“Ascent” by Dave McNally www.brushartventures.com
As summer became autumn, now autumn leads the way into winter, the time of harvest is at hand. I feel a fleeting sense of clarity about the nature, challenge and gift of 2013. In my attempts to make sense of this unprecedented process of rapid change we are undergoing on every level, two themes have emerged from my own experience, from what I witness on a daily basis with family/friends/clients, and from watching our collective global events.
One: We are each being SEIZED, at times literally, by our wiser, kinder, higher selves.
Two: We are RETIRING from our old lives. Yes, retirement is at hand, no matter your age.
You may have your own name for this process. Crisis, catharsis, upheaval. It is also called the Ascension process in metaphysical and spiritual circles. It is the secret of the ages guiding our inevitable evolution.Through our many incarnations, through our many epochs and ages of war and peace and war again, evolution wins out, always. In this I trust.
And evolution, the kind that lasts, always has our more loving instincts guiding and guarding the very force of evolution. We are becoming a more loving compassionate species. In this I trust.
I call this process our Lightbody Upgrade. The Lightbody Upgrade is simply this evolutionary moment in time, in which our higher selves are seizing us, at times demanding, we choose our more compassionate loving nature over our prejudicial judgmental fear-based nature. None of us are immune as to the choice we are making at this time. We are all participants, willingly or unwillingly. This Lightbody Upgrade is inevitable.
Fear will be your demise, love will keep you alive. Best to get on board with these universal progressive forces at play, if you want to thrive.

If you read my blog or study astrological cycles, by now you know we are living through a very major planetary cycle called the Uranus~Pluto square from 2012-2015. Our accelerated upgrades continue at even a more furious rate. Who knew this cycle would be so arduous?
Consider re-reading this post I made earlier this year (http://earthwordskyword.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html) with clues as to how to proceed in these uncertain times.
Or read “Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage” by Alfred Lansing or “Touching the Void” by Joe Simpson. As you do, envision yourself as an equally courageous survivor, pioneer, adventurer, for indeed you are such an extraordinary being living in these historic times.
And for a more recent tale of courage, check out this link~http://nikwallenda.com~ to watch this inspiring, at times terrifying, event in which the 6th generation tight-rope walker Nik Wallenda successfully walked across a wire that bridged a section of the Grand Canyon. Find a way to watch the entire walk that took place on June 23 2013 on the Discovery Channel.
“Canyon” by Todd Kosharek www.brushartventures.com
Here’s what caught my attention as I watched this miraculous event happening live.
Nik began praying to Jesus, his spiritual Teacher, from the moment he stepped onto the wire, as he embarked upon this courageous adventure. His continual litany of gratitude to his wise Guide continued for much of the 23 minutes it took him to walk on this thin wire across the Grand Canyon. When sudden intense winds began to pick up, Nik became quiet due to the intensity of the uncertain winds that whipped the wire which began to zing. He had to find a way to calm himself, calm the wire. He crouched down and rested, essentially getting low to the ground, low to the ground of the tightrope, calming the vibration in the wire. He had to find a way to still all his inner fears and doubts. Surely Jesus was with him, but also, he was with himself and had to find a way through to the other side of the chasm.
There are moments we watch him silence himself, his conversation with Jesus subsides, he even asks his Dad to be still. We witness his remarkable composure, no more speaking to anyone, just himself, doing this alone. In the end, it was only Nik that got himself across that wire spanning the Grand Canyon. He did it solo, yet he was surrounded, embedded, by the love of all, from his Jesus, to the winds, his family, and, I believe even the Grand Canyon assisting him in some miraculous earthly way. Isn’t that the truth of life? We do it alone yet we are embedded in a network of connectivity and love.
Ah, and watch his joyful prancing to his family at the end of his walk. When he returns to earth, he kisses the Earth, and then embraces and offers thanks to the Navaho elders who gave their permission to perform this miraculous feat on their sacred lands.
To me, public events like these are both literal and symbolic in the courage of their creators and in illustrating what is transpiring in our larger collective story. That’s why they grab our attention. Here’s what I gleaned from Nik Wallenda’s miraculous walk on the wire.
To me, the wire is symbolic of our own nervous system as well as the narrow path we are currently being asked to navigate. As many watched, there was no way to know if he would make it across. But what was clear to me as I watched is that even though we rely at times on our spiritual Team, in his case Jesus, it is our own selves who are pulling us through. It was Nik Wallenda’s long hours of practice and centering that allowed him to make it across that chasm intact. There were doubtful moments to be sure. He even expressed his own doubt several times, wavering, wondering, would he survive?
As I watched Nik Wallenda perform this courageous act that called to him since he was born, as I watched him practice his own mastery (please read this post about Living the Light of your Mastery http://earthwordskyword.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html) amidst his spiritual certainty, at times, uncertainty, with no net of protection, oddly, I felt myself in him.
As I watched Nik Wallenda take his next leap of faith navigating his wire, I could actually translate his bravery into honoring the bravery of my own life. I saw my own courage, doubt, fear, uncertainty, strength, calling upon Spirit’s assistance, walking that line alone within the power of my own heart and intention, yet embedded in my networks of connectivity and love, at times faltering, wondering, will I make it, and yes, the joyful prancing back to a place of land and ground and earth and safety, at least for now. It was as if in watching Nik Wallenda, I was able to more clearly honor my own courage. That was the gift.
May you eventually watch the entire event and feel the vigor, terror, strength, and epic courage you exhibit each day.

