Full Moon in Capricorn/Cancer
“Manzanita” photo by Lyn Dalebout
This virile Manzanita grabbed my attention on an early morning desert hike last week. It is the perfect Earth oracle for how I’ve been feeling during this Mercury retrograde cycle which is about to complete this week. Yes! Notice how the new wood and bark on the Manzanita bush grows parallel with the old growth in a dramatic and contrasting way. It’s living, botanical and biological proof that life goes on, as new branches build upon the growth and death of previous years.
It’s a fitting metaphor for me as 2016 begins to reveal its gifts. There are days I feel like a husk of my former self, while also feeling a surging rebirth as my next incarnation is rapidly taking hold of me. This recalibration (that’s how I feel this) to the new energy field, a new life, can feel quite confusing and disorienting at times. I remind myself, often, things are naturally unfolding, just as they need to, and my most important task is to have patience and trust, and continue to listen for clues as to how to proceed. It’s good advice to take more time for self-reflection, rest in the month of January, for soon, very soon, you might feel suddenly thrust into increased activity.
This week’s astrology mirrors the first signs of spring’s stirrings with some important creative aspects arriving on the scene. Mercury will return to direct motion, still in synch with resurrection Pluto. And Mars makes a once-every-two-years conjunction with the partnering asteroid of Juno, which might bring supportive alliances into your life. Read on~

Here is a brief synopsis of Full Moon characteristics that hold true to every Full Moon. Thanks again, Nick Anthony Fiorenza ~ lunarplanner ~
“The Full Moon marks the point of coition in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement, a time of celebration. The day just after the Full Moon is a time for the realization of the theme to emerge, of what the activities of the first half of the lunar cycle, culminating into the enthusiasm of the Full Moon, are really about. Relax and allow this realization to occur. There is no need to force it as it surfaces on its own.”
Please note: I make my posts according to the Lunar cycles, posting on the New, First Quarter, Full and Third Quarter Moons. I seek to support you in working with and within the natural flow of time and energy, which will help your life flow with more ease and grace. Also, I base my interpretations and predictions on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. The Full Moon in sidereal Cancer, compliments of StarWalk2.
Sat January 23
Full Moon: Sun in Capricorn and Moon in Cancer: From the sidereal (true astronomical alignment) perspective, the Sun is in the early part of Capricorn, associated with retreats, sanctuaries and secret government facilities. The Moon is transiting home-loving Cancer. You might be feeling more of a desire to celebrate this Moon either at home, by yourself, or in a more close knit group. Interesting how the epic winter storm hitting our East Coast today will make that a necessary choice for many. I love it when the weather grabs the headlines, and when earthly events closely mirror celestial events. As Mercury is still in retrograde (the mind turned inward), go within during this very potent Full Moon and receive clarity and insights that might rock your world.
Sun January 24
Moon in Cancer square Mars/Juno in Libra: This aspect can create a bit of tension on the home/relationship front as that’s the nature of an astrological square. Squares also support setting your body/mind/spirit to something and following through. Mars wants to take action and engage, yet the Cancer Moon can be more private, often manifesting as one partner wanting to converse and interact while the other party seeks privacy, interiority. This might be especially true between parents and children. Allow for all to take their space today.
Mon January 25
Mercury turns direct: This forward moving transit can spark breakthroughs or a surge of mental creativity. If you keep a journal, find some time to re-read the events you chronicled about life and important dreams in the previous three weeks. As Mercury, known for being a guide for souls between the worlds, is still aligned with Pluto (associated with death/completions), this period included the passing of beloved pets and partners, and this may continue for the coming two weeks. Move and drive with greater caution in the coming week so as to avoid accidents.
Mars/Juno conjunction in Libra: This aspect will mirror new alliances, projects, partnerships entering your life. Mars takes two years to traverse our entire zodiac, so today marks a birth point to consciously set in motion a two-year plan. This may involve teaming up others, or team up with yourself and commit to complete long-standing creative projects that you are entirely qualified to finish. Use the confidence and ‘fire in the belly’ of Mars to get it done.
Tue January 26
Moon in Leo opposite Neptune in Aquarius: This fun-loving aspect is embedded in the context of the previous events I’ve written about. The Leo Moon calls forth your need to play, to make time for art, to simply enjoy life for life’s sake. Say thanks for the many gifts that are flowing to and through you so as to increase the joy and abundance in your life. It’s easier to do under the Leo Moon.
Wed January 27
Moon/Jupiter/North Node conjunction in Leo: May you experience the exuberance of this monthly alignment today. The emotive Moon aligns with enthusiastic Jupiter, and the North Node ~ feeling hopeful about your future. You might feel those sprigs of spring sprouting in your heart and art. Be a clown, a trickster, frolic and skip like a kid. It can do wonders to help you to shift out of a bad mood or moment of stagnation. This is a good mood kind of day, and, you might be prone to excess, too. So sometimes this aspect puts an end to behaviors that no longer serve you.
Thu January 28
Moon in Virgo square Venus in Sagittarius: This hard-working, visionary-driven aspect helps you sort through the way you can practically bring your inspired idea down to Earth. Exercise, move your body, shift your diet are also possible choices today.
Sun in Capricorn semi-sextile Neptune: This aspect is a ‘ditto’ to my above comment. Capricorn calls forth the ambitiousness to do your best and Neptune is the ruler of our ideals, compassion, creativity. The sextile aspect is exciting and optimistic. It’s a great day for philanthropy. Link your business goals with social movements you support, or donate a portion of your profits to a cause you care about.
Fri January 29
Mercury conjunct Pluto in Sagittarius square Moon in Virgo: If you navigated some kind of crisis last week when these two first aligned, and if you faced up to what was going on at that time, today you might experience the fruits of that honesty and courage. Or perhaps now you will feel the return of courage, having been temporarily blindsided by some trauma or awareness that came forth. It’s like our mind-field got purged under this aspect, weeding out old ideas, beliefs, unproductive ways of seeing the world. And as Mercury is now in forward motion, you too can move forward with your next steps with renewed clarity. The Moon in Virgo inspires healthy choices, realistic solutions, engaging in healing modalities like a good massage. Seek out what is supportive to you today.
Sat January 30
Venus in Sagittarius sextile Neptune in Aquarius: This sunny aspect lights up Saturday with increased desire to get outside, make plans for a future adventure, team up with like-minded colleagues for a day of fun or envisioning. Gather together with your tribe and make vision boards together.
