ADDED NOTE September 2:I currently live near the McCain family ranch near Sedona, Arizona. Last week, I discovered as the Full Moon was building, I had posted at the moment John McCain left his body and returned to spirit. I share the following story of a sky blessing that occurred yesterday I feel was meant for his family. I was awakened by early morning thunder and lightning, about to get up to watch the full memorial service for John McCain at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. At the exact moment I was watching Cindy McCain place a wreath in honor of her husband at the Vietnam Memorial, a swift, energetic, localized, rare dawn storm cell of hail, lightning, rain and thunder crossed over their ranch at Page Springs. As an observer and believer in the significance of earthly/heavenly synchronicity, I trust this was a sky gift for and honoring of the McCain family. Rest in Peace, John McCain, and thank you for your heroic life of passionate service in which you took your personal pain and suffering and worked to make the world a better place.
My deepest faith and trust in life comes from what I observe from both the Earth and the celestial landscape of the heavens. Currently, there are many transformational and supportive planetary transits at work. Jupiter in sidereal Libra is bringing justice to our world. Mars in Capricorn is helping to both dismantle and reinvigorate our institutions. Saturn and Pluto in Sagittarius are calling forth real truth and visionary solutions. Neptune in Aquarius is awakening compassion and caring for all forms of life. This is where I go for natural information which is my constant source of emerging wisdom, health, vitality, truth. This is the bigger picture that keeps me going through times of doubt and uncertainty.
Good news to report this week. Along with the upbeat Leo/Aquarius Full Moon, both Mars and Saturn leave their retrogrades in this next two week period, offering a sense of palpable relief from challenges of recent weeks and a sense life is moving forward with newfound momentum and possibility.
Thank you, Bear sister and brother, Cathy and Ron Hummel, for allowing me to share your wonderful photographs as the visual accompaniment to this New SolLunar Cycle. Please check out their wide array of fantastic images at Wildlife Visions.

Full Moon in sidereal Leo/Aquarius
“Wingspan” photograph by Cathy and Ron Hummel
Here is a brief synopsis of the Full Moon characteristics that hold true for every Full Moon from my from my friend and sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza at Lunar Planner.
“The Full Moon marks the point of coition in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement, a time of celebration. The day just after the Full Moon is a time for the realization of the theme to emerge, of what the activities of the first half of the lunar cycle, culminating into the enthusiasm of the Full Moon, are really about. Relax and allow this realization to occur. There is no need to force it as it surfaces on its own.”
Sun August 26
Full Moon: Sun in sidereal Leo opposite Moon in Aquarius: Full Moon happens around sunrise, the perfect moment to get up early and set intentions as you watch the Full Moon set and the Full Sun rise. As the Sun is transiting creative sidereal Leo and the Moon sits in futuristic Aquarius, give some attention to how you wish to express and share your personal creative talents. Dream big, be bold in your imagining what is possible for you and for our planet. Given that today is the last day Mars is in its challenging retrograde (see my notes below) the upcoming momentous turning point of that shift is also part of today’s highly charged Full Moon.
In combination with the other two aspects below, work toward keeping your heart-thoughts positive while also observing challenges that arise via old mental patterns or feelings of victimhood rising up in regards to past events. As Mars retrograde continues to cleanse us at the cellular level, much of what is coming up is simply a toxic purging of the past. Under the water-is-life Aquarian Moon, increase your consumption of pure clean water to aid in the body’s natural healing processes.
Venus in Virgo square Pluto in Sagittarius: Pluto’s influence helps us purge the past or manifests as power plays. This challenging square to Venus can bring up complex emotions in your relationships giving you a chance for emotional honesty, speaking the raw truth. Venus in Virgo helps you choose healthier habits, refine your diet, watch your thoughts, communicate your boundaries to others. I like to envision myself as a vibrant cell with a strong protective membrane that is permeable to essential nutrients but also keeps out harmful energies or toxins. Give that visualization a try sometime.
Mercury in Cancer quincunx Neptune in Aquarius: Mercury in Cancer has you ruminating about the past while futuristic Neptune in Aquarius offers the chance for forgiveness and detachment from your old story. Use the quincunx to make adjustments you’d like to make between what has been and what you would like to be.

Mars in sidereal Capricorn turns direct: !!!!!
That’s mostly what I want to write about this event but here’s a little more insight.
Even though astrological events happen to all of us, we all experience them uniquely according to where we are in our lives. This tension-releasing turning point happens in the morning hours and can bring either a strong surge of energy, or, conversely, a sense of bone-tiredness from all you have been through the past three months. Honor your own rhythm and needs on this important day. Take a day off, a wellness day. Or get to serious work on your next goals. Although the relentless churning and cleansing energies of recent weeks might begin to subside, we now enter the ‘mop up’ stage that comes after fire or flood as this entire Mars cycle completes its ‘shadow period’ on October 6. Mars governs our will, will power, call to action, so continue to be aware of that which is leaving your life and the new energies that are coming your way. Where do you want to place your energy on a daily basis? How do you increase, not diminish, your vitality? How do wish be engage as an activist in the world? Just a few questions for this important day.
