First Quarter Moon
“Both Sides Now” painting by Priscilla Marden
The astrological energies this week are more muted than last week, which is pleasing to know given the fact we will finally know the results of this tumultuous and t00-long Presidential Election. And I believe we will know. This week is the action phase of this SolLunar cycle, which can lead to crisis, conflict or affirming actions.
I also have frustrating news to report. I spent six hours on Sunday putting the final touches on my Election 2016 post that I’ve been working on since June. And then my draft just completely disappeared and reverted to an ancient draft. I am flummoxed and disappointed. I am letting it go. It was no masterpiece, but had some interesting information. After we know the results of Tuesday’s Election, I will consider rewriting a new version that addresses this next four year cycle.
I will share this: Using July 4th as the birthdate of our nation, the United States of America is a sidereal Gemini nation. Qualities of Gemini include being curious, accepting, and information-seeking or seeing things as black and white, good and evil, prone to polarization. It’s no surprise our country is manifesting this split throughout our electorate in daily discussions happening everywhere, and now, front and center in this Presidential Election of 2016. Part of the larger purpose of America is to heal and build bridges for our deepest splits, find common ground or even discover a third way that unifies our electorate, finding ways to bridge to our splits rather than splinter apart. It is very important to note that the current leaders running for office are mirrors for struggles held within our electorate. The real power to change is always in the hands of the citizens.
As I was working on the final edits for that now-vanished Election 2016 piece in my ‘Prius office’ in Grand Teton National Park, I was fortunate to watch a Grizzly named Blondie, mostly with no other humans around, for four hours. A Grizzly Bear is a blessed oracle guide for this reason: Ursa Major, the Great Bear constellation, is indicative of the right use, or abuse, of power. And that has certainly been a core issue in this Presidential Election. Bear medicine in Native American tradition is associated with introspection, the ability to go within and discover the deepest core wisdom.
Then along came this powerful image by my longtime friend and education colleague, Priscilla Marden. Priscilla is a visionary artist who channels and paints the truth of the moment with powerful shamanic imagery. Above is her Great Bear and you can read her description of the symbolism of this drawing at the end of this piece. Thank you, Priscilla.

Here’s a list of the First Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza ~ www.lunarplanner.com
“The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps to move forth on what you were inspired about…. it is time to now participate in trust and knowing. Trust in the process. Demonstrate this trust in physical action and you will be supported. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. Simply, this phase is a time to work.”
Note: I write my posts according to the Lunar cycles, posting on the New, First Quarter, Full and Third Quarter Moons. If you to work with and within the natural flow of time and supportive cosmic energies, your life will flow with more ease and grace. My interpretations and predictions are based on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. Mon November 7
First Quarter Moon: Moon/Pallas Athene in Capricorn square Sun in Libra: This is a particularly strategic, catalyzing First Quarter Moon, due to the conjunction of Pallas Athene (goddess of creative wisdom, organizational strategy, trusting one’s intuition) with the motivational Moon. Focus on the details of your emerging plans, projects and accomplish much today with the extraordinary productivity of Capricorn and the centering balance of Libra.
Venus in Sagittarius trine Ceres in Aries: This aspect powerfully supports feminine leadership and leading with your feminine side. No matter your sex, everyone works with Venus (what is true in your heart) and with Ceres (a planet linked to caregiving and caring for all). This aspect brings out enthusiastic joy and a desire to help others.
Tue November 8~Election Finale
Aquarius Moon: Today, the overall emotional state, as defined by Aquarius, can manifest as a feeling of community camaraderie, or in the extreme, violent anti-social behavior. Both are options today and tomorrow as emotional Moon transits Aquarius. Aquarius is revolutionary and/or is concerned that everyone gets a fair shake.
Mercury enters Scorpio: This aspect leads to a deepening of the mind for the next few weeks, either through obsession, paranoia, research. And for some, this transit might manifest as a feeling of depression.
Wed November 9
Moon/Neptune/South Lunar Node in Aquarius: The South Lunar Node in astrology is often tied to the past story, that which we need to let go of. The current transit of Neptune, ruler of the imagination, to that Node (completing on November 17), encourages the release of old dreams, feelings of disillusionment, and simultaneously supports everyone to take steps toward a new dream. Today, the Moon triggers this truth in important ways, both in our personal lives as well as our collective field. It’s a perfect time to gather with like-hearted colleagues as well.
Thu November 10
Moon/Chiron in Aquarius: This monthly alignment can often bring deep emotional releases, allowing you to let go of tensions you’ve been forced to bear. Let go, and let it all flow. Spending time in or near water environments is a good choice today.
Moon in Pisces square Venus in Sagittarius: This challenging square can pose a challenge between what you want to do versus what you need to do. At times, those parts of ourselves are at odds. Venus in Sagittarius is the HeartMind taking a courageous leap of faith, while the hyperemotional, sensitive Moon in Pisces feels vulnerable and scared. Honor both sides, and talk it through to discover a balanced solution that works for you.
Fri November 11
Juno in Scorpio sextile Mars in Capricorn: This exciting and cooperative aspect between Juno (core partnerships, lovers) and passionate, active Mars, assists partnerships to accomplish much in terms of organization, financial affairs, sharing athletic pursuits, focused intimacy.
Moon in Pisces opposite Jupiter in Virgo: Jupiter amplifies whatever it touches, so the opposition to the creative, sensitive Moon in Pisces can help your creative juices flow or inundate you with an overwhelming emotional wave. Virgo helps us be more discerning in the choices we are making, while Pisces often just dives in without considering the consequences. So this combo can actually lead to a healthy compromise.
Sat November 12
Sun in Libra square Pallas Athene in Capricorn: It’s another great day for organizing your spaces and planning ahead. Or doing a very technical climb with a favorite partner.
Moon/Uranus/Ceres conjunction: Be lazy and relaxed this Saturday morning as the Moon is in Pisces, then get stuff done later in the afternoon as the Moon heads into action-oriented Aries. The alignment to experimental Uranus and caregiving Ceres can lead to cooking a different kind of breakfast or changing up your routine in a fun way.
Sun in Libra trine Chiron in Aquarius: This collaborative alignment makes for lending a supportive hand or ear to another. It encourages sharing your vulnerable heart as you seek a healing solution to a dilemma.
Sun November 13
Sun in Libra quincunx Uranus in Pisces: Uranus can always bring a surprise or shocking event in our lives that ultimately sets us in a more authentic and true direction. The turning today might involve a key partnership or an inner awareness of the need to break free of the confines of the past and be more experimental.
Grand Trine in Fire: Moon in Aries/Pluto in Sagittarius/North Node in Leo: Fire signs are about taking risk, leadership, inspiration. This one is all about discovering where your future Self is already leading you with the confidence of knowing all will be well, even in the uncertainty. Believe and trust.

