“Wrapped in Infinite Space” painting by Trea Christopher Grey
Democracy, like good health, is always a work in progress and always at risk. Maintaining vibrant health and a robust democracy, which values the freedom and rights of every being, requires vigilance from daily physical and spiritual assaults, seen and unseen. You can be consciously active or unconsciously (or consciously) passive in making daily choices that ensure democracy, your health and the health of our Earth (which is our home land) continue to be zones of vitality, strength, vigor, and safe from internal or external attacks.
The sign of Cancer embodies our ties to family, home, home lands, including our sacred and nurturing Earth, our history, our stories, our lineage. These fortuitous and expansive energies of this New SolLunar Cycle can shift our own homes and family dynamics as well, unlocking the door on old secrets and sparking a willingness to discuss issues that have previously been avoided. As our families open and evolve, so does society. And as society opens and evolves, so do our families. A win win. And here’s another understanding of the sign of Cancer from The Lunar Planner: “Cancer, commonly the crab today, is also the Egyptian Scarabaeus, an image that illustrates the theme of humanity’s emergence from darkness, dogma, delusion and its reawakening back into the light.” Good news!
In addition, the fixed star of Praesepe is accentuated. Again, here from The Lunar Planner: “Praesepe can indicate a new dwelling place is at hand. When bees leave an old hive, they appear to swarm in frenetic confusion with a scattered sense and lack of direction before identifying their new direction and migrate toward their new home. This confusion is temporary and is part of intuiting the feeling for the right direction, much like turning in a complete circle to identify the way that feels right. Praesepe invites us to trust in our magnetic sense, our inner compass, to hone in on our new direction.”
It is of wondrous significance that Mercury turns direct moments after the New Moon, quickly offering you guidance from your inner compass if you are listening.
Other momentous events this month include Jupiter turning direct and Uranus entering its retrograde on the same day, August 11. Lastly, there is an uplifting portal of planetary players all aligning in Leo, the sign of leadership, integrity, joy, child-like wonder, creativity. These conjunctions will happen later in August, and in contrast to July’s more inward energies, they will surely make this four week period one of outward expression and forward momentum. Enjoy!

New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Cancer
Here is a brief synopsis of the New Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from his LunarPlanner:
“Beginning the Sprouting Phase of the Lunar Cycle, a new theme emerges, a new idea or concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen.”
Wed July 31
New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Cancer: The sign of Cancer embodies our ties to family, home, home lands, including our sacred and nurturing Earth, our history, our stories, our lineage. Here’s another understanding of the sign of Cancer from The Lunar Planner: “Cancer, commonly the crab today, is also the Egyptian Scarabaeus, an image that illustrates the theme of humanity’s emergence from darkness, dogma, delusion and its reawakening back into the light.” Good news!
Praesepe invites us to trust in our magnetic sense, our inner compass, to hone in on our new direction.”
Before the New Moon takes place around sunset, the Moon aligns with Venus which often creates a feeling of inner harmony and love all around. Spend time this evening setting intentions or listening inwardly to your soul’s longings and callings or create a family ceremony together.
Mercury turns direct: What extraordinary synchronicity to have Mercury turn direct moments after the New Moon! Feels like a beneficent beginning for this New SolLunar Cycle. The Mercury retrograde cycle of the past three weeks may have manifested as frustrating delays in real estate deals, family decisions, relationship concerns, a lack of clarity about how to move forward. Trust that something better was brewing and WILL now appear as we enter the completion phase of integration over the next three weeks. Pay attention to the messages coming from within and all around you
Thu Aug 1
Moon/Mars/Juno conjunction is sidereal Cancer: This dynamic triplet of the emotional Moon, action-taking Mars and partnership Juno can manifest as new activist alliances plotting and planning but also fire up tempers or passion in any relationship. If you’ve been avoiding speaking your truth to those close to you, today things might erupt. Do something physical with your beloveds today.
Fri Aug 2
Venus in Cancer square Uranus in Aries: This jittery aspect takes place first thing in the morning and can lead to a sudden shift in plans or even accidents at home. It’s good for clearing clutter, bringing fresh new energy to your home and relationship dynamics.
Sat Aug 3
Mars/Juno conjunction in Cancer: Pay attention! This infrequent aspect is very important and affects what is forming in our lives over the next 3 years in terms of new alliances, key partnerships, home arrangements. This might involve changes in where you live, who you choose to live with and how you define ‘home’ at this phase of your life. Reflect on all you shifted around these same concerns over the past three years as the previous Mars/Juno in Libra completes and the new Mars/Juno in Cancer begins.
