be now.
Predictions were made about possible dire events during the middle of August when Saturn (authority figures, status quo) Pluto (explosions, death) and Uranus (revolutionary erratic actions) ground their gears in stellar tension destined to signify major global events. These kinds of planetary line-ups have historically coincided with revolutions such as 1968-69, the French Revolution, and cataclysmic events such as September 11 2001.
As one who ardently attunes to earth/sky events, I knew challenges were at hand. I wanted to write about it at the time, but I too was at the mercy of these forces of change. I could barely keep up with the barrage of surprising new twists and turns of life. Increasingly conscious of what I choose to put into my personal and planetary field of intention, as every thought counts, every prayer from each of us matters, I just tried to stay present to each unfolding day… prayed for peaceful rest at night, which rarely occurred all summer.
In retrospect, I am surprised about how this highly anticipated event (by astrologers at least) manifested. It seemed that rather than mega disasters (sadly there were some floods and fires that dislodged many) it seemed to affect humanity as internal transformations at the deepest personal level, in every family, every community. One wise friend and intuitive healer, Cindy Schell, spoke of being given a new program but no operating manual. She realized the point was to decipher the new information in her own unique way. Excellent metaphor! No one could tell her how to operate in these new energies, one day bathing the next day beating the Earth. Perhaps this was true for many. A feeling of being entirely on your own, having to navigate your own path. The pitch black bushwhack. Your instincts got your through. Paradoxically, with my clients and community I noticed another theme of this summer of reinvention. Families were funneled back together, through dramas or sheer desire to reconnect. Your pods of people found you…and you, them. In the process of reuniting, the need to confront old patterns and paradigms of being in family were revisited, released and if you were lucky, laughing out loud eventually at what once seemed SO important.

Retrograde can mean “to revert to an earlier and usually inferior condition” or it can mean to simply to back over old territory, hopefully for reevaluation and reflection. These astrological retrograde cycles tend to produce a little bit of both in our lives. You may revert to undesirable behaviors, but that can eventually lead to a desire for reform.
“Re” means to do again, but never from the same place the original events took place, but from the distance and perspective of time passing. There is the grace of the evolutionary spiral of time that comes out of our experience and our ever evolving lives.

These are scientific facts that will awaken your heart knowing.
And here are a few thoughts on how to work with this Venus retrograde period.
Re-juvenate: Think of this time as an early Lent, if you are so inclined. Release what you have come to love in excess. Do an elimination cleanse. Focus less externally and place your gaze more internally on your spiritual/emotional/mental health.
Re-evaluate: The word value is under the domain of Venus. Personal value, be it money, self-worth, self appreciation. Vow to honor your own desires alongside your partners if you are more the giver, and consider becoming a better listener if you are normally the taker. Become a better steward of your money.
Re-member: Experiment with some of the emerging body therapies that can truly help you release deep conditioned patterns for good, especially any belief that you aren’t entirely loveable JUST AS YOU ARE.
Re-connect: Venus retrograde cycles are often times when we serendipitously reconnect with old loves and cohorts. I imagine the social network sites might even crash due to the extra overload, and have to re-vamp their technology.
Re-imagine: Venus is considered to be the lower octave expression of Neptune, the planet of spirituality, art and imagination. Spend time each day imagining yourself in the most joyous, loving circumstances you can. This retrograde cycle is the dreamtime that precedes the eventual manifestation in this physical dimension, especially after Venus moves into direct motion on November 18.

November 18 2010. This is the day both Venus (love, art, money) and Jupiter (optimism, abundance, joy, encouragement) move again into forward motion (in relationship to Earth). Out of the natural expected chaos of the retrograde cycle, a new order emerges. On October 28, the old Earth/Venus synodic cycle completes (from March 27 2009) and the new cycle begins. Since this new alignment occurs in sidereal Aries, the sign of enlightenment, we are reminded we aren’t just bodies of tense muscle/dense bone, but bodies and beings of infinite Light.
Perhaps this coming Venus cycle will allow us to advance up that spiral of light toward a world of greater love. In these times, it is almost irrelevant what our leaders think, but more about each of us being done, for good, forever with allowing ourselves to be controlled by the unseen but very real forces of polarization and fear. The power is in our hands. We have done our work. Those ways of manipulation no longer garner our attention or sustain us in any way.
Helped by the illumination of Venus, this autumn season can be a harvest of harmony. Don’t make fear your food. Feast rather on love. Enter in whole-heartedly wherever you see the ways of love being spread, discussed, shared, encouraged. That’s what this Venus cycle can solidify in you at the cellular level. We are realigning in the DNA of joy. This is not a metaphor. This is the real deal. Cellular joy. Reverberating, resonating, restoring our world.
In Joy,

Thank you for sharing. Once again, perfect timing for me. The energies experienced as of late have been mind boggling. Thanks for the suggestions on how to flow with it. As I read your words I can hear you as if your were speaking it. You have such a gift. Thanks.
