Last Quarter Moon
“In the Quiet” painting by Alissa Davies
There can always be an edginess, extreme tiredness, and anxiety when the Sun and Moon square off. However, this week promises to be a bit on the calmer side in terms of the astrological outlook. The big news comes on Friday when wildly original, erratic and revolutionary Uranus turns retrograde until December 29. We have all been pushed to consider taking creative risks since the beginning of 2016, and now we will reorient and reorganize our lives so as to live those possibilities in the coming years. Await promising opportunities to show up that your invisible intentions have already set in motion. Leap when they appear, as spontaneity is part of Uranus’s modus operandi.
Thank you, wise Alissa, for allowing me to post your series of paintings over the course of this SolLunar cycle. You can read Alissa’s Artist Statement at the end of this post.

Here is a description of the qualities of the Last Quarter Moon phase compliments of my friend and sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza at Lunar Planner:
“This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. A sense of completion comes forth with a recognition that the past scenario has served its purpose and it is time to leave what is antiquated behind. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.”
Note: I write my posts according to the Lunar cycles, posting on the New, First Quarter, Full and Third Quarter Moons. If you work with and within the natural flow of time, the 13 Moon cycle, your life will flow with more ease and grace. My interpretations and predictions are based on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. Tue July 26
Moon/Ceres in Aries square Sun in Cancer: Both Cancer and Ceres are about the desire to nurture what we love and care about. Today’s Moon/Ceres in Aries speaks to honoring your need for self-nurturing, while Sun in Cancer speaks to nurturing the needs of your family and tribe. There might be a tension in deciding which is the most pressing need and necessity today. It’s also a great day to take your elders out for an adventure, so they can celebrate their youthful spirit, no matter the age of the body.
Moon/Ceres in Aries sextile Pallas Athene in Aquarius: This is an excellent aspect for organizing anything. Even ‘herding cats’ to get with the program can be easier today.
Wed July 27
Mercury in Leo trine Uranus in Aries: Mercury has just entered playful, artistic, party-loving Leo. Today this planet of thinking and ideas makes a happy trine to eccentric, original Uranus. It’s an excellent day for strategizing solutions and thinking way outside any previous limiting box. Make time for your art and breakthroughs will naturally emerge.
Moon in Aries trine Pluto/Jupiter: This Grand Trine in sidereal fire signs ensures an easy flow of creativity, purpose, power, enthusiasm to get any job done, and is also excellent for feeling exceptionally athletic.
Thu July 28
Moon in Taurus square Mercury in Leo opposite Mars in Scorpio: The Moon governs emotions, Mercury oversees the mind, and Mars represents physical passion and drive. When all three planets make a manifesting, tense square, many people will have a profound need to speak their truth, stand their ground, stop any abuse, and muscle though any challenge. It’s a day to be driven and focused. Have a goal so this energetic doesn’t turn to pent-up frustration, anger, or accidents.
Fri July 29
Uranus turns retrograde: Anytime Uranus halts it’s forward movement and turns retrograde (until December 29 which will also be a New Moon!), shocking events, accidents, sudden shifts, and breakthroughs are all possible. Because slow-moving revolutionary Uranus (approx~86 year cycle) is currently conjunct even slower-moving disrupting Eris (approx~500 year cycle), this particular Uranus turning point makes for high-drama, unexpected outcomes, and disruptive behaviors, including sudden violence and nervous breakdowns for those who are already unstable and on the edge.
I don’t mean to sound dire, but all this means is we are learning to live and cope with uncertainty in a entirely new ways. Safety comes from within us, not from outside us, and we each are responsible for ensuring our own safety. The key to surviving and thriving these times is to make sure you stick to your daily centering, grounding, spiritual, healthy routines so you are a zone of calm in these turbulent times. Commit to your practice, or you might pay a heavy price in the coming months.
Mercury/Regulus square Mars in Scorpio: The regal star of Regulus always calls forth absolute integrity to self, following one’s heart directive, and never telling a lie. Today, some who haven’t been so truthful might be called to task, and power grabs and hanky-panky can be uncovered and exposed in relationships, including in businesses, organizations, institutions.
Sat July 30
Moon/Vesta conjunction in Gemini: This gregarious aspect is book-devouring, travel-loving and helps us find the words to express our emotional truth. It’s a great day to buy a new journal and commit to a writing practice. It is information-seeking so browse the internet for travel deals or new information that has piqued your curiosity. You might also find yourself extremely focused on one task for a short time, then suddenly flit to a new task, equally focused. You can be a masterful multi-tasker today.
Sun July 31
Moon in Gemini trine Neptune in Aquarius: This is aspect of friendship and collaboration is highly social. You might travel to see a friend or meet with with a group of friends to travel, hike or boat together. Trade books, start a book group, ‘friend’ a new friend.
Venus in Leo trine Uranus in Aries: Emotional breakthroughs are possible with this lovely aspect that takes place in the evening hours. Venus governs our heart and Uranus supports taking risks as well as encouraging absolute authenticity. It’s easy to love your quirks today, realizing they are what make you one of a kind.
Mon Aug 1
Sun in Cancer trine Saturn in Scorpio: This annual supportive trine brings a natural ability to stay focused and disciplined today. As both planets are in water signs, sharing deeper emotional secrets or desires is easier.
Double Cancer Balsamic Moon: We end this SolLunar cycle with both the Sun and Moon in homebody, interior, private Cancer. Gather with those your consider family and nurture one another. You might also be craving comfort food today and tomorrow. Give over to your indulgence.

Here is Alissa Davies’s Artist Statement: “Motherhood is an electrifying journey. It is more complex and richly layered in a myriad of emotions than I ever imagined it would be. Being a mother has enriched my art with a greater need to create and get closer to a more primal source. My work emerges from an intuitive place, while intermingling with my knowledge of color theory, composition, and painting techniques. Working large forces me to dance with the paint and allow images to emerge as needed. Finding flow is what my creative process is based in, while paying homage to painting “rules” that make a piece interesting to a viewers eye. I am interested in the interplay of form and the harmony of colors, while being true to the organic forming of shapes and textures as the painting progresses. Through my work, I strive to bring light to the fact that motherhood is not always a Hallmark experience; that joy, wonder, and love are woven together with hardships, sacrifice, and sadness.”
