Joyful New Year to you! Perhaps you’ve heard the big astrology buzz about this upcoming week? As we enter 2016, all planets are currently in forward motion. This is a positive harbinger of the year ahead. Yet two planets, Jupiter and Mercury, will quickly turn retrograde by the end of this week. Planetary retrogradation, when it regularly occurs, is never bad or even upsetting. It simply marks a time shift to get serious about making things happen. That shift might involve releasing aspects of our past or engage in research about future possibilities.
The sage astrological advice this week is stay super focused and optimistic about what you do want to manifest, especially before January 5 when Mercury goes retrograde, followed by Jupiter on the 7th . Spend extra time sending out positive intentions and visualizations to the benevolent Universe so the Forces that Be that are there to assist you, know how to support what you need and desire going forward.

Here is a description of the qualities of the Last Quarter Moon phase compliments of my friend and sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza at lunarplanner:
“This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. A sense of completion comes forth with a recognition that the past scenario has served its purpose and it is time to leave what is antiquated behind. Essentially a lesser self is what we will be shedding. Step forth from old facades, and free yourself from past ways of participating in life. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.”
Please note: I make my posts according to the Lunar cycles, posting on the New, First Quarter, Full and Last Quarter Moons. My hope is to support you to work with and within the natural flow of time, the Thirteen Moons of each year, which can help your life flow with more ease and grace. Also, I base my interpretations and predictions on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. Fri January 1
Last Quarter Moon: Moon in Virgo square Sun in Sagittarius: Sometimes a type of crisis (def: a turning point when an important change takes place either leading to recovery or death) can occur when the Moon and Sun square off. Today, as we enter the completion phase of this last SolLunar cycle, a key decision may force its hand. Also use this first day of 2016 to make deeper-than-ever soul vows for the changes you want to make. You can do it, the question is always, will you? Thankfully, today’s Virgo Moon supports your willingness and willpower.
Sat January 2
Moon in Virgo square Pluto opposite Uranus: It’s a similar theme today as yesterday but now the element of crisis and breakthrough looms even larger. That’s because the boundary-setting, service-minded Virgo Moon makes a tense square to transformational Pluto then opposes radical, breakthrough Uranus. There is a great dynamism to this day, so may you use it well. Remember too, Virgo often feels work is as fun as play, so work away today!
Sun January 3
Moon/Mars/Juno align in Libra: Even though the feeling Moon has entered peace-loving Libra, today might involve the edginess of negotiating your needs or your partner/s needs in key relationships. That’s because the Moon is aligning with truth-telling, combative Mars and Juno ~ asteroid of our core partnerships, alliances, close friends. This aspect is also wonderful for playful competition and sharing in athletic events with your buddies.
Mon January 4
Much of the tension of tomorrow’s aspects is building today so skip ahead to the intensity coming on January 5.
Tue January 5
Sun/Pluto conjunction: Once a year this life-changing, death defying alignment occurs. The inspiring Light of our Sun essentially crosses the face of the orb of Pluto, known as the love of power or the power of love. So you will tend to see both aspects manifest on our planet today. This alignment makes you fierce in heart and courage if need be, and increases your super powers. So discover what those might be today!
Mercury turns retrograde: Mercury, currently transiting organized, business-minded Capricorn, will appear to head backward in the heavens until January 25. Vehicles or technical equipment might break down, and often we experience global glitches in all our information systems. Use the coming three weeks to make unprecedented headway to organize the business of your life. It might be easier than usual to finish your taxes early. Try not to sign contracts until Mercury turns direct again.
Mars in Libra square Mercury in Capricorn: This square adds a major boost of energy, or conflict, in regards to the Mercury gone retro. There are often accidents or travel frustration associated with delays, always a possibility when Mercury turns retrograde, and Mars only adds fuel to those fires. Now that you know, you can stay calm amidst the chaos that surrounds you.
Wed January 6
Epiphany: Today marks the completion of what are called the High Holy Days that began at Winter Solstice. Be open to a sudden insight, gift or clue that has special meaning to you. The signs are there if you are paying attention.
Moon/Venus/Saturn in Scorpio square Neptune in Aquarius: The always driven, obsessed, delving Scorpio Moon aligns with Venus ~ what we love and value ~ and squares Neptune in Aquarius ~ our compassionate nature. Some today might feel threatened or jealous of a friend or be dealing with some control issues. That’s just the nature of this astrological beast. Seek and find forgiveness or finally let it go, that’s also an option today. Potentially, there is important news in your financial world as well.
Thu January 7
Jupiter in Leo turns retrograde: It’s a huge deal for planet Earth when Jupiter, the largest planet in our local solar system, shifts directions. It can feel like a gravitational halt, putting a temporary hold on your plans (I feel that only happens if it’s not in your best interest to move forward yet). Or you can feel a confident shift that will help you refocus on your inner self to harness the powers you need to make your project or plan go forward. Jupiter will turn forward again on May 9.
This Jupiter cycle is particularly dynamic for our planet as Jupiter will be making a rare alignment with the North Node, ruler of our future directions. In addition, as Jupiter is in sidereal Leo, the sign of creativity, art, play, joy, children, this promises to be a very creative time for you and your children.
Sun in Sagittarius square Uranus in Pisces: This one day happening can bring about a sudden shift in your emotional plans or manifest as a true stand-off between what you think ~ Sagittarius ~ and what you feel ~ Pisces. The best resolution will arrive if you just keep working the process. Often an unexpected surprise can arrive when Uranus is in the mix.
Fri January 8
Venus/Saturn conjunction in Scorpio: This is a consequential day in regards to your finances and intimate relationships, both aspects of Scorpio and Venus. The alignment with Saturn brings both a serious tone of commitment, or ending commitments, depending on what your life is asking of you.
Balsamic Moon: This day in our monthly lunar cycle always marks a time of resting, relaxing as we complete the extremely dynamic SolLunar cycle that brought us to this New Year of 2016. May you take a moment, pause, reflect, celebrate the gift of your life as it is now. And remember your superpower to reinvent your life by daily choices to something entirely new, entirely you.
The card that oversees my writing desk on my creative retreat has a playful illustration of Ganesh, the Elephant-headed god who helps us overcome all perceived obstacles. And the words on the card are these: “Little by little, step by step, it happens.”
Blessings of Joy and Creation to you in 2016.
