Expansive
“An Ancient Presence” painting by Dave McNally
I am increasingly wary of making any statements of astrological surety these days, given the volatile historical period we are embedded within. Witness the sudden and unpredicted eruption of Japan’s volcano last week. Still, it seems to be the job of this blog to attempt to provide some form of guidance, celestial weather report. So here goes: perhaps, maybe, potentially, we will be enveloped with supportive star weather for the next two weeks as a growing trine between the planets of Mars/Jupiter/Uranus is coming to fruition this week, and forms a kite formation involving the Sun next week. This is considered to be one of the more grace-filled astrological geometries. Surely this aspect will bring a new expansiveness to your life and to our planetary Field.
Also, Mercury makes it’s final retrograde of 2014 for a three week period. The opportunity offered is a chance to clear out and catch up on many details of tasks you’ve left behind. Or stage a shutdown of your social media, and take a much needed break. For some, this will be essential to bring balance again to your nervous system and your sanity. Consider a retreat, imbibe in the nourishment of silence, meditation, retreat, reflection.

Mon Sept 29
This morning we all awaken to the crescent phase of the Moon to Sun, which brings a sense of upbeat momentum and optimism in the morning hours. But there is an additional factor at play as the day goes forward. The focused, possessive Scorpio Moon makes a monthly conjunction to Mars ~ passion/your warrior self/driven to act. Both Moon and Mars are conjunct the fierce star of Antares, the red heart of the Scorpion ~ how we use the tremendous creativity we humans have for either destructive purposes or inspired solutions. This aspect surely calls forth direct, combative conversations, even a willingness to fight and defend your territory. Thankfully, as Mercury is currently moving through negotiating Libra, today’s planetary soup may involve confrontation, brutal honesty (with others and within yourself), but also a willingness to negotiate.
Tue Sept 30
Yesterday’s events continue to reverberate today. The emotional Moon completes the once-monthly, ever deep communion with Scorpio. Perhaps you have shed quite a few tears in the past two days as your emotions became unfrozen and you became a puddle. Today our beloved Luna heads into somewhat sunnier Sagittarius. Recuperate and dry out today as a new kind of emotional intensity arrives tomorrow.
Wed Oct 1
Today marks the first quarter square of the Sun in Virgo to the Moon in Sagittarius. This combination of the elements of earth and fire can make for deep frustrations surfacing to be dealt with, and also manifest as taking grounded visionary action. In addition, the Moon aligns with ferocious delving Pluto as the day progresses. Your willfulness, determination, athletic prowess, dogmatism or power-grabbing tendencies are all heightened ~ qualities linked to probing Pluto.

It’s another day of a sweet lull-between-bigger-building cosmic waves coming this weekend. But there are two significant aspects. The truth-seeking Sagittarius Moon makes a tense but creative square to the perfection seeking Pallas Athene in Virgo. This will be a wonderful day for creative teams to brainstorm and align their collaborative design ideas in innovative ways. By the way, this discussion might be between you and yourself strategizing your next life steps. The evening brings a Capricorn Moon opposing Juno in Cancer. Your family structure, whatever form that takes, involves discussions about responsibilities, negotiations, rules, and what ultimately brings greater harmony to your family.
Fri Oct 3
The wonderful waxing trine of the driven, excellence-seeking Capricorn Moon to the detail-oriented, perfectionistic Sun in Virgo makes for a very productive day. On this Friday night, humans will be extra fashion-aware. Be bold, wild, go out on a limb, buy something shockingly new for you for your evening event. The Moon opposes exuberant Jupiter, so emotions are heightened, more dramatic, increasing the fun-factor. But beware of going overboard, also an attribute of Jupiter. Since Mercury is slowing down to go retrograde tomorrow, drive/dance safely as this aspect quite often leads to accidents if you are blithely unaware of others co-inhabiting your space or the road.

It’s a major star weather day. I love this: Mars makes a semi-rare trine to Uranus (and soon to Jupiter early next week). Historically this aspects manifests as finding innovative solutions to long-standing stand-offs, revolutionary moments of positive activism, a desire to take a risk and be more courageous in your personal choices. All good! But Mars will first make a square to Chiron ~ also called the Wounded Healer ~ which means you are extra keen on knowing what it would be in your best interest to change, to shift, to abandon. This aspect can create a feeling of ‘it’s now or never’. Don’t ignore this feeling. Also, today’s other big news is Mercury heads into retrograde until October 25. Mercury in retrograde is nothing to fear. It is actually a welcome respite from the too much unrelenting forward momentum of our driven culture. It’s time to invoke more internal reflection. If you want to pause your Facebook and Twitter accounts for a few weeks, now would be a good time. If you want to go on a spiritual retreat, now is the time. If you want to complete that book, finish your unfinished 2013 taxes, now is a good time. Mercury will be traversing the sidereal (true) astrological terrain of both Libra and Virgo. Relationships, health, boundaries are just a few ways this cycle of Mercury in reflection may want to manifest in your life.

This is important: today Ceres will pass Saturn in a somewhat rare conjunction. Ceres is the astrological ruler of issues linked to agriculture and food, children and women, our relationship to the holy animals and caring for the land. Ceres, this Goddess of Fertility and Nourishment, makes an alignment with dedicated and committed Saturn, new agreements can happen, the old guard may suddenly shift. Examples: a major mainstream food company will take on the GMO debate. The consumers are self-educating! These companies will finally figure out it will be in their long-term interest to feed better food to the people, who buy their food, who they rely upon. We are already seeing the NFL take on domestic violence as a cause they can actually help to shift and eventually heal. I know all this seems obvious to some of us, but not yet to all. Activism and patience is required. This new five-plus year cycle will launch historical long-lasting, long-ranging shifts. Ceres rules our deep grief as well. Out of the depth of suffering we have experienced or witnessed, may we find a way to make the world a better place. And today’s inspiring Moon/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius mirrors all of the above and adds the elixir of compassion, forgiveness, and love to the mix.

For those of you readers who live here, in this blessed expansive wide open space of Jackson Hole Wyoming, you will recognize the subject of this painting. It is the Sleeping Indian Mountain that borders our National Elk Refuge. What an honor it is to live, walk, camp, meditate, celebrate upon this majestic, wise, mysterious mountain. Thank you Dave McNally for capturing all these qualities and much more in your extraordinary light-filled painting.
