First Quarter Moon
“Borderland fire” photo by Lyn Dalebout
I love the idea of our Earth being buffeted by solar winds, and I wonder how those invisible winds might influence us. These winds often bring the visible Northern Lights. Here’s some information from SpaceWeather: “During the weeks around equinoxes, the tilt of the interplanetary magnetic field favors geomagnetic storms. Even gentle gusts of solar wind can spark bright outbursts of light.” We are in the season of both eclipse and aurora. Sounds magical to me.
The big event this week is the finale of the historic square of Saturn and Neptune on September 10. And the growing heat of the Sun/Mars square becomes exact on September 13. This can lead to increased inflammation, pain, even bleeding, as Mars rules the blood and can fuel the fires of frustration and anger. Watch out and move carefully.
I took the above photograph on the borderlands between Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. As a friend and I walked the mosaic of freshly burned land intermixed with vibrant surviving vegetation, we honored our own challenging releases of 2016. We intentionally planted new seeds from the serontinous lodgepole pine cones, opened by the heat of the fire’s ferocity, blessing the new growth of the future forests to come, and also sure to sprout into new creative directions in our lives. This is essentially what astronomical eclipses bring into our lives, both letting go of the past and embracing the new. This week, can bring preparation and further cleansing fires that precede next week’s Full Moon Partial Eclipse.
I will be offering my Fall Equinox discounts on all my sidereal astrological readings until the end of September. Send me an email if you are interested! Thank you.

Here’s a list of the First Quarter Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza ~ www.lunarplanner.com
“The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps to move forth on what you were inspired about…. it is time to now participate in trust and knowing. Trust in the process. Demonstrate this trust in physical action and you will be supported. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. Simply, this phase is a time to work.”
Note: I write my posts according to the Lunar cycles, posting on the New, First Quarter, Full and Third Quarter Moons. If you to work with and within the natural flow of time and supportive cosmic energies, your life will flow with more ease and grace. My interpretations and predictions are based on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. Fri September 9
First Quarter Moon: It’s a focused and fierce First Quarter Moon turning point kind of day, as the deep and dark Scorpio Moon is conjunct restraining Saturn and aggressive Mars, and all three are in a tense square to the Sun in creative Leo. This can go two ways: someone is trying to tease you to lighten up, but you will have none of it, or you need to abandon a false cheerfulness and face the consequences of recent choices. It’s about getting real with your next steps, and making solid commitments about what you want to create in your life.
Sat September 10
Saturn in Scorpio squares Neptune in Aquarius finale: Although this societally-shifting aspect that began in November of 2015 technically completes today, it’s effects will still be felt for years to come. Neptune in Aquarius as been beneficially opening the hearts of many toward greater compassion for all, helped us find our like-hearted communities, and encouraged unconventional and revolutionary alliances. Saturn in Scorpio has lead to major shifts in power-structures, financial reorganization, a desire to go back to the old days and hold on to dying power dynamics, while also bringing death to those old ways of living. In America, we have clearly been witnessing this in our current election cycle. Things have shifted permanently, no doubt. Yet it remains to be seen where the majority of people stand in regards to the old dying ways or the new evolving ways. In chaotic times like these, I place my faith in where the planetary ecological and evolutionary forces are pointing: always in the direction of love and acceptance and diversity.
Sun September 11
Venus in Virgo square Moon/Pluto in Sagittarius: You know that conflictual feeling that sometimes what you need and what you want are not congruent? This productive but challenging square pits needs against desires, seeking to find a way to bridge the two. Venus in Virgo likes order and calm, and Moon/Pluto in Sagittarius is all about wild freedom, honoring the messiness of creativity. It’s also a good aspect to hammer out the practical details of your bigger vision.
Mon September 12
Mercury retrograde conjunct Sun in Leo: A bright epiphany might light up your mind or a sudden shift in focus and direction might land in your heart. You might make an internal decision you are not yet ready to share with others. That will come once Mercury turns direct again, after September 21. Pay attention to incoming messages all around you, and say thank you when the gift arrives.
Tue September 13
Sun in Leo square Mars in Scorpio: For many, today will bring action and forward momentum, bringing us out of a sense of internal waiting that may have occurred during the recent Mars retrograde cycle from February-August 2016. Traditionally, this aspect also makes people more short-tempered, aggressively direct, highly athletic. If you can, remember to think before you leap, so as to avoid physical injury or bloody accidents.
Moon in Capricorn square Juno in Libra: Combined with the above aspect, this alignment might lead to tense conversations about responsibilities in key relationships. Also, it’s excellent for planning and organizing, clearing the clutter from your surroundings.
Wed September 14
Sun in Leo opposite Chiron in Aquarius: This annual opposition opens the door to both magical and challenging events. That’s because Chiron rules shaman time, where out-of-the-ordinary experiences are the norm, and where healing crises arise to assist toward greater health and balance. This is the kind of day where things literally vanish or appear, with no possible rational explanation. Appreciate the mystery today.
Venus in Virgo square Vesta in Gemini: The theme of organizing continues. Finish up late taxes, bring order and beauty to your office, home, community spaces. Read and research about any health/nutritional interests that you currently find intriguing. And excellent aspect for writers, too, to push through any recent writer’s block.
Thu September 15
Moon/Neptune/South Lunar Node conjunction in Aquarius: More magic is afoot today as the portal-opening Moon aligns with imaginative, mystical, artistic Neptune in Aquarius. This aspect is best used for allowing your imagination to run free or hook up with friends in festive, collaborative events. The link to the South Lunar Node can also mark a parting of ways with someone who once was central and important to you. It’s okay. It’s healthy to allow this natural flow of people in and out and through and throughout our lives.
