New SolLunar Cycle in Scorpio
“Light Upon Light” detail of painting by Susan Pitcairn
Our New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Scorpio marks the time of year to make peace with the literal or metaphorical darkness. Rather than run from the shorter days and longer nights, it is natural to need more sleep, to want to spend time contemplating of your life, to feel somewhat serious even down, to go down to embrace stillness and quiet, just like our Earth. All comes to light as we head toward the darkest night. This New Moon takes place as Mars squares Pluto, a fierce and fighting aspect that can lead to very direct confrontations and exposes about abuses and bullying, all good news for a planet in need of justice and fairness for all.
It will also be time for the final Mercury retrograde of 2017 (more on this in my Full Moon post in two weeks). This entire cycle encompasses what is called the Mercury shadow period from November 14, 2017 – January 10, 2018, with the actual retrograde from December 3 – 22. The focus of this cycle will be on elevating/aligning the mind with universal principles of truth, futuristic thinking, extraordinary vision.
And here’s some good news about Jupiter in Libra in trine to Neptune in Aquarius. This inspiring, uplifting, creative aspect begins its three-part transit on December 3, will return in May 2018, and complete in August 2018. It is a cosmic gift arriving in the nick of time to help our beleaguered humanity remember goodness, kindness, love, compassion are the glues that hold the Universe together. No different here on our Earth.
Lastly, I am reposting and adding to my insight about how this upcoming SolLunar Cycle is about Moving Forward. Perhaps it will be helpful to you. I would like to share this awareness that came to me in regards to the series of SolLunar Cycles we are transiting and how they each build upon the challenges and gifts of the previous one. The Total Solar Eclipse of August 21, 2017 provided the cosmic impetus and energy to dramatically shift to a new level of life experience calling us forth. It was the Opening. The New Moon of September 19 was about Moving Out of our old lives/intentions in some way based on the clarity that followed the Opening. The New Moon of October 19 was about Moving On, grounding in the new foundation, like setting up a new shop or home environment or inhabiting a more expansive heart space. The current SolLunar Cycle beginning November 18 will involve Moving Forward, now having more stability beneath our feet and clarity in our hearts. It is the final full SolLunar Cycle of 2017, bringing to completion this extraordinary year. On the New Moon of December 17, we enter the sacred New Year/Winter Solstice period, best used to celebrate the new beginning, empty out, rest, listen, plant the seeds of intention for 2018
Thank you, Susan Pitcairn, for the gift of using your beautiful paintings for this post. Please check out her website and the multi-dimensional aspects of her very creative life.

New SolLunar Cycle in Scorpio
“Red Rock Reprise” painting by Susan Pitcairn
Here is a list of New Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from LunarPlanner:
“Beginning the Sprouting Phase of the Lunar Cycle, a new theme emerges, a new idea or concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. Often this process is one of discovery, slowly revealing a simple theme over a day or two, or it may be quite clear and specific, even suggesting a major life change. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen.”
Sat November 18
New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Scorpio at 4:40 am MST: Ready or not, it’s that time of year to embrace your deeper nature as Sun (conscious self) and Moon (subconscious desires) align in interior, intense, driven Scorpio. Perhaps you are longing for quiet and solitude to go deep into your own taproot, like many of the plants on Earth do this time of year. Reality must be faced in Scorpio. Either we are happy with our lives and creations, mostly, or it’s time to examine disappointments, despair, regrets about the past, time to go down and in, and make peace with it all. Scorpio is a Water sign, which govern our emotions. Scorpio is linked to ice ~ frozen emotion ~ so you might experience a thaw of old blockages, leading to deep emotional releases. The energy of Scorpio holds out until the very stinger-tail end of a process is researched, making sure every last corner is cleansed, uncovered, healed, before finally moving on, moving forward.
Mars in Virgo square Pluto/Juno in Sagittarius: This slower-moving aspect is exact tomorrow but we’ve been feeling it’s deep churning frustration building last week. Today you might feel edgy, pushy, or determined as Mars (personal will) makes a tense square to Pluto (Divine Will). Given that Juno (key partnerships) is still in the mix, confrontation and truthfulness may occur with personal and professional partners we are currently dealing with. This once-every-two-year square triggers decisions that have been brewing and stewing for a while. This aspect has extraordinary endurance as well so it can manifest as great accomplishments or athletic feats.
