New Moon
“Northern Lights over Bethel, Alaska” photograph by Lucy Bayles
Here in the Northern Hemisphere of Earth, we are entering the season where we are lit from within. As we need more rest, more quiet time to reflect, we might discover the Light is still shining bright within us. There will be some important astrological events we will navigate collectively before the end of 2015 which I will be writing about in the coming weeks. Both Neptune and Uranus will move forward again from their retrogradations of summer and autumn and we will navigate the historic Saturn/Neptune square. As I like to track the earthly weather via the Farmers’ Almanac forecast, I also enjoy tracking our celestial weather forecast, noting some weeks will be stormy, others, full of sunshine. Stay tuned, stay attuned.
Thank you Lucy Bayles, wise elder, for this stunning photograph from your Alaskan homeland.
Back to this week. The first two days of this week are the most dynamic, glistening with the possibility of brand new-born energy as we are catapulted into the next creative cycle, always the gift of each New Moon. And the day after this New Moon, Mars makes a once-every-two-year conjunction with the North Lunar Node, marking a major decision point in regards to your future choices and directions.
Here’s the visual for the New Moon taking place in sidereal Libra, compliments of StarWalk. Note that Mercury is also in the mix with the Sun and Moon:

Here’s a list of New Moon characteristics compliments of my friend/sidereal colleague Nick Anthony Fiorenza at lunarplanner:
“Beginning the Sprouting Phase of the Lunar Cycle, expressing a New Theme: A new theme emerges. A new idea, a new concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. Often this process is one of discovery, slowly revealing a simple theme over a day or two, or it may be quite clear and specific, a spontanious message, even suggesting a major life change. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen. A simple word or phrase may pop into your mind during this quite time describing the new lunar theme in a way that is unique to you, or perhaps a simple feeling or knowing will come over you. The ability to listen, honor and trust the inner is all that is required at this time. The ideal time to attune to your New Moon theme is exactly as the New Moon occurs, or at sunrise after the New Moon if the New Moon occurred during the night.”

Please note: I make my posts according to the Lunar cycles, posting on the New, First Quarter, Full and Third Quarter Moons. I seek to support you in working with and within the natural flow of time and energy, which will help your life flow with more ease and grace. Also, I base my interpretations and predictions on the true sidereal astronomical alignments. New SolLunar cycle: Both Sun and Moon align in late sidereal Libra (see picture above) conjunct two stars called Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali. The first Z star is linked to the karmic aspects of our life, associated with our past lives and old conditioning. The second Z star is associated with our dharma, the place of our future Self and beckoning new possibilities. We simply have to choose. Not so simple at times, I know, yet it’s true, we simply have to choose which direction we are heading and which next step it is time to take. Choosing will be a major theme for this upcoming SolLunar cycle. And as Mercury in Libra is conjunct this New Moon, there will be a strong need for you to communicate and connect with beloveds, therapists of all kinds, your own Inner Artist. Consult your own wise Self today and all month long.
Venus in Virgo square Pallas Athene in Sagittarius: Even though this aspect happens over night into tomorrow morning, it’s worth noting today. This is all about planning and focusing your instinctual self in the direction you want to go. Think of an unruly puppy that just needs a bit of help focusing. Be kind and loving but firm and committed. (Thank you my beloved Spirit dog, Cola Bear, for teaching me that lesson.)
Thu Nov 12
Mars/North Lunar Node conjunction in Virgo: This day promises to be a day of action for many of us. Mars is the planetary ruler of being passionate and direct, speaking and living our truth, even in the face of other’s criticism. This is especially true with today’s alignment in Virgo, the sign of listening to your Inner Teacher above all other teachers. We all have one, and that wise Inner Guide/Teacher/Creator is actually our more expansive Self. Attune and commune with that energy and reap the rewards. Also today, you may become very clear about what healthy boundaries look and feel like.
Moon/Saturn conjunction in Scorpio: This serious, cramping-your-style aspect holds you accountable today in regards to some aspect of your life. Maybe you discover you bounced a check, you see you need to renegotiate a contract, or you realize you aligned with someone too soon before you learned about a darker secret they have carried. Or maybe a relationship is calling up your shadow side. These things are all part of life, so just navigate the challenge and try not to make things worse by feeding fear or beating up on yourself, also possibilities under this once-monthly aspect.
Fri Nov 13
Venus in Virgo sextile Saturn in Scorpio: This lovely astrological moment supports us in feeling focused, energized, excited in regards to a creative project, in choosing saving over spending, in creating a new form for our current relationships, such as moving in together or making new vows.
Moon in Scorpio squares Jupiter/Chiron: As the probing, sometimes paranoid, Scorpio Moon squares Chiron, the wounded healer, and Jupiter, the confident philosopher king, it’s time to delve deeper into your relationships. For some, that need will arise due to a glaring challenge that needs to be addressed. For others, the desire arises to know someone better, including yourself, at a deeper level. There is also a helpful trine of the Moon to Uranus in Pisces, always good for surprising emotional breakthroughs.
Sat Nov 14
Moon in Sagittarius squares Mars in Virgo/Vesta in Pisces: This decisive alignment calls forth being more direct and honest about where you want to place your focus or dedication to a cause at this time. Distractions may appear. Be willing to make a choice as to which direction is calling you, despite what others might be wanting you to do. As you can see, the reoccurring theme of listening to your Inner Teacher is up this week, big time. It’s quite a gift we are being given, in my opinion, so ignore the signs and signals at your own peril.
Sun Nov 15
Moon/Pallas Athene/Pluto conjunction in Sagittarius: This aspect is like a flaming arrow of truth and willpower being launched from within you, encouraging you to suddenly leap into action with a new found clarity. It’s an excellent day for making plans, creating a new strategy. This aspect might appear in the astrological charts of our most gifted mountaineers who lead the expedition. I like to think we are all courageous explorers today. And the adventure doesn’t have to be life-changing or exotic. You might finally breakthrough procrastination and tackle and organize a messy home or desk, or get yourself to an exercise class you’ve wanted to attend.
Mon Nov 16
Moon in Capricorn sextile Sun in Scorpio: Ah, the lovely crescent Moon of new possibilities, visible at dusk this evening. Be sure to catch a glimpse if you can and feel that promise within yourself. Capricorn loves organization and efficiency, so you might feel excited to take on your day with verve and focus as you greet this Monday morning.
Tue Nov 17
Sun/Mercury conjunction in Scorpio: An aspect of mental genius, literally, is this one. Think of this as the Sun illuminating Mercury, meaning your mind is being lit from within. Or you can think of this as Mercury, the Messenger, opening the portal of Sun, synonymous with your Source Self, receiving a direct message for your wiser Self. May you make time to listen and log those messages and insights available to you today.
Moon/Ceres conjunction in Capricorn: This alignment brings with it a feeling of responsibility and concern, especially in regards to parenting your children, your elders, your own needs. It’s a great day to use your nurturing energy ~ Ceres’s domain ~ in some community context as well, such as signing up to do Meals on Wheels, so supportive to our elders, or volunteering at a school or senior center.