I am already missing President Obama, a man of sublime intelligence and wisdom, a model for integrity and kindness, and an exceptionally hard worker. He raised the bar. What an extraordinary President and educator-in-Chief he has been. I am so grateful I lived at this time to experience and learn from his leadership and legacy.

Priscilla Marden’s inspiring statement about artwork:
“Lots of imagery has been coming through to me lately, sparked, no doubt, by all the upheaval in the world. This has been a political season like no other in my lifetime, and this bear piece came through in honor of that. So many people are angry – much more energy is being directed AGAINST candidates than is being created to support hopes, ideals, commitments.
The bear is about introspection, about going deep inside and meeting/confronting our authentic selves. Nothing that is happening in the world is outside of our influence. We create by action or inaction. There is no getting away from responsibility – we are all accountable (or culpable) for what manifests.
As each of us (in America) goes into next week, this piece is suggesting that we take a long, hard look inside as we make a huge choice; some may feel there is no choice at all, but there is no such thing. If you say, “I’m not responsible for all the bad in the world,” then something to think about might be how acceding to victimhood helps create an opening for the things we don’t want. We can always work towards alternatives, being creative about finding a better solution.
Each of us is a complex being. We are rife with contradictions, and that’s what makes us interesting. We have duality encoded in our DNA. But what can we do with that constantly shifting and demanding energy inside us? We can act. We can act and bring forth the things that grow and nurture and blossom, and move ourselves into a more conscious and enlightened state.
This recent past has been a lightning bolt – a big wake-up call to everyone that we need to pay attention to what we really want. Yes, everyone has gripes and disappointments, but we have, as a nation, aligned ourselves with a very negative and damaging way of trying to make changes. That kind of energy is exactly what holds us in a perpetual negative feedback loop. And every single one of us, every one, contributes to it.
No matter who is president of a country, the country is still made of the people in it. In America, we have the wherewithal to be numbed. That means we spend more time on entertainment than we do on critical thinking, and that has been devastating. After the election we have an immense opportunity to create, by our positive actions as empowered individuals, a world of thriving and abundance for everyone in it. This is a beautiful planet with fascinating people and perspectives. Each one of us has something unique to bring to the human experience. It’s time to let your own light shine, regardless of a government figurehead.
Be heartened, be filled with a positive belief in the grandness of being alive, especially now. I am always moved by the imagery that peeks through my subconscious – little lucid dreaming moments that are trying to be heard. I’m happy to share this one with all of you, and ask you to go deep and walk back out into the world as your deepest, truest, most wildly powerful self.”
