Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in sidereal Cancer/Capricorn
“Window Boxes” by Diana Walter
These are spectacularly beautiful celestial times. Currently our local planets are lining up to form a necklace of startling beauty and power across the night sky, beginning at dusk and accompanying us through the night. Right after sunset, we experience the emerald energy of Venus, followed by the diamond of Jupiter, next the sapphire of Saturn, then the ruby of Mars, and all illuminated by the pearl of the brightening Moon. This resplendent planetary parade brings much solace and comfort to me knowing that at some level, all is just as it is meant to be and that there are helpful guiding forces working through us, around us, no matter how dire things may seem.
That being said, holy cow! Are you experiencing waves of stress, anxiety and fear, facing unbearable losses and uncertainty, with exhilaration suddenly appearing in surprising ways. If so, you are not alone.
The event of over-riding importance in this two week period is the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in sidereal Cancer/Capricorn on July 27. We won’t be physically seeing the Lunar Eclipse in America but we will certainly be feeling it’s effects profoundly and it will be one for the astrological record books. Eclipses occur because both Sun and Moon are aligned with the Lunar Nodes which symbolize our past choices and our future directions. That’s why they offer a literal cosmic energetic severing from our past or doors suddenly opening on our future lives. They are magical and also very real in their effects. Eclipses are always about endings and new beginnings. Nick from his Lunar Planner writes: “Lunar eclipses tend to be more emotionally palpable in nature…they are about releasing the emotional bonds within ourselves that glue us to involvements that are less than we truly want or deserve.” Get ready to ride some wild emotional waves in your own life, possibly revisiting emotional/physical issues you thought you had put to rest. The point is to trust the process of what is cleansing and to not attach to the old story but allow the release to wash over you, through you, potentially to be released forever.
The ‘in your face’ energy of this combative Full Moon is created by its linkage to ‘tell the truth’ Mars retrograde (read my notes at the end of this post) and the ties to the Lunar Nodes which always mark turning points from past actions to future focuses. It is a day to tread as lightly as possible, move/drive with caution, and don’t be surprised if surprising shakeups happen in your life. That’s because this Full Moon Eclipse is also in a tense square to disruptive Uranus which is sure to bring surprises and new revelations to all.
Remember, too, that Mercury is still retrograde for the remainder of this SolLunar Cycle. It adds a sense of inward reflection even secrecy to the otherwise volatile planetary mix, as well as helping you focus on your daily centering, calming practices to keep you sane.

Full Moon Eclipse in sidereal Cancer/Capricorn
“Wolf Dream” by Diana Walter
Here is a brief synopsis of the Full Moon characteristics that hold true for every Full Moon from my from my friend and sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza at Lunar Planner.
“The Full Moon marks the point of coition in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement, a time of celebration. The day just after the Full Moon is a time for the realization of the theme to emerge, of what the activities of the first half of the lunar cycle, culminating into the enthusiasm of the Full Moon, are really about. Relax and allow this realization to occur. There is no need to force it as it surfaces on its own.”
Fri July 27
Full Moon Eclipse: Sun/North Lunar Node in sidereal Cancer opposite Moon/Mars/South Lunar Node: We won’t be physically seeing the Lunar Eclipse in America but we will certainly be feeling it’s effects profoundly and it will be one for the astrological record books. Eclipses occur because both Sun and Moon are aligned with the Lunar Nodes which symbolize our past choices and our future directions. That’s why they offer a literal cosmic energetic severing from our past or doors suddenly opening on our future lives. They are both magical and also very real in their effects. Eclipses are always about endings and new beginnings. Nick from his Lunar Planner writes: “Lunar eclipses tend to be more emotionally palpable in nature…they are about releasing the emotional bonds within ourselves that glue us to involvements that are less than we truly want or deserve”. Get ready to ride some wild emotional waves in your own life, possibly revisiting emotional/physical issues you thought you had put to rest. The point is to trust the process of what is cleansing or leaving your life and to not attach to the old story but allow the release to wash over you, through you, potentially to be released forever. This is heartbreaking, challenging work at times and today’s energetic is exceptionally harsh.