Mercury in Cancer square Jupiter in Libra: This aspect brings shifts in regards to how you used August’s Mercury retrograde (you can read my previous Signposts to jog your memory). Events like working out details of a contract, clearing out stuff/organizing memorabilia, working with a therapist or counselor might find closure.
Moon/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius: This monthly reunion brings friendly encounters with strangers, reunions with friends and creative collaboration with others.
Tue August 28
Moon/Chiron conjunction in Pisces: As the past two days have been so darn intense, use the gentleness and relaxation of this aspect to flow, chill, sit by water, or maybe meltdown and release pent-up emotions. Some of you might save a pet from a no-kill shelter or visit someone who is suffering.
Wed August 29
Moon in Pisces opposite Venus in Virgo: The caring Moon in Pisces makes a perspective-giving opposition to helpful, healing Venus in Virgo, manifesting as good advice or solutions to help someone move out of a state of victimhood or long-standing inertia.
Mercury in Cancer quincunx Pluto in Sagittarius: This aspect happens late at night leading to secrets shared or inquisitive inquires made as you seek to understand something about the past.
Thu August 30
Moon/Uranus conjunction in Aries square Mars in Capricorn: Now that Mars is out of retrograde, this aspect can send shock-waves through our personal and collective lives, even leading to earth-shifts, earthquakes, accidents. Move with caution while also experiencing the fresh vitality of CHANGE that is entering your life, always Uranus’s gift.
Fri August 31
Moon in Aries trine Sun in Leo: This flowing trine in fire signs is good for initiating new projects or making stress-free progress on current creative endeavors. Take the day for some play, if possible.
Sat September 1
Moon/Juno conjunction in Aries quincunx Venus in Virgo: The monthly pairing of the Moon with relationship asteroid, Juno, tends to bring interactions with others to a head, either for better connection or clarity. Aries is freedom-loving and independent while Virgo often chooses service to others, so tension can arise between those different desires. Make some time for chores but plenty of time for shared adventure, too.
Last Quarter Moon
“Majestic Bull Moose” photograph by Cathy and Ron Hummel
Here is a description of the qualities of the Last Quarter Moon phase compliments of my friend and sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza at Lunar Planner:
“This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.”
Sun September 2
Last Quarter Moon: Moon in Taurus square Sun in Leo: It’s interesting that today’s Last Quarter Moon of completion marks the formal end of summer for the northern hemisphere. Sigh. The productive, work-oriented Moon in Taurus makes a tense square to the play-loving Sun in Leo. Struggles can arise or tension within your own psyche about how to spend your time, on work or recreating, or perhaps a bit of both.
Mon September 3
Ceres in Virgo trine Mars in Capricorn: This aspect is wonderfully productive, healing, passionate, and supportive, so give and receive abundantly today. Throw out those old supplements and teas that are several years old or freshen the fridge with colorful fruits and vegetables. Help an organization in need by volunteering your time and energy.
Mercury in Leo trine Vesta in Sagittarius: This aspect provides sharp focus to your mind, especially with tasks you need to do in solitude, like writing, finishing up important correspondence, meditating on an issue. It can also lead to creative thinking about how to see a situation with fresh eyes, with your heart-mind.
Tue September 4
Moon in Gemini opposite Saturn in Sagittarius sextile Uranus in Aries: This dynamic is very dynamic in terms of mental curiosity, brain-storming, thinking outside the box where you get boxed in by your own thinking. Be innovative in thought and use Saturn’s influence to ground those ideas in practical step-by-step actions.
Wed September 5
Moon in Gemini opposite Pluto in Sagittarius: This can lead to obsessive thinking or being obsessed to complete tasks that require your mental focus. For some, it can lead to paranoid thinking or episodes of mental instability.
Thu September 6
Saturn in sidereal Sagittarius turns direct:!!!!! Another transit to get excited about! Form-giving, restructuring, law-and-order Saturn went retrograde on April 17 and now turns direct again in regards to Earth and earthly happenings. Recall what was changing as part of 2018 in terms of goals, relationships, home, and work. Honor all the hard-work you put in since then to make things happen. Today marks a turning point in forward momentum, but as Saturn moves very slowly, patience is still required. Things are coming to fruition, so stay positive, wise, open and directed. This aspect could be linked to key events linked to the justice system and legal questions.
