Full Moon in sidereal Gemini/Sagittarius
“Tree Being” photograph by Saga Eksell
Please settle in, this is a longer than usual introduction, fitting with the serious tone of this Full Moon aligned with Saturn.
These times are disruptive. If you expect anything else or think it should be different, your anxiety levels may rise and go off the charts. Find your own ways to accept the revolutionary/evolutionary nature of these times. Breathe deeply often. Stay constant and dedicated to your daily practices that create a centered calm in your being which will radiate forth and benefit others.
Here are just a few celestial influences at work on us. The Uranus/Eris conjunction, which started last year and continues for the coming years, is the very definition of disruption and chaos. We can collectively use this constant state of uncertainty and reinvention to ensure we continue to evolve and innovate all that is out-dated and no longer works. Uranus is about freedom and the power of the individual to lead the charge in changing what needs to change. Alongside this aspect of authentic, visionary leadership emerging from within our own cores and throughout society as well, we have the Saturn/Ixion conjunction. This pairing can manifest as planetary despots and authoritarian regimes that are attempting to gain absolute power over their fiefdoms, with an uptick of support from their slumbering followers who are either too cowardly, fearful or security-oriented to see how their freedoms are being eroded, their environments horrifically polluted and destroyed for their children, secretly but surely, day by day. These types of tyrants seek to divide and conquer versus unite and prosper.
Thankfully, the good news is that concurrent with these disturbing influences, the deeper healing, compassionate forces of the Feminine Fire (think Kilauea erupting as the incarnation of the Goddess Pele) are also profoundly influencing our planetary field in the form of asteroids such as Haumea, Makemake and Sedna. My sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza, writes this about Sedna: “Sedna’s re-emergence suggests her purpose is to bring forth that which has been hidden, exiled, latent or suppressed; and specifically supporting the emergence of the long-suppressed feminine principle in the world; and the participation of females equally with males in all walks of life; prominently, openly and without fear, abuse, prejudice or exploitation. With the return of the feminine principle we also have the return of respect for all life—all species of life.” These astrological influences are clearly at work in the unprecedented numbers of women winning in political elections. This rise of leadership will create an extraordinary activation of kindness, compassion and caring that will ultimately win out over the forces of fear and dominance.
Amidst this intense celestial backdrop, volatile Mars is now in retrograde until August 27. I will periodically repost my notes at the end of my post on this important cycle of 2018 over the next few months, adding new things each time so you can better understand the profound implications of this transit.
Independence Day ~ July 4th
As America’s holiday, Independence Day, approaches, I have been contemplating the promise and meaning of America. In addition to the unique and extraordinary physical beauty of our continent and material well-being many (but not yet all) Americans enjoy, I am more focused on the spiritual power of the founding vision of our country and what that also means for all inhabitants of Earth. I have always related to the American dream not from the tribalistic Cancerian stance, but as an Aquarian Light nation, capable of guiding the world through both the shadow and light that arises from our own complex history. As we grow and learn from our own mistakes and darker days, we can be helpful guides to other nations, but only if we return again and again to our founding, visionary principles. To help calm my anxieties about what I am witnessing in our world, I have been re-reading the uplifting insights from the wise Jacob Needleman from his book “The American Soul–Rediscovering the Wisdom of the Founders.” Here are a few excerpts.
“America is an idea, not an inescapable organic given…a nation formed by philosophical ideals….it is the only nation on in the world that is so constituted. America is not a tribal, ethnic or racial identity. It is a philosophical identity composed of the ideas of freedom, liberty, independent thought, independent conscience, self-reliance, hard work, and justice. To love America is not to love one’s roots—it is to love the flower that has not yet blossomed, the fruit as yet unripened. To love America is to love the future.”
“America is pointing to the most essential art form of the future—the art of human association, the art of working together as individuals in groups and communities. This is the essential art form of the coming humanity. Without it, nothing can help us. The art of the future is the group. The intelligence and benevolence we need can only come from the group, from associations of men and women seeking to struggle against the impulses of illusion, egoism and fear.”
He suggests that the art of America is the art of government and writes about the creation of one of the crown jewels of our nation, the Constitution of the United States of America, which was painfully created through much bickering in a blistering hot summer of 1787.
