New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Capricorn
“Barn Owl” painting by Natalie Connell
Welcome to the New SolLunar Cycle of February, which is also the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Earth Pig, bringing promises of good fortune and good nature (hopefully greater civility) to our collective world. We are halfway to Spring Equinox (as of February 2) in our Northern Hemisphere and perhaps you are already feeling twinges of excitement for rebirth, new possibilities, renewed vitality and energy.
In these two weeks, we have a number of optimistic trines and sextiles, along with challenging aspects linked to aggressive and truthful Mars. On February 9th, Mars squares the Lunar Nodes, pushing us to move beyond the past into an emerging future, and on February 12th, collides with Uranus in an always-disruptive, once-every-two-year conjunction sure to spark revolution, innovation and electric vitality in our lives.
Thank you, dear Natalie, for the gift of using your paintings for this month’s Star Signposts. Please view her many diverse, unique, magically alive paintings at Natalie Connell Art.

My interpretations and predictions are based on the sidereal astronomical alignments. You can read about my unique way of interpreting astrology at this link: EarthWord SkyWord sidereal readings. Even NASA is onboard now with the sidereal zodiac! In my daily posts, I include the astrological aspects for students of astrology, then give a basic interpretation of how these forces might influence your daily life. As you work with and within the natural flow of time and supportive cosmic energies that each unique SolLunar Cycle brings, life can and will flow with more ease, grace and understanding. I post twice a month, on the New Moon (which includes the two weeks of New Moon and First Quarter Moon) and on the Full Moon (which includes the two weeks of Full Moon and Last Quarter Moon).

New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Capricorn
Here is a list of New Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza from LunarPlanner:
“Beginning the Sprouting Phase of the Lunar Cycle, a new theme emerges, a new idea or concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen.”
Mon February 4
New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Capricorn: You might feel tired upon awakening this morning given we are still finishing up the last SolLunar Cycle before the New Moon which happens midday. Our New SolLunar Cycle takes place in the latter part of sidereal Capricorn, which exerts a more playful, creative energetic to the otherwise serious and ambitiousness of Capricorn. This is an excellent time to plan for or focus on your fitness goals, your professional aspirations, or how you wish to help the greater good. Capricorn cares for our living elders as well so reach out to your important teachers, elders, guides if you are inspired to do so. Discover new educators to guide you on your path or step forward into sharing your wisdom more broadly with awaiting students.
Tue February 5
Moon/Mercury conjunction in Capricorn: Capricorn is all about ambition, being organized and feeling on top of your game. This pairing takes place in the morning and helps with mental focus and the ability to coordinate many details.
Venus in Sagittarius sextile Moon/Vesta in Aquarius: This upbeat aspect forms later in the day and is friendly, optimistic, and puts you synchronistically in the right place and the right time to meet the right people.
Wed February 6
Moon/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius: Make room for spacious, creative time when these two planetary bodies align. It’s good for collaborating for the benefit of your communities, attending an art event, participating in a spiritual gathering. Allow your imagination to run wilder. Dreams might be vivid and full of insight overnight.
Mars enters sidereal Aries: Late in the evening, a sudden surge of energy and independence may take hold of you as Mars enters one of its favorite signs, Aries. This transit will last until the end of March and may increase warring tendencies, spark explosions and accidents, be impulsive and selfish. Yet this transit also supports healthy independence, pioneering adventures and sparks great courage. Think before you leap might be a good idea, but often the urge to act under Aries arises so quickly that you may behave rashly with little warning.
Thu February 7
Sun in Capricorn sextile Jupiter in Scorpio: This alignment awakens sunshine in our hearts and brings abundance to our lives. You can feel great confidence to move forward with professional goals.
Mercury in Aquarius sextile Mars in Aries: This exciting sextile nudges us to take our wild, even wacky, futuristic ideas and launch bold actions and initiatives. Remember, that can mean you simply change one habit (which can be scary) or choose to think a different way about something.
Pallas Athene in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries: This highly creative aspect can lead to a sudden shift in direction in regards a design you are working on or plans you are making. You may suddenly shift gears and go to a new level.
Moon in Aquarius square Jupiter in Scorpio: Reviewing budgets for organizations or sorting out financial issues with friends are part of this aspect. Parents may feel torn between how much leeway to grant or control to exert with their kids.
Fri February 8
Moon/Chiron conjunction in Pisces: This monthly alignment is highly emotional, often expressing as inarticulate tears, grief or sensitivity. This is a chance each month to release buried emotions or lingering sadness. These periodic cleansing rain storms lead to greater health an in the long run.