Sun November 19
Mars in Virgo square Pluto/Juno in Sagittarius: I repeat yesterday’s post about his aspect, becoming exact, and so more volatile today. This slower-moving aspect is exact tomorrow but we’ve been feeling it’s deep churning frustration building last week.
Moon/Mercury conjunction in Scorpio: Grilling or being grilled is possible. Intense, focused communications are activated by this aspect and it takes hold toward the end of the day leading to an evening full of serious discussions, power plays, a desire for journaling your depths.
Venus in Libra square Ceres in Cancer: This aspect seeks to beautify our home environs, fix things, which also encompasses our relationships within the landscape of home. Squares in astrology can be both productive, solution-oriented, or bring out different ways people approach a problem seeking a solution.
Mon November 20
Sun in Scorpio quincunx Pallas Athene in Aries: More solution-seeking aspects today and this one is particularly good for refining a strategy in conflict resolution. Both Scorpio and Aries are warrior signs, willing to go to battle for others and heart-causes of concern.
Moon/Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius: This truth-seeking aspect brings out that which was hidden and might lead to an ultimatum for some. It is serious and stern in emotional tone.
Tue November 21
Venus in Libra sextile Pluto in Sagittarius: Cooperative and diplomatic, this sextile marks a turn in negotiations or in a relationship for the better, a much needed shift after the recent assaultive energeies of the Mars/Pluto square. Partner up to discuss the raw truths emerging underlying a relationship or in the world.
Moon in Sagittarius sextile Jupiter in Libra: Optimistic and upbeat, this pairing shows up as better options appearing and creates an emotional sense of being supported or motivated by the helpful coaching of others.
Wed November 22
Moon/Pluto/Juno conjunction in Sagittarius: The enthusiasm of this alignment, just prior to Thanksgiving, brings dynamism and focus, as is Pluto’s nature, to key partnerships, gatherings. The Moon rules our emotional needs and when it makes a monthly alignment with partnership Juno, you tend to want meet up with others, engage in conversation, even just by visiting a favorite café and interacting with yet-to-be-made friends. For those of your traveling, you might make an important new connection on the plane/train/cab.
Thu November 23
Moon in Capricorn sextile Sun in Scorpio: This cooperative and resourceful connection is a lovely energy surrounding Thanksgiving gatherings. The influence of the responsible, refined Capricorn Moon might manifest as an extra-special complex table setting or the willingness to take on a more complicated recipe. The Capricorn Moon is also associated with wise elders, so seek out the wisdom of your older family members. Mars is moving toward it’s square to Juno on Monday, November 27, so that aspect might manifest as combativeness in certain interactions over the holiday weekend.
Fri November 24
Mercury in Scorpio square Chiron in Aquarius: This aspect tends to expose our vulnerabilities, either by feeling raw and and being willing to share those feelings, or being caught in an untruth, thus being exposed. You might unintentionally (or intentionally) harm or be hurt by someone’s words.
Venus in Libra sextile Juno in Sagittarius: This peace-making aspect counters the above with a desire to restore harmony in our relationships and provides loving support to a partner in need.
Moon/South Lunar Node in Capricorn opposite Ceres/North Lunar Node in Cancer: This aspect continues to honor the elders in our tribe, an ongoing theme of this Thanksgiving weekend. Seek out stories of the still living, still sparkling Elders, partake of their wisdom while you still can. For some, this aspect can also mark a completion to a life well lived. In addition, respectful conclusions can be brought to recent negotiations. You may have to make a judgment call about a situation.
Sat November 25
Moon in Capricorn square Venus in Libra trine Mars in Virgo: The theme of being aware of the needs of the older members of your family continues. This sky geometry might lead to the need to negotiate how to spend time together, in what activities. Venus in Libra loves art and Mars in Virgo longs for physical activity. Make time for both!

First Quarter Moon
“Stepping In” painting by Susan Pitcairn
Here’s a list of the First Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza ~ www.lunarplanner.com
“The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps to move forth on what you were inspired about…it is time to now participate in trust and knowing. Trust in the process. Demonstrate this trust in physical action and you will be supported. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. Simply, this phase is a time to work.”