“The process of a group of ordinary human beings listening to each other, not as people usually listen, but as people can listen: from a source deeper in themselves which opens them not only to the thoughts and views of their neighbor, but to something wiser and finer in themselves and, perhaps, in the universe itself.”
This Full Moon, linked to authoritarian (shadow) or authority-granting (light), Saturn, is pressuring every citizen of America and planet Earth to take increased personal responsibility for embodying the change they wish to see in the world.
On July 10, thankfully, benevolent Jupiter will turn direct from its March 8 retrograde, helping many move forward with expansiveness, support, confidence.

Full Moon in sidereal Gemini/Sagittarius
“Light on the Land” photograph by Saga Eksell
Here is a brief synopsis of the Full Moon characteristics that hold true for every Full Moon from my from my friend and sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza at Lunar Planner.
“The Full Moon marks the point of coition in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement, a time of celebration. The day just after the Full Moon is a time for the realization of the theme to emerge, of what the activities of the first half of the lunar cycle, culminating into the enthusiasm of the Full Moon, are really about. Relax and allow this realization to occur. There is no need to force it as it surfaces on its own.”
Wed June 27
Full Moon: Sun in Gemini opposite Moon/Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius: Today’s moment of the exact fullness of this Full Moon takes place just after moonrise, increasing its influence and power, a good time to bath in the clear light of your intentions. The Full Moon often brings a feeling of enthusiasm and joy, but not this time. The serious tone of Saturn is curbing that enthusiasm, potentially making you focus on uncomfortable realities or responsibilities, or just feeling more subdued and reflective. Saturn represents authority figures like judges, law enforcement, doctors, possibly leading to increased emergency room activity. Stern parents get serious about enforcing limits and curfews. The signs of Gemini and Sagittarius govern the media, communication systems, travel plans, educational pursuits. Delays, restrictions, breakdowns or rerouting opportunities might occur over the next couple of days. Still, every Full Moon is a blessing and opportunity, something to be grateful for. Intuition is heightened and insights abound.
Venus in Cancer quincunx Neptune in Aquarius: Venus is nearing the completion of its annual transit through family/home oriented Cancer. The sign of Cancer can get locked into tribalistic thinking and exclusiveness while the sign of Aquarius always seeks inclusiveness and living the spiritual truth that is the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Today’s aspect might turn people’s hearts in new directions or pressure people to take sides. Consider expanding your inner circle of support to include others, like inviting a new acquaintance to your regular luncheon group.
Thu June 28
Mercury in Cancer square Juno/Uranus in Aries: This aspect takes place in the wee hours of the morning. You might be awake some of the night going over things in your head that you need to communicate to others. During the day, tensions can arise in interactions. Cancer has to be nudged to communicate what’s going on while Aries blurts out without thinking of the consequences. What needs to be said gets said.
Fri June 29
Moon/Pluto conjunction in Sagittarius: Explosive honesty is part of this monthly reunion, especially now with Mars at perigee, shining brighter than ever. Sagittarius runs hot and truthful, but also dogmatic, overly-righteous and prideful. This is an excellent aspect for exceptional athletic feats and all-day abundant energy.
Sat June 30
Moon/Mars/South Lunar Node conjunction in sidereal Capricorn: The Moon often functions as a trigger to already building tensions and events. This aspect might lead to the collapse of bridges, literally and metaphorically. But it also has the potential for great concentrated effort to break through to new levels, like tearing down old walls of divisiveness and discovering new vistas of possibility that exist behind those walls.
Mercury in Cancer square Uranus in Aries: This aspect is a repeat of June 28 but now, more exact. We can become more naturally intuitive but also question the validity of the insights flooding in. The mind feels erratic, unable to focus, darting from one thing to the next. It’s a brain storm today.
Sun July 1
Moon in Capricorn square Jupiter in Libra: Responsibilities can shift in key relationships or you might be focused to create new ways of interacting or accomplishing tasks. Some might sign on the dotted line, committing to a purchase or job opportunity.
Moon in Capricorn opposite Venus in Cancer: As Venus nears the completion of her time in home-body Cancer, the ambitious Moon in Capricorn helps you prepare for re-entering the world in a new way. Finish those home projects. Parents help their kids take the next level of responsibility and leadership of their young lives.