Sat February 9
Mars in Aries square Lunar Nodes: This rare, aggravating event can be hot and volatile. The Lunar Nodes mirror past lives/projects we are completing (South Node) and new intentions we are setting in motion (North Node). You may make a sudden move, a spontaneous shift, or experience a feeling of “I’m outta here!”.
Moon in Pisces square Saturn in Sagittarius: This serious-minded aspect might feel like a temporary low-hanging cloud hovering over your day. With Pisces, it’s better just to feel rather than over-analyze and make things worse. Sit by water to be calmed and quieted.
Sun February 10
Moon/Mars/Uranus in sidereal Aries: Warning! Red-flag Warning! Today’s planetary pileup precedes the upcoming Mars/Uranus conjunction of February 12. Pardon the drama but accidents are possible and shocking events erupt on the world stage over the next few days as this fireball of activity and volatility lights up our heavens. Avoid being pushy but use its dynamism to push through recent procrastination or doubt.
Mon February 11
Moon in Aries trine Venus/Saturn in Sagittarius: This fiery and enthusiastic aspect is less harsh and more flowing than yesterday’s trouble fest. Moon and Venus connect us with what we need and want, along with our feminine aspects, making it a day to lead with your heart or follow the lead of inspiring women in your life.
FIRST QUARTER MOON
Here’s a list of the First Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza ~ www.lunarplanner.com
“The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps. Trust in the process. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. Simply, this phase is a time to work.”
Tue February 12
Moon in Aries square Sun in Capricorn: The “I’ll do it my way” Moon in Aries squares off with the Sun in responsible Capricorn and makes for an ambitious day to charge ahead pursuing your goals. Some of you may encounter friction as others try to control you or you seek to control them.
Mars/Uranus conjunction: This once-every-two-year conjunction is the very definition of disruption. It agitates the nervous system, can increase inflammation in body and mind, and leads to disruptive, explosive events in the world. You might feel jittery, unpredictable, rebellious. Contemplate what risks your are willing and ready to take in the coming two years. Uranus creates breakthroughs and opportunities that seem to come out of nowhere when you allow your most authentic Self to lead the charge.
Wed February 13
Mercury/Vesta conjunct in Aquarius: Ideas from the future are filling our minds today with this highly inventive astrological pairing. Open up to the idea you can dialogue with your future self via meditation, journaling, or imaginary conversations. Be experimental in some way.
Moon/Juno conjunction in Taurus: As the sensual Moon in Taurus aligns with Juno (ruler of marriage/partnerships), today’s union is like Valentine’s Day come a day early for those of you who celebrate this cultural holiday. Book a couple’s massage, take a slow saunter in the fecund Earth, snuggle up with your pet.
Thu February 14
Moon in Taurus opposite Jupiter in Scorpio: This aspect super-charges the desire for intimacy or can help you resolve a budget/banking issue. There can be wild fluctuations in financial markets when the polarity of Taurus/Scorpio is involved.
Fri February 15
Moon in Gemini trine Sun/Mercury in Aquarius: This gregarious aspect brings beneficial friendships and enhanced communicativeness to our world. Even those who are sparse with the use of words become surprisingly talkative and willing to share what’s on their minds.
Sat February 16
Moon in Gemini opposite Saturn/Pluto in sidereal Sagittarius: It’s a great day for a road trip or to set travel plans when Gemini/Sagittarius rule the day. These signs also stimulate intellectual curiosity and spark the desire to learn a new language. This opposition can lead to great debates or dogmatic standoffs.
Sun February 17
Moon/North Lunar Node in sidereal Cancer: This prescient aspect happens in the early hours of the morning and may bring dreams or memories about people and events from your past or intuitions about what is currently going on within your family dynamics. The Moon in Cancer loves to nest at home doing chores, hang out with family members, cook a nurturing meal.
Mon February 18
Venus/Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius: When Venus (love, art, ethics, values) and Saturn (commitment, discipline, focus) conjunct once a year, things take a serious turn in terms of love concerns, committing to new creative projects, being held accountable to one’s core values. Some may need to ask the question: Am I staying in a relationship/job for security reasons but which no longer nurtures my heart and happiness? Ask the tough questions and you will be rewarded with the honest truth.
Sun in Aquarius sextile Uranus in Aries: This aspect of great vitality and health brings sunlight and fresh air to our interactions with others. It encourages new initiatives or ways of viewing a situation.
Happy Full Moon tomorrow!