Sun November 26
First Quarter Moon: Moon in Aquarius square Sun in Scorpio: Creation potential heats up, especially in terms of collaboration around shared values and interests. Or power plays may come to light. This aspect can deepen a friendship or highlight places of friction, demanding openness and honesty, necessary qualities that create lasting and uplifting relationships.
Moon/Neptune conjunction in sidereal Aquarius trine Jupiter in Libra: If you did have a challenging conversation earlier today, this aspect brings natural warmth and openness to communications especially involving group settings. Neptune rules sleight-of-hand, trying to deceive someone or keep something hidden, so for some, an uncomfortable truth may come to light.
Mon November 27
Mars in Virgo square Juno in Sagittarius: This marks a turning point in any negotiations you might have been engaged with in recent days, be that with a bank, a lawyer, a health-care professional, an ex. Squares imply action needs to be taken to complete the job.
Venus in Scorpio quincunx Uranus in Aries: This passionate and exploratory aspect can bring forth intense, spontaneous encounters throughout the day, possibly leading to taking an unexpected leap in regards to love.
Mercury/Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius: Exact near midnight, this merging of mental Mercury with serious Saturn leads to a focused mind or a feeling of mental heaviness or tiredness. This aspect will return two more times during the upcoming Mercury retrograde period of December 3 – 22, so it’s a good idea to take note of what has captured your mind and imagination today or of important events transpiring today that might require further exploration in the coming weeks.
Moon/Chiron conjunction in Aquarius: Also exact near midnight, this aspect can lead to late-night emotional releases, tears flowing openly. Some might act like victims, needing to blame someone else for their problems.
Tue November 28
Moon in Pisces trine Venus in Scorpio: This aspect provides welcome relief and leads to important changes. The power of these Water signs is to let go and be carried by changes you have intentionally set in motion, regaining trust that the great Mystery of Life, that universal support system, has your back. Visit a favorite water environ today and be taught by water, to merge and soften and flow and especially, allow. Allow the goodness and abundance that is coming your way to enter your life.
Wed November 29
Moon in Pisces trine Ceres/North Lunar Node in Cancer: Continue to enjoy the compassionate and relaxing Moon in Pisces, resting up so you are ready for tomorrow’s fiery energies. The trine to Ceres suggests self-care, like booking a calming massage or conversing with a wise mother figure to help you understand your deeper essence and longings.
Thu November 30
Moon/Uranus/Pallas Athene in Aries opposite Mars in Virgo: Explosive. Exciting. Unpredictable. Shocking. These are a few words to describe this dynamic planetary configuration. Striking out on your own with great courage into brand new territories of creation is all part of Aries’s nature. Mars in Virgo provides just enough caution so you won’t self-destruct or implode with excessive exuberance.
Fri December 1
Mars in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries: This once-every-two-years opposition is a big deal for our planet, and makes for sudden awakenings, bold moves, shocking revelations, and a willingness to break free of conventional wisdom in order to find new solutions. It is erratic and volatile and accident-prone, so drive defensively and un-distracted as possible. It can be anxiety-producing for some.
Moon in Aries opposite Jupiter in Libra: This aspect calls forth confidence and courage and helps bridge opposing views in finding a balanced and fair compromise. It amps up our emotions, creating outbursts of all kinds depending on what you been keeping trapped inside. Tensions can arise between the needs of self versus the needs of others.
Sat December 2
Jupiter in Libra trine Neptune in Aquarius: This inspiring, uplifting, creative aspect begins its three part transit today, and will return in May 2018, and complete in August 2018. It is a cosmic gift arriving in the nick of time to help our beleaguered humanity remember goodness, kindness, love, compassion are the glues that hold the Universe together. No different here on our Earth.
Mercury in Sagittarius turns retrograde tomorrow: Mercury turns retrograde tomorrow on December 3 until December 22. This also coincides with the Full Moon tomorrow, sure to make for an extraordinary day. Things can be delayed (don’t be pushy), machines can breakdown, you may have a sudden intuition to halt a course of action. Listen to your intuition. The Full Moon tomorrow is squaring off with Neptune, making it a particularly magical, fantastical, mysterious, imaginative or delusional portal. Please stay tuned for more in my next post!