Moon in Leo opposite Neptune in Aquarius: Always a good aspect to pal around with your artistic friends and favorite playmates as the joyful Leo Moon relates to the friendship-seeking Neptune in Aquarius. Be willing to invite new members into your regular groups and expand the love.
Sun Aug 4
Moon in Virgo opposite Chiron in Pisces: An honest sharing of feelings can bring emotional healing or a sense someone listened and heard and understood you, which is always a gift.
Moon in Virgo sextile Sun/Venus in Cancer: This aspect takes place in the evening hours, creating good cheer to go with the healthy food you bring to a gathering of friends and family.
Mon Aug 5
Moon/Pallas Athene conjunction in Virgo square Saturn/Pluto/Lunar Nodes: This work-focused alignment carries you through Monday with renewed discernment, dedication and desire to accomplish what needs to be done. It offers excellent support for health goals and strategic planning.
Tue Aug 6
Sun in Cancer trine Jupiter retrograde in Scorpio: This good news aspect happens twice a year and creates a flow of optimism, a renewal of faith you are moving in the right direction. As Jupiter is almost done with its retrograde (April 10- August 11) stay patient as completions and new beginnings are taking shape in fortunate ways.
Moon in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries: Plans can suddenly shift or need to shift to accommodate how someone is feeling.
First Quarter Moon
Here’s a brief synopsis of the First Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from his Lunar Planner:
“The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps. Trust in the process. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. Simply, this phase is a time to work.”
Wed Aug 7
First Quarter Moon: Moon in Libra square Sun/Venus conjunction in Cancer: The astrological signs involved in this action-quarter phase govern family (Cancer) and mates (Libra) but at times we carry our family issues into our work environments. Tensions can occur so use this aspect to initiate the next steps of emerging plans. New housemates arrive and buyers and sellers may appear for real estate deals in progress.
Thu Aug 8
Venus in Cancer trine Jupiter in Scorpio: This wonderful aspect showers our planetary field with love and abundance as hearts are full and seek expression with others in meaningful ways. You might decide to gift your home or beloveds with something of beauty.
Moon/Ceres conjunction in Scorpio: If you are in the process of shifting your home life or care-giving responsibilities, this aspect can bring up strong emotion about changes that are happening. It creates a strong desire to nurture others or seek a greater depth of support or control in your relationships.
Fri Aug 9
Moon/Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio trine Sun/Venus conjunction in Cancer: This is an exuberant and celebratory event that carries us through the day and into the night. It produces confidence, inner and outer joy as you appreciate the company of others and have tons of energy to get a whole lot accomplished.
Sat Aug 10
Mars enter sidereal Leo: I sometimes dream about how planets might ‘feel’, what they experience as the wise Beings they are as they transit through the astrological signs. Today I imagine fiery, willful Mars is happy to depart inward-looking Cancer and enter the astrological sign of joyful Leo, feeling a return of playfulness, wonder, activity and leadership that Leo brings. This upbeat shift is made even stronger by the fact that enthusiastic Jupiter leaves its retrograde tomorrow. Onward, outward and upward.
Moon in Sagittarius trine Juno/Mars conjunction: As the emotional Moon enters enthusiastic Sagittarius for two and a half days, this energetic trine brings forceful action regarding key partnerships, business deals, collaborations underway.
Sun Aug 11
Jupiter in Scorpio turns direct: This jolt of Jupiter turning direct after being retrograde since April 10 occurs around 7:30 am MDT bringing big energy, renewed confidence. This affects our unfolding cultural stories in major ways as well and emotions can become exaggerated and out of control. Either way, this is a day to feel gratitude, knowing that you moved through many challenges since April and can now more fully reap the rewards. This event is still working on us the next week as it integrates into our planetary field, weather, lives.
Uranus in Aries turns retrograde: Unbelievable! To have Uranus enter its retrograde (until January 10, 2020) the same day Jupiter turns direct mirrors the catalytic nature of these times…it is a never-ending process, one dynamic phase leading us into the next. This sky-turning can create instability, volatility and unpredictability. Uranus supports us to take risks and to lead a truly authentic life that values the fact each of us is one-of-a-kind, in spite of our cultural conditioning that sometimes tries to make us conform. Some are more susceptible to that conditioning. Ask yourself if you take too much advice from others rather than listening to your wise evolutionary Self that always seeks to learn, grow, break some rules and follow your heart’s lead. During these next few months, what shifts might you want to make to ensure you are living from that place of independence and differentiation?