The ‘in your face’ energy of this combative Full Moon is created by its linkage to ‘tell the truth’ Mars in retrograde (read my notes at the end of this post) and the ties to the Lunar Nodes which always mark turning points from past actions to future focuses. It is a day be tread as lightly as possible, move/drive with caution, and don’t be surprised if surprising shakeups happen in your life. That’s because this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is also in a tense square to disruptive Uranus which is sure to bring surprises and new revelations to all.
There are defining stars linked to this Lunar Eclipse. My friend and sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza writes: “Altair is of extraterrestrial vision, bringing global perspective to personal interests. In classical astrology, Altair is of military force and power. Altair imparts an administrative and strategist quality and it brings emphasis to the balance of power and pursuit for liberty. Also the Forepaw of the Great Bear… which is to be the protectress, guardian, and nurturer of humanity… inspiring us to become a caring and nurturing force for each other that responsibly supports our emergence from darkness, dogma, and delusion, emergence from the limits and bounds created by selfish, fearful or controlling beliefs, a force that supports us to move into freedom and in greater personal fulfillment.” We can see both of these forces at work in our world on a daily basis.
Venus in Leo trine Pluto in Sagittarius: Venus in Leo, shining brightly in the evening sky, is about following where your heart leads in all matters, be that pursuing a love interest, purchasing something beautiful, or doing what is right for you but might be hard on those around you. This supportive trine to raw-truth Pluto ensures you are willing to release the old ways and pursue a more forth-right approach.
Sat July 28
Sun/North Lunar Node conjunction in Cancer: Building upon yesterday’s extra-ordinary Lunar Eclipse, today’s exact crossing of the illuminating Sun to the futuristic North Lunar Node, creates a decisive momentum working in your favor, if you have been clear about your intentions. This may be more of an internal revelation as Mercury remains in retrograde for 3 more weeks. Time to explore new options.
Moon in Capricorn square Jupiter in Libra: As this serious energetic takes place in the morning hours, it might be best to deal with your responsibilities and chores before playing. Check-in with your elders or children to see what help they may require as the square indicates they may be feeling challenged. If you venture into the mountains or play on the water, use extra caution to ensure safety for all.
Sun July 29
Moon opposite Mercury retrograde in Cancer: The emotional Moon makes a communicative opposition to reflective Mercury which can lead to private conversations exploring countering points of view with family and friends or figuring out how to help someone in crisis. On a more mundane note, you might wash the car, clean out a closet, get stuff ready to take to Goodwill or to pass along to others.
Mon July 30
Venus in Leo square Vesta in Scorpio: This is an excellent aspect for intense, focused play. It also possibly leads to jealousy or control issues between playmates, lovemates.
Moon/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius: This aspect happens tonight and overnight, leading to exceptionally colorful dreams, spiritual insights, intuitive hits about others. It’s great for late night socializing, too.
Tue July 31
Moon in Aquarius opposite Venus in Leo: This friendly aspect is great for exploring collaborations or creating community celebrations. You might feel a tension between having to help a friend in need, but also needing that help and support yourself. There’s plenty of love to go around so just communicate what you need and desire in shared reciprocity.
Mercury retrograde in Cancer trine Vesta in Scorpio: This aspect brings positive emotional support as you move through family issues or grief. You might get good financial news or be better able to focus your mental energy in the directions you desire. Your meditation practice can bring great benefit to you today or you might re-commit to a daily practice.
Wed August 1
Mars retrograde in sidereal Capricorn square Uranus in Aries: Uh oh! This is the second time these two fireballs square off in major tension, heightened anxiety, explosive stand-offs. We are now in the middle phase of the oh-so-challenging Mars retrograde (read below). Things can spontaneously combust with this planetary mix so make sure that won’t happen with flammable mixtures in your garage, home, or at a barbecue. Big shocks on the national front, too.
Moon/Chiron conjunction in Pisces square Saturn retrograde in Sagittarius: You might feel burdened by or helpless in the face of someone’s extreme pain or suffering. You want to help, but there is a limit to what you can do beyond just listening, simply listening, often the best balm you can offer.
