New SolLunar Cycle in sideral Virgo
“Anam Cara” painting by Kathryn Mapes Turner
A new SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Virgo begins as the Sun and Moon come together again, once every 28 days. In this cycle, they will align with the dwarf planet/Earth mother, Ceres. With the focus on Ceres for the upcoming four weeks (which includes the 2018 midterm elections) highlighted issues will be tied to women’s growing leadership in the world, the environment, food, caregiving, the Feminine principle as well as healing shadow issues tied to abuse of women, children, animals, personal lack of self worth, food issues, possessiveness, and the grieving process. In addition, Virgo’s influence can lead to strange but healing intestinal clearings, stomach bugs, digestive struggles so pay close attention to your diet and what your body is desiring in terms of healthy nourishment. As the energies of nature in our northern hemisphere sink deeper into the Earth, settle down, settle into your deeper Self as you allow this year to settle within you. Savor slowing down and honor all you accomplished this year. A sincere clarity of soul and purposeful service can be the outcome of the work of this month long SolLunar Cycle.
And remember this happened last week on October 5: Venus in sidereal Libra turned retrograde. Here’s what I wrote last week:
Venus turns inward to a more reflective phase (retrograde) around noon today, October 5, until November 16, with the shadow period of integration done by December 16. This transit takes place in astronomical Libra as you can see in this diagram.
“Venus and Jupiter in sidereal Libra from Star Walk”
Here are some questions you might want to ponder to use this transit effectively. How do I feel about my relationship to my creativity/artistic goals, to money, to my values/ethics and to all my relationships? How do I want my intimate relationship to be? Am I being treated fairly, treating others fairly, and is there reciprocity in my relationships? How do I bring more balance in to my life in ways that are meaningful for me? Do I have unfulfilled creative goals I am ready to dive into?
And remember to contemplate the most important relationship, the one you have with yourSelf. I recently re-discovered this wise quote from “The Book of Runes” by Ralph Blum which highlights the relationship between orienting to a more ego-based self or aligning with your higher wisdom Self:
“For the Self is the self’s only friend And the self is the Self’s only foe.”
And this: Jupiter enters sidereal Scorpio on October 15 for the next twelve months. Scorpio is a deeply transformational, investigative, power-seeking, secrets-revealing astrological sign. I encourage you to go outside in the dark of night and find Jupiter in Scorpio. See it for yourself. Witness this energy portal in your own way. Experience this transit as you note the physical alignment of a planet with a constellation so as to more fully embody its teachings. This is the ancient, present and futuristic wisdom of working with the astronomically-correct sidereal zodiac. I will be writing much more about this intimidating but exciting shift in the coming weeks and months.
For this SolLunar Cycle, I continue to highlight the paintings of my friend, Kathryn Mapes Turner, one of our living masters of painting on Earth at this time. Please take a moment to view her extraordinary paintings here and her gallery here. Thank you, dear Kathryn.

New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Virgo
“Evening at the Hansen Ranch” painting Kathryn Mapes Turner
Here is a list of New Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from LunarPlanner:
“Beginning the Sprouting Phase of the Lunar Cycle, a new theme emerges, a new idea or concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. Often this process is one of discovery, slowly revealing a simple theme over a day or two, or it may be quite clear and specific, even suggesting a major life change. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen.”

New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Virgo: Sun/Moon/Ceres in Virgo: Sun and Moon come together again (once every 28 days) and align with the dwarf planet/Earth Mother, Ceres. Tue October 9
Moon in Virgo square Pluto in Sagittarius: As Pluto governs the biological body, this influence can bring on an early morning purge or release, including an emotional one. Or you just might wake up in a more judgmental or critical frame of mind.
Moon/Mercury conjunction in Libra: This aspect is suddenly communicative so follow through on instincts to reach out to someone or take that extra moment to connect thoughtfully with someone.
Wed October 10
Mercury in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries: Mercury rules the news and communications of all sorts. Uranus delivers sudden, shocking or surprising messages that can provide a new view. This alignment is also highly creative and intuitive.
Moon/Venus retrograde in Libra square Mars in Capricorn: This aspect brings insightful news or revelations. The Moon crossing Venus in retrograde aids your heart clarity and the square to Mars can create a desire for action. You might want to wait a bit longer before acting as you contemplate what’s next given Venus’s retrogradation until November 16.
Thu October 11
Sun in Virgo square Pluto in Sagittarius: This annual aspect marks important turning points in your life or in regards to our collective history. It supports making better nutritional choices, truthful confrontations.
Moon/Jupiter conjunction in Libra: This monthly buoyant alignment of humongous Jupiter with the emotional Moon brings out optimism and confidence, or can lead to mood swings, and trigger dramatic, even traumatic events.