Moon/Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius: As this dynamic day completes, this pairing occurs near midnight and can lead to bone-tiredness or serious conversations and telling dreams.
Mon Aug 12
Moon/South Lunar Node/Pluto conjunction: This hot and volatile aspect, like an out-of-control wildfire, helps you break free of constraints of the past (South Node) possibly including a physical or emotional purging or cleansing.
Tue Aug 13 – Wed Aug 14
Sun/Venus conjunction in sidereal Cancer: These two days are powerful days to set new intentions, ask for guidance, imagine what you desire next. It’s always new beginnings as Venus crosses the Sun, concluding the phase as Morning Star and now becoming the Evening Star, visible at dusk later this autumn. Venus governs the heart chakra, identifying the preferences we have in all areas of life. Venus is completing a transit through Cancer (real estate, home, history, soul memory) so make note of what you’ve accomplished and released regarding those areas. Feel into the open space created that naturally follows as we release things of the past.
Mercury in Cancer trine Ceres in Scorpio opposite Moon in Capricorn: This success-oriented aspect is excellent for organizing the business of your home or office even leading to helping hands appearing to assist you and also leads to positive neighborly or family discussions.
Full Moon in Cancer/Capricorn
Here is a brief synopsis of the Full Moon characteristics from my friend and sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from his Lunar Planner:
“The Full Moon marks the point of coition in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement, a time of celebration. The day just after the Full Moon is a time for the realization of the theme to emerge, culminating in the enthusiasm of the Full Moon. Relax and allow this realization to occur. There is no need to force it as it surfaces on its own.”
Thu Aug 15
Full Moon: Sun/Venus in Cancer opposite Moon in Capricorn square Vesta in Aries: Sun and Moon meet up in the last degrees of sidereal Cancer and Capricorn, linked to the fixed stars, Sadalsudd and Nashira, of good fortune and the kind of leadership that nurtures the whole of humanity, not just individual tribes. Hearts can literally be shifted to be more inclusive under the bright light of this Full Moon. That is my prayer.
These fortuitous and expansive energies of this Full Moon can shift our own homes and family dynamics as well, unlocking the door on old secrets and sparking a willingness to discuss issues that have previously been avoided. As our families open and evolve, so does society. And as society opens and evolves, so do our families. A win win. It’s a perfect time to create joyful multi-generational gatherings where all meet and mingle and connect. This Full Moon is linked to loving Venus and focused Vesta, adding romance and intensity to the mix. Vesta also governs one’s sexual style and choices and as Vesta completes a transit through sidereal Aries, some people are impulsive and ready to leap into a new relationship despite societal taboos.
Fri Aug 16
Mercury in Cancer square Uranus in Aries: Squares involving mental Mercury and erratic, brilliant Uranus can create to a sudden change of mind, challenging mental chatter, a flash of genius or insight. Earth shifts or sudden weather events are likely. Drive carefully, too, as Mercury rules our vehicles and Uranus can aggravate erratic drivers.
Sat Aug 17
Moon/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius: This monthly conjunction highlights right-brain, artistic pursuits, visiting an old friend, gathering with community members. Farmers markets and events are packed and humming with joy and abundance. New collaborations emerge.
Venus enters sidereal Leo: Now loving Venus joins Mars and Juno in flirtatious, joyful Leo. There’s been lots of romance in the heavens lately and this transit will bring even more. Leo also governs wise leadership from the integrity of the heart, like the evolved Queen or King of yore who knew their sole mission was to benefit all their people. The upcoming focus on the leadership of Leo will boldly challenge lesser forms of control-based despots and authoritarians and lead the way in love.
Sun Aug 18
Sun enters sidereal Leo: This is the day our Sun enters sidereal Leo in the current celestial configuration of the constellations, which is what sidereal means. The Sun sheds greater light on emerging leaders, romances and creative collaborations growing out of the ongoing Mars/Juno/Venus conjunction. The delightful portal of exuberance grows even bigger and brighter now with the Sun’s help.
I repeat what I wrote yesterday: Leo also governs wise leadership from the integrity of the heart, like the evolved Queen or King of yore who knew their sole mission was to benefit all their people. The upcoming focus on the leadership of Leo will boldly challenge lesser forms of control-based despots and authoritarians and lead the way in love.
