Kola
“Cola Bear” by Lyn Dalebout
Your ‘kola’ is your ‘friend’ in the Lakota language. I did not know that when I named my pup Cola Bear in August 1994. She had a chestnut black coat and she padded like a bear on her big furry paws, even as a tiny cub I could carry in the palm of my hand. The above pictures show the essence of her being. She was wild, always. Playful, eternally, her Gemini Sun. Focused and intense, her Scorpio Moon. Yes, as a curious astrologer, I did the chart of my dog.
Even though I attempt to write weekly about the larger galactic historical cycles influencing us all, part of writing a blog is that it is meant to be personal. That’s the theme of this week’s post.
This past week, for some reason, I have been crying boatloads of tears for my beloved Cola. She was my black Golden who left my side six years ago after being my constant companion for fifteen years. I could blame it on Uranus on the South Node, which I wrote about last week. That aspect was all about deep releases from our oldest ties, traumas, even karma.
Have you been crying a boatload of tears this past week or experiencing a chaotic dreamtime? If you have, you are not alone. I thought I was alone, but then my friends and clients confirmed they too were having some strange unexplainable releases, especially in the dead of night, when the unconscious is more visible, more vulnerable, unescapable. This energetic continues this week.
Perhaps all this poignancy is arising because Mars in Aquarius ~ passion about tribe/friends ~ is about to align with Chiron ~the wounds and joys of love. And on Sunday we will experience the always welcomed annual Venus/Neptune conjunction, also in Aquarius, the sign of kolas.
Cherish the memories of past relations, ask for forgiveness for shortcomings, knowing gratefully that all is forgiven in the bigger picture of Love. It is key we release ourselves from grief, doubt, sadness, somehow thinking we’ve failed. We need to find acceptance that what we survived was essential to becoming the very essence of who we are now. And truly all was meant to be. In embracing that awareness, Grace will come, can come, and will set us free.
In a synchronistic coincidence, the asteroid Juno ~ ruler of our core partnerships and alliances ~ plays a major role this week astrologically, just as the historic storm ‘Juno’ will be ferociously pummeling the east coast of the United States.
Please note: I use the true sidereal astronomical alignments in my predictions. You can read about this kind of astrology at this link: https://www.earthwordskyword.com/astrology-readings/astological-readings/

Today’s independent and initiating Aries Moon makes a First Quarter Square to the organized Capricorn Sun. This aspect makes for a very dynamic productive day, with some moments of arising impatience, wishing you were further along than you are, concerning some aspect of your life. Patience, grasshopper.
Tues Jan 27
That fired up Aries Moon makes a volatile square to enthusiastic Jupiter, amplifying whatever you want to amplify, your choice. You can start a destructive inferno you will regret…or…..your choice. Mercury, still in reflective retrograde makes a positive sextile to Uranus, sure to stimulate creative thinking, out of the box solutions. Today, Mercury aligns with Sualocin, the Dolphin Star. This star is linked with calling us Home (in the spiritual sense) or bringing us back to the shores of safety, as Dolphins do, when we have become temporarily lost. You can find new bearings today, if you will listen to your inner sonar. And since activist Mars squares strategist Pallas Athene, you might be forced to put that guidance to some kind of test run. It’s a test run. Mercury will align with Sualocin again on February 28, after the completion of the retrograde, and that might be a better time for final decisions.
Wed Jan 28
Today is a good day to organize your finances, talk to your stock broker or banker as the financial Taurus Moon opposes Saturn in Scorpio. When the emotional Moon is aspected by serious, realistic Saturn, you might have to face an uncomfortable reality. It’s all good. Just deal with it, no running away today.
Thu Jan 29
The superstorm Juno has most likely passed, but today our bright Sun makes an annual opposition to the asteroid of Juno, guide and guardian for our core relationships. This is certainly a great day to celebrate your marriage or beloved partner in some way. Or create a ceremony, calling in what you desire to manifest in terms of both personal and professional partnerships. And as the commitment-minded Venus/Saturn square is building to an exact alignment overnight and into tomorrow, I imagine some are making new vows to another.
Fri Jan 30
Most of the action of today takes place from midnight to sunrise, so you might be awake, be awakened, in the wee hours of the morning. Retrograde Mercury makes an exact conjunction with the Sun, which functions like a portal of genius and brilliance alighting those who are paying attention. Will you be one of those paying attention? The Venus/Saturn square can manifest as a feeling of wanting to fully commit to something you love, long to create, desire to be. Spend the day absorbing and integrating all that transpired in the illumination of night.
Sat Jan 31
This most important, once every two years, conjunction of Mars and Chiron takes place today. This aspect can create healing alliances or highlight unresolved wounds and conflicts. And that’s exactly what we may witness on the world stage, and perhaps in our personal relations. In addition, retrograde Mercury opposes Juno, and so the negotiations continue, making way for final solutions when Mercury opposes Juno for the final time on February 19. Don’t rush to conclusions, solutions. Research, reflect, reconsider…such is the wisdom of Mercury retrograde.
Sun Feb 1
It is a great day to spend time with your kolas, as our two planets most known for love and lovers, Venus and Neptune, align in friendship Aquarius. This aspect is also a vast and beckoning portal of art, creativity, compassion as well, so drink of the well of your heart and all its miracles, hopes, desires, dreams.