Thu August 2
Moon in Pisces trine Sun/Mercury retrograde in Cancer: The compassionate, and at times, grief-filled Moon in Pisces makes a series of helpful trines today which increases the loving-kindness vibration on our planet. Healing conversations with deeper-than-usual listening are part of this aspect along with a heightened degree of intuition.
Venus enters sidereal Virgo: Bright-shining evening Venus enters the refining, perfectionistic, healing energies of Virgo for a few weeks. It will be a good time to focus on health goals, dietary shifts, and boundary-setting with others if need be.
Fri August 3
Jupiter in Libra opposite Juno in Aries: This rare opposition marks a turning point in key relationships, leading to fresh negotiations or completing current contracts. It amplifies polarities between partners while also carrying an ‘opposites attract’ kind of energy between lovers. It can be an upbeat date night for many but for some, a quibble might erupt.
Moon/Uranus conjunction in Aries: This monthly match-up sends up sparks and fireworks that can be either combative, spontaneous, exhilarating, and emotionally freeing.
Last Quarter Moon
“Owl Dreams” by Diana Walter
Here is a description of the qualities of the Last Quarter Moon phase compliments of my friend and sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza at Lunar Planner:
“This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.”
Sat August 4
Last Quarter Moon: Moon/Juno in Aries square Sun/Pallas Athene in Cancer opposite Jupiter in Libra: When a catalytic Last Quarter Moon is intimately linked with other planetary energies, you can be sure it will be a decisive one for the planet. The players in this moment are Juno (governs key partnerships), Pallas Athene (guides our wisdom and strategic plans), and big-hearted, optimistic Jupiter (also full of hyperbole or out of control ego). Look for turning points in relationships, clarity about how to proceed, and possibly over-reacting or being defensive in your posture towards others.
Sun August 5
Ceres in Leo opposite Neptune in Aquarius: This milestone and rare alignment activates human hearts toward greater concern for those in need, including our animal friends and the environment that sustains and nourishes us. It supports the emerging, expanding feminine leadership (from both women and men) in every dimension of society. It manifests as the creation of circles of collaboration to accomplish important goals going forward. Bathe in and absorb this cosmic portal that is benefiting our entire Earth at this time. Send forth your highest vibrations and strongest intentions for the peace on Earth and life, liberty, health and happiness for all beings.
Moon in Taurus trine Mars retrograde in Capricorn: This physically-driven dynamic is great for long walks or slow saunters (use caution to avoid accidents or injury with Mars still in retrograde). Finish projects and nourish your relationships with food and physical touch, Taurus’s delight.
Mon August 6
Sun/Pallas Athene in Cancer square Jupiter in Libra: The annual Sun square Jupiter is often a day of crisis or expansiveness, like spiraling to a new level. This one is extra catalytic as it’s linked to Pallas Athene, goddess of wisdom, the arts, the law, strategy. On both the personal and national fronts, new strategies emerge and battle lines are drawn. An excellent day for organizations to meet and imagine what’s possible as well as launch initiatives to the public.
Moon in Taurus sextile Sun/Pallas Athene in Cancer: This helpful aspect of the productive Taurus Moon enhances the above aspect with physical or financial support or steady, determined energy all day.
Tue August 7
Sun/Pallas Athene conjunction in sidereal Cancer: These two lights have been dancing closely together this past week, and now they exactly conjunct, triggering shifts or getting suddenly clear about plans, goals. Your mind might be extra busy, 24-7, sorting and sifting through issues or solving dilemmas.
Moon in Taurus opposite Vesta in Scorpio: Focus on your finances if need be. Financial/business deals come to a head for resolution or renegotiation.
Wed August 8
Sun/Mercury retrograde conjunction in Cancer square Juno in Libra: It’s another day of enhanced mental brilliance for all as thinking Mercury crosses over the Sun. Since Mercury is still in retrograde (introverted and interior) and they are meeting up in secretive Cancer, insights might arise from deep within you or in private conversations. You may not yet ready to share the news with the outside world which is perfectly fine. This is another portal of passage for those ready to move on.
Moon in Gemini opposite Saturn in Sagittarius: You might feel emotionally torn or down in the dumps today, often part of Moon/Saturn aspects. Also confusion arises as the see-both-sides, indecisive Gemini Moon stands in polarization to serious Saturn, pressuring you to choose. This can be a deadline kind of day for writers, journalists, thinkers. Finish what you have longed to finish.