Moon/Chiron conjunction in Pisces: Compassionate and tender, vulnerable and wise, this conjunction is a soothing balm, always.
Mon Aug 19
Venus/Juno conjunction in Leo: This lovely pairing creates harmony and a renewal of joy and financial abundance in key relationships. People are exceptionally kind to their partners and colleagues. Some will give a special or romantic gift as a touchstone of their love.
Grand Trine in Water: Moon in Pisces/Mercury in Cancer/Jupiter in Scorpio: The element of water governs our emotions. This harmonious aspect makes for supportive listening and a sense of being understood by others, without even having to use words. It is highly intuitive, poetic and musical.
Tue Aug 20
Moon in Aries trine Sun/Juno/Venus/Mars in Leo: Be more spontaneous or take a risk as the Aries Moon takes hold for two days especially when it comes to playful adventures, doing things with your kids. Make play while this sun shines.
Wed Aug 21
Mercury in Cancer trine Jupiter in Scorpio: Communications are easy and supportive on the home front. Remember we are still in the completion phase of the recent Mercury retrograde cycle, integrating much of what we uncovered during July. This aspect helps us know we really have shifted in how we view a situation and leads to further completions surrounding real estate sales and home shifts.
Moon/Uranus conjunction in Aries: Be willing to suddenly change your plans if someone calls out of the blue or you get a flash NOT to go somewhere or do something…i.e…trust your intuition with this highly intuitive pairing.
Thu Aug 22
Sun/Juno conjunction in Leo: As the Sun aligns exactly with relationship Juno, things come into sharper focus about an existing relationship or you can see what the next step is in an emerging partnership. This can mark a major initiation of something new and exciting. Team up with others for your fun routines or seek a new assistant/counselor to help you on your path.
Moon/Vesta conjunction in Aries trine Pluto in Sagittarius: Driven and laser-focused, this alignment is full of energy and passion. Communications can be sharp and direct but not necessarily combative.
Last Quarter Moon
Here is a brief synopsis of the Last Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend and sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza from his Lunar Planner:
“This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.”
Fri Aug 23
Last Quarter Moon: Moon in Taurus square Sun/Juno/Venus/Mars in Leo: If new alliances took shape in your life in the past three weeks, today’s Taurus Moon helps you ground the possibilities in real ways going forward in the realms of money, real estate, building a new foundation. Perhaps the new relationship was with yourself and how you are choosing to live life and create at this important juncture. Time to move forward with less doubt, more self-confidence and greater conviction to make your dream a reality.
Sat Aug 24
Venus/Mars conjunction in Leo: This annual alignment merges what we love and value (Venus) with the ability to act (Mars) immediately to make it so. This is an androgynous aspect that brings an integration of the feminine and masculine principles and can assist you in the unique expression of your male and female dimensions and desires.
Moon in Taurus opposite Jupiter in Scorpio: Sometimes the Taurus Moon brings up fears about our financial well-being and physical safety. Jupiter can amplify those fears today. If that happens, work toward refocusing your intentions on solutions to resolve issues rather than feeding the fear.
Sun Aug 25
Moon in Gemini trine Pallas Athene in Libra sextile Sun in Leo: This friendly and creative minor Grand Trine manifests as cordial conversations, delightful and beautiful social gatherings and is also excellent for organizing or designing something.
Mon Aug 26
Venus in Leo trine Uranus in Aries: If you show up ready to create on the blank page or canvas today, inspiration comes more easily. Venus governs our love tribes and Uranus’s influence brings courage to overcome shyness or fear to engage with an open heart.
Moon/North Lunar Node conjunction in Gemini: Clues from the Universe in the form of books, media, emails (Gemini) appear to help you know how to move forward (the futuristic North Node).
Tue Aug 27 – Wed Aug 28
Moon in Cancer: On these two days, the home-body, private Cancer Moon can be good for working from home or needing to stay home to help a family member. Aspects to the Moon are supportive making for harmonious interactions. You might still be working hard to integrate the previous two life-changing SolLunar Cycles of July and August so if the need arises, nap, rest, reflect, be still.
Thu Aug 29
Moon/Mercury/Juno conjunction in Leo: This happy and gregarious trio makes for lots of fun and friendliness everywhere. As this Cycle completes with every personal planet (Sun/Moon/Mercury/Venus/Mars) in joyful Leo, make it a play day if you can.
Happy New Moon tomorrow!