Venus in Cancer quincunx Pluto in Sagittarius: Things may breakdown down in your home/home life, ultimately leading to fixes and upgrades that were needed. Be willing to tweak plans you have already set in motion.
Mon July 2
Moon in Aquarius opposite Ceres in Leo sextile Uranus/Juno in Aries: New housing arrangements might be happening or interesting new friends/partners appear. The ongoing Uranus/Juno conjunction encourages us to experiment in the context of our old relationships and also brings exciting connections that will be part of our future lives.
Tue July 3
Mercury/North Lunar Node conjunction in Cancer: Mercury is the Messenger and this key meeting takes place while many are asleep. It can lead to an important dream about your future, or help you release and forgive something about your past. If you journal, be sure to journal when you awaken as more important messages continue to flood in.
Ceres in Leo trine Uranus in Aries: This lovely trine sparks greater courage for many to become whistle-blowers or simply speak more honestly, spontaneously from the heart. It fosters a deeper appreciation about how to nourish what is unique in each person, like the kind teacher that sees the potential of every student and calls it forth.
Moon/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius: This monthly reunion is excellent creativity and compassion all around. Make time for friends and shared community activities.
Wed July 4 ~ Independence Day
“Eagle” photograph by Saga Eksell
On this day, we celebrate the founding of modern-day America via the Declaration of Independence that liberated us from British rule, and that also eventually lead to the creation of our Constitution. I have been re-reading the uplifting insights from the wise Jacob Needleman from his book “The American Soul–Rediscovering the Wisdom of the Founders.” Here are a few excerpts.
He talks about how the art of America is the art of government and writes about the creation of crown jewel of America, the Constitution of the United States of America, which was painfully created through much bickering in a blistering hot summer of 1787.
“The process of a group of ordinary human beings listening to each other, not as people usually listen, but as people can listen: from a source deeper in themselves which opens them not only to the thoughts and views of their neighbor, but to something wiser and finer in themselves and, perhaps, in the universe itself.”
May we remember to foster this deeper listening within our communities as we honor this day.
Moon/Chiron conjunction in Pisces: This monthly pairing opens hearts and often expresses as a feeling of vulnerability and a willingness to share more openly. At times, the suffering in one’s personal world or the collective world feels unbearable and so this can be a hard day some.
Sun in Gemini trine Jupiter in Libra: Even though this aspect is exact early tomorrow morning, it’s worth noting it’s joy and abundance that can bring good luck or good news today and tomorrow.
Thu July 5
Chiron turns retrograde: Chiron turns retrograde until December 9, creating space in our lives for deeper healing, heart-opening, magical events that suddenly turn the tide of our lives. Give some thought today to what ways you might want to be more vulnerable or ways you seek to share your healing gifts. If you need further training, sign up today for that workshop that expands your natural talents.
Juno/Uranus conjunction in Aries: The ongoing Uranus/Juno conjunction is helping us experiment in the context of our old relationships and also bringing exciting connections with future possibilities if we are seeking that. Today’s exact meeting up is initiatory, leading to endings or new beginnings in our alliances.
Mercury in Cancer opposite Mars in Capricorn: Like the Moon, fast-moving Mercury functions as an astrological trigger for building tensions to burst/burst forth. This aspect can catalyze those infrastructure/earth events I have mentioned are possible during Mars retrograde. Or it can function as secrets revealed about those who are hiding something.
Last Quarter Moon
“Lichen petroglyph” photograph by Saga Eksell
Here is a description of the qualities of the Last Quarter Moon phase compliments of my friend and sidereal colleague, Nick Anthony Fiorenza at Lunar Planner:
“This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.”
Fri July 6
Last Quarter Moon: Moon in Pisces square Sun in Gemini: Just after midnight when the Moon and Sun square off, you might be working hard in the dreamtime to solve/resolve a problem. Your mind and heart might feel at odds. You want to simply forgive, but you keep thinking it’s better to think through why or how things went wrong. Honor that in time, you will be able to fully let go. Healing has it’s own organic process, taking place at the cellular, unconscious level. This aspect can help you let go and move on.
Moon in Aries trine Venus in Leo: This harmonious aspect can awaken late-night romance or a feeling of well-being and joy.