Fri October 12
Moon in Scorpio opposite Juno in Taurus: Moon in Scorpio can be scowling, serious, or super-determined and focused. The opposition to Juno in Taurus can lead to discussions of finances or business plans in your key relationships, or lead to big purchases. A sextile to the South Lunar Node/Mars encourages releasing the old and embracing the next.
Sat October 13
Moon in Scorpio sextile Ceres/Sun in Virgo: This leads to an easily productive Saturday and also leads to intimate conversations with much being shared about what truly matters.
Sun October 14
Moon/Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius: Sagittarius love adventure and athletic feats, 100% honesty, and can lead to an exceptional ability to focus the arrows of your intention toward what you most desire. The Moon’s monthly hook-up with Saturn encourages you to claim that power instead of falling into doubt or depression (states of mind also associated with Saturn).
Mon October 15
Jupiter enters sidereal Scorpio: Jupiter enters sidereal Scorpio on October 15 for the next twelve months. Scorpio is a deeply transformational, investigative, power-seeking, secrets-revealing astrological sign. I encourage you to go outside in the dark of night and find Jupiter in Scorpio. Venus retrograde/Mercury conjunction in sidereal Libra: This precise and pin-pointed alignment pierces a cloudy, confused mind and brings essential insights to the forefront. Make time for journaling, meditating, a walk with a dear friend so as to harness this moment of heartmind clarity.
Moon/Vesta conjunction in Sagittarius: Like the above aspect, this also enhances your ability to focus on whatever has your attention.
First Quarter Moon
“Trace” painting by Kathryn Mapes Turner
Here’s a list of the First Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza ~ www.lunarplanner.com
“The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps to move forth on what you were inspired about…it is time to now participate in trust and knowing. Trust in the process. Demonstrate this trust in physical action and you will be supported. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. Simply, this phase is a time to work.
Tue October 16
First Quarter Moon: Moon/Pluto in Sagittarius square Sun in Virgo: Pluto’s influence in this already powerful second quarter of our current SolLunar Cycle only amps up that intensity. This can lead to unforeseen consequences, explosive events, cathartic shifts. Even if things are even-keel for you, you might experience this as a moment of fitful temper, frustration or pushy willfulness.
Wed October 17
Ceres in Virgo square Pluto in Sagittarius: Pluto and Ceres are now linked as fellow cosmological travelers as of 2006 when Pluto was demoted and Ceres was elevated in classification ~ both are now considered dwarf planets. But that will most likely change again in the coming years as we humans seek to make sense and label the unfolding mysteries of our Universe. These two powerhouses of ‘what really matters’ help us discern that work ourselves. What really matters to you? Do you spend your time engaged in those activities or are you distracted by the false, the shallow, time-wasting, health-depleting activities? Something to contemplate more deeply today.
Moon/South Lunar Node in Capricorn: As you release the past, you are freed from your past. That is the simple wisdom of this monthly alignment with also creates space for unforeseen possibilities.
Thu October 18
Moon/Mars conjunction in Capricorn: People born with this alignment might be master martial artists, fierce warriors and Wonder Women. Harness the determination of this power to bust through and be aware of lashing out in anger in ways you may regret.
Fri October 19
Mercury in Libra square Mars in Capricorn trine Neptune in Aquarius: This complex aspect is both peace-loving and militarily-strategic. It activates your imagination while also pressuring you to take a stand based upon your aspirations and inspirations.
Sat October 20
Moon/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius trine Mercury/ Venus retrograde in Libra: These aspects unfold over the course of the day and provide a cascading crescendo of connectivity, creativity, joyful communion in community. Acknowledge your many blessings on this day of natural gratitude.
Sun October 21
Moon/Chiron conjunction in Pisces trine Jupiter in Scorpio: This aspect builds throughout Sunday and can lead to big water (like a flood) or big emotion. Consider making it more a day of Being rather than doing.
Mon October 22 – Tue October 23
The energies of these two days set the stage for a breakthrough kind of Full Moon on October 24
Sun in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries: Our Sun is transiting the Scales of Justice and Uranus in Aries carries a strong disruptive, shocking energy, always. So today can bring upsetting news or surprising turnarounds depending on where you stand and what is taking shape in your world. This dynamic both stresses or energizes the nervous system. Get some acupuncture, meditate, do the Qi Gong shaking practice, dance, dance, dance to move the energy in positive ways.
Moon in Pisces square Pluto in Sagittarius opposite Ceres in Virgo: The intuitive, compassionate Moon in Pisces might take an emotional hit today from or help to soften the harsher forces of truth (Sagittarius) and discernment (Virgo) also at work in our planetary field. Environmental crises might erupt or solutions can be addressed in a more comprehensive way.
Happy Full Moon tomorrow!
