Full Moon Penumbral Eclipse in Pisces/Virgo
“Whale Magic” detail of painting by Sue Ewald Cedarholm
It’s the week of a Full Moon Eclipse, taking place with the Sun in sidereal Pisces (ruler of the ocean’s mysteries) and the Moon in Virgo (health coach for our Earthly lives). It is called a Penumbral Eclipse because the Sun, Earth and Moon are not in a straight line alignment. You might feel wobbly physically and emotionally as you experience the effects of this revealing alignment reverberating throughout our planetary field.
This Full Moon is also aligned exactly with Mercury, bringing a clarity of thought to everyone, and also with the Dwarf Planet Makemake. Here is short excerpt from my friend and sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza, that describes the meaning this planetary body:
“Makemake, is the Polynesian name for the creator god of humanity in the mythology of the South Pacific island of Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Makemake was recently discovered on March 31, 2005. Makemake appears to bring attention to leadership issues regarding the administration of resources; and in areas involving economics, ecology and human survival. Makemake may also act to sort out those who are truly worthy of being in a leadership role from those who are not.”
That last sentence caught my attention in regards to our current election frenzy.
In addition, there are several more planetary crossings over the South Lunar Node, indicating we are all still deeply immersed in clearing out old debris or completing major phases of our lives. For some, this process might be deeply painful. Others may experience a of joyful enthusiasm as beckoning possibilities emerge. Either way, effort is required to stay positive about the future.
This past week, SeaWorld finally announced they will no longer breed Orcas in captivity, and they will end the circus show that has kept these magnificent Beings imprisoned for decades. Blessings and gratitude to Tilikum, who is nearing his final transition. The unimaginably sacrifices he and so many Animal Others have made so that we might awaken to a shared compassion with our Cetacean friends, is beyond comprehension.
Thank you, Sue Cedarholm/Inspired Wild Designs, for allowing me to use your beautiful Whale painting for this post.

Full Moon in Virgo opposite Sun/Mercury conjunction in Pisces: The real news about today’s Full Moon Eclipse is the exact conjunction of our Sun with messenger Mercury. This can bring turning-point conversations or a sudden intuitive directional shift. They key is harnessing the power of your intuitive side to discern what signs the Universe is delivering right to your door. None are immune to receiving the brilliant guidance coming their way, but listening and acute attention are required. The Moon in Virgo might mean you are gaining clarity surrounding a health issue, or spark a desire to serve the world, out of your joy, at a whole new level.
Jupiter/Saturn square: I will be writing a longer piece about this profound turning point for our world in the coming days. These two planets govern our social orientations and associations and with today’s turning point square, they are nudging us to finish work we started in 2000 and will complete in 2020. What contributions do you desire to give to a world in need? Time to takes steps that are big, broad, bold and unbounded.
Chiron/South Lunar Node conjunction: Yet another turning point today as the healing power of Chiron makes a final crossing to the South Lunar Node, bringing a sense of completion or just plain exhaustion from all you have been working to clear. It’s a great day to treat yourself to some kind or restorative massage or therapeutic joy of choice.
Thu March 24
Mercury in Pisces trine Mars in Scorpio: This supportive aspect can bring welcome financial news. It arouses passion and energy in all communications, hopefully creating dialogue over dissension and discord.
Ceres/Chiron/South Lunar Node conjunction: This dynamic strongly supports healing circles of friends gathering in support of well-being, intentional prayers, launching community-wide programs that will benefit the greater good. Ceres is intimately linked to Earth, so spend time giving thanks for the never-ending abundance and care that Nature so generously gifts us every moment. Commit to ‘living green’ whatever that means to you.
Moon in Virgo activates Pluto/Uranus square: As the healing, work-oriented Virgo Moon brings to completion the core shifts of Wednesday’s extraordinary Full Moon Eclipse, there may be further catalysts and catharsis, the celestial meaning of Pluto and Uranus. Life may not be easy, but is sure exciting. The teaching? Live in the present moment as often as you can. Banish worry, invoke trust.
Fri March 25
Venus in Aquarius opposite Jupiter in Leo: The love field is amplified under this amorous aspect. You might wake up and suddenly want to take a friend to breakfast to share good news, ideas, life plans. Jupiter is abundant and likes to give and receive gifts.
Venus in Aquarius square Saturn in Scorpio: Classic astrology would say this is a challenging financial transit as Venus rules our finances and Saturn in Scorpio makes us get real about our money. Finish your taxes, if that’s needed. Or perhaps you will face challenges, make decisions, in regards to your love life, also Venus’s terrain.
Sat March 26
Sun in Pisces trine Mars in Scorpio: This dynamic aspect can bring courage and vigor coursing through your body, giving you a boost of energy to be used as you see fit. As both are in sidereal water signs, your emotions and intuition will run strong all day long.
Moon/Juno conjunction in Libra trine Neptune in Aquarius: You need to connect with an important person today. Who might that be? They might just show up next to you in the grocery line or reach out to you phone or social media. Be open for important emotional exchanges.
Venus in Aquarius sextile Pluto in Sagittarius: This aspect great for exercising with a friend and having important, discussions about the future.
Sun March 27
Moon in Libra/Scorpio: Not much to report about this Easter Sunday. The emotional Moon is transiting signs linked to relating harmoniously and deeply with others. Easter Sunday honors the expansive gift of resurrection. May you experience that today.
Mon March 28
Moon/Mars conjunction in Scorpio: Expect a ferocity of mood with this monthly alignment. It can make people more edgy or prone to anger. It’s also very decisive, if you need to decide something. Workouts can be extra vigorous or competitive. Push each other to greater performance and goal-followthrough.
Tue March 29
Venus/South Lunar Node conjunction in Aquarius: This marks the finale of planets transiting the South Lunar Node (leaving your past behind), at least for a few days. Today it will be Venus making the crossing, planetary ruler of love, art, values, personal wealth. A great day to call a friend, Aquarius’s influence, and discuss your past, past loves, and share the gratitude that comes with endings and new beginnings.
Mercury in Pisces trine Saturn in Scorpio: This aspect brings nice discipline and focus to your mind and handling the logistics of life. As both planets are in water signs, which govern our emotions, savor the good feelings that accompany accomplishment. Pat yourself and another on the back or share emotional xoxox’s.
Moon/Saturn conjunction in Scorpio: As you probably recall by now, this monthly aspect brings a serious tone to the day because both planets are transiting delving, investigative, sometimes paranoid Scorpio. It can feel like a grey, overcast day or call forth a dynamic, clearing thunderstorm.
Wed March 30
Venus/Chiron conjunction in Aquarius: Under this influence, forgive everyone everything. An old beloved might reappear back to discuss past wounds and bring about a helpful healing. We all carry deep wounds and inspired stories of healing. Share your vulnerability today.
Mercury in Pisces square Pluto in Sagittarius: When Mercury and Pluto interact, communications get super intense and the mind can become obsessive. So use this dynamic toward researching something, learning something, sharing your deeper secrets with another.