Mercury/Pallas Athene conjunction in conjunct Regulus in Leo: This highly strategic and mentally-directed conjunction leads to decisive actions as it aligns with the star of integrity and whistleblowers, Regulus. More good news in regards to lies being exposed, truth being revealed, and justice being served. On a personal note, take time to sit quietly and listen to receive messages coming straight from the heart-line of your Being.
Moon/North Lunar Node conjunction: News from your past helps you decide about your future, or someone from your past reappears, or you feel a reckoning and release about issues that have troubled you from the past. The North Lunar Node offers a portal of shift like no other. Time to move forward.
Friday September 7
Sun in Leo opposite Neptune in Aquarius: This annual opposition highlights big-picture thinking, expansive visions, and helps individuals find their true tribes. Give yourself over to your imagination and playful side versus trying to be ‘together’ or organized. Something new is emerging and you want to be available to receive that call, that pull from your future self. It’s easy to mis-place things or veer close to an accident so stay grounded in your body while your mind and spirit reach into deeper levels of consciousness and universal awareness. A truly magical day.
Moon in Cancer square Jupiter in Libra: We tend to feel more emotionally vulnerable, private or moody with the Moon in Cancer. There might be a mini-crisis at home or just the pull to head home early this Friday.
Sat September 8
Venus in Libra square Mars in Capricorn: A square of Venus to Mars marks a turning point in terms of taking actions (Mars) that serve our heart, values, creative goals (Venus). This can lead to relationships ending or beginning, but with a certain trepidation or caution as part of the emotional mix. In addition, Venus in Libra is peace-loving and cooperative, but Mars in Capricorn can be more war-like in its expression. Don’t be bullied by others or let them take advantage of your good heart.
Moon/Mercury/Pallas Athene conjunction in Leo: What an inferno of creative thought this one is. Feelings (Moon) merge with ideas (Mercury) merge with strategic analysis (Pallas Athene). It’s excellent for envisioning the layout of a project or writing/creating for hours on end. As this is the last day of the completing SolLunar Cycle, mark it by finishing tasks if need be or giving abundant gratitude (Leo’s gift) for all the good in your life that has come from meeting the enormous challenges of recent weeks.
Happy New SolLunar Cycle tomorrow!

MARS RETROGRADE NOTES: Even though Mars is complete with its retrograde, the ‘shadow’ period of completion isn’t done until October 6. So these notes are still relevant.
Mars in sidereal Capricorn has been in retrograde: I’ve been alerting you to this aspect since early May when this aspect began on May 12. On June 26, Mars halts and heads backwards (from Earth’s perspective) until August 27, creating a volatile, perhaps challenging summer. It’s important to keep a cool head when surprising events arise.
It’s hard to find some positive words, but let me give it a go: Mars in it’s highest aspect is about the courage to take a stand based on your beliefs, values, what your most deeply want to protect. While in retrograde, you are examining internally what that means to you, encouraging you to live a life of integrity and a willingness to speak your truth when it comes time. The link to the South Lunar Node, tied to our past history, can be bring up the need to revisit what didn’t get said in the past with the hopes of making amends for one’s mistakes. No transits in astrology are ‘bad’. Some are just more challenging, and therefore, growth-producing, and serve us as giant wake-up calls to our own courage of heart.
Here are a few things I’ve already said, with some additions, about one of 2018’s most important astrological events:
Mars turns retrograde on June 26 until August 27 (however the ‘shadow’ period that defines the whole cycle runs form May 12 – October 8) catalyzing a tornadic portal of change and crisis for many and on the world stage. During the time of it’s retrograde, Mars will also be at perihelion (closest to the Earth) so it will literally and energetically be brighter, redder, bolder, more influential in our planetary field.
Mars turning retrograde implies it’s time to not push or be pushy, but be willing to take things more slowly and examine which direction you might ultimately want to go. Some of you might do a remodel of your space, but don’t be surprised or upset if there are delays in the construction process. Some of you will decide to close up shop for good.
This will be a time for many souls to choose to transition back to Spirit, which is already occurring.
Some of you will slow yourselves down physically by an injury or by choosing surgery during this time frame. Old health issues can heat up again (Mars rules inflammation) as symptoms reappear, forcing you to make the next round of changes, researching and opting for healthier choices and behaviors.
From the collective perspective, this promises to be a time of greater drama and revelation, and going to battle as Mars aligns in forceful Capricorn, ruler of our institutions, businesses and the military. As this Mars retrograde is aligned with the South Lunar Node during the entire cycle, much will be brought to light about past abuses of power on all levels, leading the way to institutional reform.
In addition, many weakened ailing infrastructures will give way, possibly leading to loss of life. We are long overdue in addressing this pressing problem. Time to fix what needs fixing.
Huge earth shifts and changes are possible as well, like the ancient granite rocks of the Grand Tetons suddenly and unexpectedly showing fissures and cracks. Earth Oracles abound. Pay attention!