Sat July 7
Moon/Juno/Uranus conjunction in Aries: Spontaneous plans are the best choice today with the leap-of-faith Aries Moon. People are willing to take further risks in their relationships, too. Partnership yoga is a good idea or try a new location for your practice.
Sun July 8
Mercury in Cancer square Jupiter in Libra: The on-going Jupiter transit through sidereal Libra is manifesting culturally as issues of law and order, and calling forth the need for greater justice for all. This aspect begins an important opening to upcoming events happening in August, during the next Mercury retrograde cycle. So pay attention to the messages/insights coming to you today, like the whisper of a secret in your ear by your Guides alerting you to what’s coming next. In addition, challenging communications between family members/associates or in legal matters may occur.
Mon July 9
Moon in Taurus square Venus/Ceres in Leo: Possible financial tensions arise in your life or sorting through a decision about whether to purchase something you desire. Value yourself (Taurus’s message) and your health and book some healing beauty treatments for today or for upcoming weeks.
Tue July 10 ~ Jupiter turns direct
Jupiter in sidereal Libra turns direct: Ah, a special day for our planet as gigantic, wise, optimistic Jupiter heads back into forward motion from its March 8 retrograde. Reflect back on that time and note what you set in motion in terms of intentions or plans. With this turning, you now know more clearly what path to take and can feel the confidence to move forward. Jupiter governs much of what happens in our larger social realities so it’s a big news day for planet Earth, especially in regards to Libra’s issues of justice, law and order, mediation, art and creativity (including the passing of social icons or wise elders).
Ceres in Leo trine Saturn in Sagittarius trine Juno in Aries: This very supportive grand trine brings nurturing support, encouragement, coaching and helpful advice. You feel more confident to make courageous, even ground-breaking choices going forward.
Moon in Taurus: The stabilizing, grounded Taurus Moon likes activities like gardening, body care, financial decision-making, and seeing the value of YOU in a new light, honoring the many gifts you uniquely bring to our world.
Wed July 11
Moon in Gemini opposite Saturn in Sagittarius: The last day of this SolLunar Cycle places the multi-tasking Moon in Gemini opposite calling-forth-a-new-vision Saturn in Sagittarius. Some are extremely scattered while others are able to focus. It’s a good day for intellectual activities or travel but there might be possible delays, due to Saturn’s restrictive influence. You might bounce between being busy, then suddenly exhausted, but not being able to settle down and rest.
Tomorrow’s New Moon is linked to destructive/regenerative Pluto, symbolizing a very intense next SolLunar Cycle. Rest up!

MARS RETROGRADE NOTES:
Mars in sidereal Capricorn turns retrograde: I’ve been alerting you to this aspect since early May when this aspect began on May 12. On June 26, Mars halts and heads backwards (from Earth’s perspective) until August 27, creating a volatile, perhaps challenging summer. It’s important to keep a cool head when surprising events arise.
Here are a few things I’ve already said, with some additions, about one of 2018’s most important astrological events:
Mars turns retrograde on June 26 until August 27 (however the ‘shadow’ period that defines the whole cycle runs form May 12 – October 8) catalyzing a tornadic portal of change and crisis for many and on the world stage. During the time of it’s retrograde, Mars will also be at perihelion (closest to the Earth) so it will literally and energetically be brighter, redder, bolder, more influential in our planetary field.
Mars turning retrograde implies it’s time to not push or be pushy, but be willing to take things more slowly and examine which direction you might ultimately want to go. Some of you might do a remodel of your space, but don’t be surprised or upset if there are delays in the construction process. Some of you will decide to close up shop for good. This will be a time for many souls to choose to transition back to Spirit, which is already occurring. Some of you will slow yourselves down physically by an injury or by choosing surgery during this time frame. Old health issues can heat up again (Mars rules inflammation) as symptoms reappear, forcing you to make the next round of changes in diet or unhealthy behaviors. From the collective perspective, this promises to be a time of greater drama and revelation, and going to battle as Mars aligns in forceful Capricorn, ruler of our institutions and the military. As this Mars retrograde is aligned with the South Lunar Node during the entire cycle, much will be brought to light about past abuses of power on all levels, leading the way to institutional reform.
In addition, many weakened ailing infrastructures will give way, possibly leading to loss of life. We are long overdue in addressing this pressing problem. Time to fix what needs fixing. Huge earth shifts and changes are possible as well.