Venus in Virgo opposite Chiron in Pisces: This opposition offers perspective and solutions to situations that have been upsetting or hurtful to you. Find a way to get beyond being overly-sensitive and discern how to avoid similar challenges in the future by not making assumptions or taking things personally.
Thu August 9
Mercury retrograde/Pallas Athene conjunction in Cancer: The insights and never-ending thoughts keep coming with this extremely brilliant mental portal. This pairing happens at sunrise, so you might jump out of bed ready for action. Or maybe it kept you up much of the night? You are hit with intuitive insights about what’s taking shape around you in within those you are close to, including things others may be trying to hide (Cancer governs secrets). This makes for clarity in organizations about how to tweak existing campaigns/strategic initiatives, or how to handle an employee situation.
Moon in Cancer opposite Mars retrograde in Capricorn: This aspect resonates back to our Super Lunar Eclipse of July 27 as the Moon comes to rest where the Sun was during that time. This can bring further challenges to a head or completions to a close. For some, this offers a portal of passage to another dimensions, if that is what is desired.
Fri August 10
Moon/Mercury retrograde in Cancer: On this last day of this particularly exhausting SolLunar Cycle, the emotional Moon and Mercury retrograde hook up in private, homebody Cancer. You might feel exceptionally tired and decide to stay in for the evening or go to bed early. It is a communicative aspect, however, leading to important conversations. I’m glad we are putting this SolLunar Cycle to bed. Peaceful rest to you and happy New Moon tomorrow!

MARS RETROGRADE NOTES:
Mars in sidereal Capricorn turns retrograde: I’ve been alerting you to this aspect since early May when this aspect began on May 12. On June 26, Mars halts and heads backwards (from Earth’s perspective) until August 27, creating a volatile, perhaps challenging summer. It’s important to keep a cool head when surprising events arise.
It’s hard to find some positive words, but let me give it a go: Mars in it’s highest aspect is about the courage to take a stand based on your beliefs, values, what your most deeply want to protect. While in retrograde, you are examining internally what that means to you, encouraging you to live a life of integrity and a willingness to speak your truth when it comes time. The link to the South Lunar Node, tied to our past history, can be bring up the need to revisit what didn’t get said in the past with the hopes of making amends for one’s mistakes. No transits in astrology are ‘bad’. Some are just more challenging, and therefore, growth-producing, and serve us as giant wake-up calls to our own courage of heart.
Here are a few things I’ve already said, with some additions, about one of 2018’s most important astrological events:
Mars turns retrograde on June 26 until August 27 (however the ‘shadow’ period that defines the whole cycle runs form May 12 – October 8) catalyzing a tornadic portal of change and crisis for many and on the world stage. During the time of it’s retrograde, Mars will also be at perihelion (closest to the Earth) so it will literally and energetically be brighter, redder, bolder, more influential in our planetary field.
Mars turning retrograde implies it’s time to not push or be pushy, but be willing to take things more slowly and examine which direction you might ultimately want to go. Some of you might do a remodel of your space, but don’t be surprised or upset if there are delays in the construction process. Some of you will decide to close up shop for good.
This will be a time for many souls to choose to transition back to Spirit, which is already occurring.
Some of you will slow yourselves down physically by an injury or by choosing surgery during this time frame. Old health issues can heat up again (Mars rules inflammation) as symptoms reappear, forcing you to make the next round of changes, researching and opting for healthier choices and behaviors.
From the collective perspective, this promises to be a time of greater drama and revelation, and going to battle as Mars aligns in forceful Capricorn, ruler of our institutions, businesses and the military. As this Mars retrograde is aligned with the South Lunar Node during the entire cycle, much will be brought to light about past abuses of power on all levels, leading the way to institutional reform.
In addition, many weakened ailing infrastructures will give way, possibly leading to loss of life. We are long overdue in addressing this pressing problem. Time to fix what needs fixing.
Huge earth shifts and changes are possible as well, like the ancient granite rocks of the Grand Tetons suddenly and unexpectedly showing fissures and cracks. Earth Oracles abound. Pay attention!