Here’s another dimension of courage we are each being asked to face and embrace in 2013 and through early 2014.
Are you puzzled by this person you are becoming, unable to tell which direction is up or which is down? Are you intrigued, mystified, at times even disappointed by the truths you are uncovering, discovering about what really makes you, or others you thought you trusted, tick? In this ‘once every 12 year cycle’ of Jupiter transiting sidereal Gemini~the astrological sign of the twins, of the lovers, and of integrating your shadow and light~none of us can escape the raw truth about who we are and what makes us tick. You can no longer run from facing the honest truth that lies in your heart, about what you truly desire. The part of you that may have been in the shadows is seeking to come into the light and be heard and honored. There is nothing wrong with the shadow. It simply wants to be seen and acknowledged and considered as part of the uniqueness and gift of who you are. (What a timely coincidence that the winter storm hitting much of the country over Winter Solstice is named Gemini. Ah the cosmic trickster at play!)
The last time Jupiter was celestially in Gemini~the sign of the Twins~was in 2001 when the Twin Towers collapsed in a truly tragic cosmic co-incidence.
A note to my astrologer friends: if that doesn’t make you a sidereal astrologer (using true astronomical alignments) versus a tropical astrologer (no ground truthing or rather sky truthing)…think about it.
Maybe it’s time to re-consider your astrological stance.
Shouldn’t we, as astrologers, of all professions, be true to the stars?

Back to being seized and retiring, my two themes of 2013.
~Being SEIZED by your better Angels, your wiser more expensive Self, isn’t always easy or lovely or pleasurable. Quite the opposite. Are you in the midst of a health crisis, death crisis, or some version of a mental~emotional~spiritual breakdown/breakthrough? Have you been left homeless by a devastating weather event or are you experiencing a dismantling of what you once called home and those relations that brought you security? In this process of seizure, much is being taken away and it feels almost unbearable at times. Yet this release and deconstruction precedes your rebirth, coming soon to a life near you.
~Do you sense you are being asked, even forced to RETIRE from all that bores you, does not serve your joy, keeps you trapped in feeling like a victim or helpless? We each have our own version of this, right? It might be an old habit, an unfullfilling relationship, a boring job that pays the bills and insurance (not any more!), of allowing abuse or instigating it, a belief you aren’t in charge of your own health, vitality, creative options. Time to retire those old notions of self.
RETIRING isn’t easy. We get used to our old ruts and ways of being, of simply accepting this is just how life is, this is who I am. We are being pushed relentlessly to be more aligned with our joy, to express of our deeper calling in more miraculous ways, to discover our expansive and expanding creativity. What you perceive is being taken from you is good. If you will stay positive, remain hopeful, activate your imagination, you will understand why what you are shedding needs to be shed. No more dormant dreams. Activate your imagination. This is the key.
The whole of our Earth and our human species is being shocked to awakening, the equivalent of a seizure, and we are rapidly retiring from out-moded mores/ behaviors/beliefs. Our brains are literally evolving away from reptilian fear to awakening love. Those who have taken too much for too long need to give more. And those who have given far too much for far too long need to open to receiving and ask for the assistance they require and deserve. The tide is turning.

Here’s the hopeful news: we are halfway through this Uranus square Pluto transit from 2012-2015. As in any pregnancy or death process (these states of transitions are very similar in nature, both are portals linked to rebirth), 2012 and 2013 have had more to do with the destructive, de-constructive processes that are actually a key part of birthing something new. The painful but equally mysterious truth is that birth creates death by it’s very nature. I wrote about this earlier this year: http://earthwordskyword.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
