Last Quarter Moon
“Communal Protection” photograph by Kari Erdman
As we are still experiencing the Sun’s annual transit through family oriented Cancer, here’s a lovely photograph by my beloved friend Kari Erdman of a communal community of Aspens that literally share a common root system. This week, there may be subtle or overt tensions that rise to the surface, especially in our family constellations, due to transits involving forceful Mars.
Also this week, we enter the completion phase of this SolLunar cycle. This is the quadrant of the cycle that symbolizes completions, sometimes a time you might experience deep tiredness (honor the need for rest), and oftentimes a choice of direction needs to be chosen. But because Venus is still in retrograde till Sept 6, leaving out-going Leo and re-entering private Cancer, you may choose to keep some of those internal musings to yourself, or share only with your closest people as you continue re-evaluate, discover what life might next be asking of you.

Here is a description of the qualities of the Last Quarter Moon phase compliments of my friend and sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza (http://www.lunarplanner.com/):
“This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. A sense of completion comes forth with a recognition that the past scenario has served its purpose and it is time to leave what is antiquated behind. Essentially a lesser self is what we will be shedding. It is now time to plow under the crops so they may become the fertilizer for the next cycle. This is a transformational time, a time for personal change. Step forth from old facades, and free yourself from past ways of participating in life. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Not making the realized changes keeps ourselves bound in a circle of old patterns of growth; changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.

Please note: I make my posts according to the Lunar cycles, posting on the New, First Quarter, Full and Last Quarter Moons. My hope is to support you to work with and within the natural flow of time, the Thirteen Moons of each year, which can help your life flow with more ease and grace. Also, I base my interpretations and predictions on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. Thu August 6
Last Quarter Moon: The independent, even aggressive, Aries Moon makes a waning square to the Sun in Cancer. This dynamic might trigger a decision, manifest as a willingness to take a risk, or arise as a desire to try to force someone to follow your will. Be the boss of yourself, not others, and in so doing, you will lead by example.
Sun in Cancer inconjunct Pluto in Sagittarius: This aspect can call up power issues within family structures (keeping in mind all members of a community are like a family) as members each want to exert their will, possibly by coercion. Or here’s an idea: present an even better informed idea or solution so others will naturally get on board.
Mercury/Venus retrograde conjunction: Speaking your heart’s truth, pure and simple, is the main attribute of this lovely alignment.
Mercury/Jupiter in Leo square Saturn in Scorpio: Ouch. We feel a tad serious, even down right momentarily depressed as the ruler of our minds ~ Mercury ~ high on it’s steroid conjunction with Jupiter ~ makes a tense square to Saturn. Mercury rules our vehicles, computers, technology so you may have some kind of breakdown in those arenas. Also, where I live, I have seen crazy driving yesterday and today…four major accidents in two days time….also a manifestation of this challenging square. Slow the heck down so as to avoid costly repairs.
Fri August 7
Mercury/Jupiter conjunction in Leo: This lovely alignment creates a flurry of communication, an outpouring of writing. Big egos may be crashing and burning, and more vehicular accidents remain a possibility today as people are over-confident, even arrogant about their skills.
Mars in Cancer opposite Ceres in Capricorn: Mars always likes to move, to take action, and feels passionate in both the joyful sense but also in an angry righteous sense. This aspect can be highly volatile in already volatile family environments as Cancer rules family formations. Ceres ~ nurturing, caregiving ~ is in Capricorn. Both these signs govern parenting. This alignment is wonderful for doing activities together, but don’t be surprised if no one wants to be told what to do by another. Inspired activism and celebration on behalf of the land, agriculture, environmental issues is also happening today.
Moon in Taurus opposite Saturn in Scorpio: Wonderful for sensual and sexual contact with possible tension arising about how people want to express/receive intimacy. Your financial life might also require some attention today.
Sat August 8
Moon in Taurus opposite Pallas Athene in Scorpio: This aspect bodes well for our annual Art Fair here in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Artists will be doing very well as Pallas Athene is the ruler of creativity and the Moon in Taurus makes people feel they absolutely need to have that beautiful object as Taurus loves ownership and beauty. Splurge, at least a little today. Money spent on art and beauty is money very well spent!
Sun August 9
Moon in Taurus sextile Sun in Cancer and Uranus in Pisces: This aspect feels like taking a leisurely float down a favorite river, or sauntering slowly up a mountain trail near a creek. Earth and Water are the elements of calm and nurturing. Imbibe in the beauty of nature, feel bathed in the never-ending nourishment our beautiful Earth feeds us with every moment of every day.
Mon August 10
Moon in Gemini squares Lunar Nodes: This is a good day to use Gemini’s curiousity, research skills, investigative nature to explore options leading you toward a future goal that’s started to intrigue you. Perhaps it’s learning a new language, planning a trip, deciding how to organize your book/website/blog project.
Tue August 11
Mars sextile North Node: Active Mars makes an exciting sextile to the North Node which guides your future destiny. It will be easy to take positive steps toward some desired goal, person, path that excites you.
Wed August 12
Mercury in Leo opposite Neptune in Aquarius: This highly inspiring aspect of mental Mercury in creative Leo activating Neptune in community minded Aquarius makes for visionary collaborations or teaming up your artistic skills with those around you. This aspect can also make you feel quite spacey today, so keep an eye on your possessions, car keys, etc, you don’t end up wasting your day looking for lost items.
Moon/Mars conjunction in Cancer: There’s a chance this aspect creates moments of tension within family members. Moon rules our emotions and Mars is impulsive at times. You will tend to very physically animated in expressing your emotions today.
Thu August 13
Sun in Cancer trine Uranus in Pisces: This lovely aspect might bring surprising, innovative alliances or solutions into your life, into our world. This aspect invites you to take a leap of faith.
Venus retrograde re-enters sidereal Cancer: I’ve been writing about the current Venus retrograde cycle as a time to reflect more deeply on how you might come into greater alignment with your deepest heart longings. But first you might have to discover and articulate what that means to you. As Venus temporarily returns to interior Cancer, take time to explore this via your private journal, with a dear friend you absolutely trust, with a trusted elder/guide/teacher. Use the wisdom of their life experience to help inform your contemplations.
Balsamic Moon: It’s a dying Moon, meaning the last tiny sliver of the Moon in this SolLunar cycle is about to merge once again with the Sun at tomorrow’s New Moon. This is the time in the monthly cycle to take some time to rest, reflect. Practice doing nothing. Practice just being, it’s actually great for your well-being.
