Sober
“Through the Whole” ink painting by Rosanna Mitchell
This interesting to me: the extraordinary New Moon of July 26 (please read my previous Star Signpost https://www.earthwordskyword.com/star-signposts-week-july-21-27/) was conjunct optimistic mobilizing Jupiter but now this week’s Full Moon is ruled by Saturn, considered to be more pessimistic, certainly the realist, often enforcing restraint and restriction upon our lives. It seems we are being cosmically forced to slow down in terms of grounding our expansive dreams, or to commit to the necessary discipline it takes to make something happen. This is why I choose “sober” as this week’s word. It means serious, sensible, solemn. Solemn means “characterized by a deep sincerity”. I like that in association with Saturn, who often gets a bad rap from bad astrologers (ha!). The word sober is also often associated with releasing addictions, which includes addictive ways of thinking and unhappy obsessions. Time to make conscious choices to replace unhealthy habits with better options, so says Saturn. This energetic is at play from start to finish this week. Plan ahead for making the hard but necessary choices, perhaps encountering some level of frustration or need to put on the brakes feeling restained or restricted.
When I need spiritual or earthly clarity, I often pull a card from Doreen Virtue’s “Ascended Master Oracle Cards” (I highly recommend them). The card for Krishna, considered to be the 8th incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu, seems appropriate for this week. His message is “Find the Blessings in your Current Situation”. Here’s a quote from that entry: “When we curse a situation, we block its energy flow and things fester and grow worse. In contrast, if you finding blessings within your current situation, supportive and healing energy flows toward you”. Sage advice for the coming week, and always.
Mon Aug 4
On this final day of the Moon moving through relational, fair-minded Libra, two alignments occur. The breaking dawn conjunction with Saturn starts this week with a solemn emotional tone. You may awaken feeling overburden by your current responsibilities. But a helpful trine to Venus in Gemini encourages you to converse, vent, even ask for help from a friend or colleague. Even though you may temporarily feel alone or isolated, don’t go it alone. Reach out, connect, and even delegate some of those tasks to others.

The delving deep, Scorpio Moon (also linked to shared resources, joint finances and intimacy) is in a lovely trine to both Jupiter and Mercury in Cancer, the astrological sign that rules family, agriculture, home. This will be a great day for cooperative conversations amongst family members. Be sure to include and listen to the wise voices of your children. They may open up to you about something deeper they want to get off their chests. Some of you might want to restructure your household budget, refinance your home, or feng-shui your home for greater prosperity, sexual intimacy, health and vitality.
Wed Aug 6
It’s about to get a bit more challenging or energized in the coming days from the astrological perspective. But today, relax and enjoy the emotional ease of a flowing grand trine between the Scorpio Moon and the Sun in Cancer and Uranus in Pisces, all water signs. Spend time on, in, or near water. Bask in intuitive awarenesses bubbling up from the deepest reaches of your soul and memory. And if tears arise, as they might, see them as a healing fountain of emotion, honoring all you have loved, and will love in the future. Also, this is the last day of Venus in multitasking, curious Gemini. This aspect might help you balance the checkbook or connect with a sibling (Gemini rules our sibling relationships) via the many forms of communication we now have available to stay in touch on our own terms and timing.

There’s a gift of a trine today that awaits an awaiting world, in dire need of cooperation, between Mars in Libra and Neptune in Aquarius. This aspect encourages conflicts to at last be resolved and seeming impasses dissolve due to a genuine desire for peace from all parties. Let’s hope….and keep those prayers and prayer wheels turning. Also today, Venus makes an entrance into Cancer for the next 3 weeks. Venus is considered to be the planetary ruler of our heart chakra, our sense of beauty, our love of art, our personal finances. Cancer is a sign associated with the exceptional parenting and care for our beloveds, and don’t forget yourself in that equation! Cancer phases might make us more secretive or private in our conversations, we can be prone to moodiness (meaning honor your moods, don’t try to drown them or banish them…feel through them). Some people can get extremely attached to their tribal affiliations, forgetting we are all part of the tribe of Humanity. This can be both a volatile and tender time for citizens of Earth. Tonight’s monthly Moon/Pluto conjunction often manifests as extreme emotionality. They align in the fiery truth-telling sign of Sagittarius. You may finally discover the deeper emotional truth you’ve been seeking about some issue, and be more than willing to express it, as is everyone else! Remember good conversations are like breathing…in breathe, listen….out breathe…express…in breathe…listen….out breathe….express…and on and on it goes.

Today we experience the always important conjunction of Mercury ~ all forms of communication ~ to our Sun. It’s a cosmic reboot, and may also affect our global communication systems. This aspect can illuminate our minds with creative brilliance (it is associated with geniuses), inspire sudden insights. It will encourage precise and focused communications especially with family members as these two planetary Beings are aligning in Cancer. And now we head into the gauntlet of this weekend’s Full Moon on Sunday. The waning quincunx of Saturn to Uranus is being triggered again, perhaps creating further forward movement surrounding shifts we’ve seen in recent months in terms of how we are willing, as Earth citizens, to help heal the great divides in our society, no longer turning away from the immense suffering so many are still feeling on our planet. Today’s Sun trine Uranus always creates a feeling of excitement, anticipation, or surprises landing at our door. This trine encourages us to be more experimental, but not in out-of-balance outrageous ways. Be willing to take a cautious risk and reap major rewards. Here’s a hint about tomorrow: Make plans to get up super early to embark upon a marathon endurance hike, or simply to just get lots of stuff done either around the home and gardens.
Sat Aug 9
The early morning hours can be feel solemn, serious and certainly focused as our holy Sun makes a quarterly square to Saturn. Saturn is about building structures, birthing something new, and having that important conversation you have been avoiding. In addition, the Saturn-ruled Capricorn Moon ~ tough love ~ opposes Venus in Cancer ~ warm and fuzzy smother love ~ so parents might be having a stand off as to how best to discipline or support their child in need.
Sun Aug 10
It’s Full Moon, which is usually a time for celebration and over the top joy. But as I’ve already mentioned in the opening to this week’s Signposts, the influence of Saturn is putting a damper on things, or at least potentially curbing your enthusiasm a tad. The Sun’s in Cancer and Moon is in Capricorn both closely squaring Saturn in Libra. All these signs rule our human relationships and how we relate with our lovers, our children, within our families, within our tribal nations. It’s time for truth-telling, crucial decsion-making, boundary setting. Since the Sun/Mercury conjunction is still in play, communicating the truth is easier even for the introverts and recluses.
On a personal note, I would like to share this. Today would have been my father’s 87th birthday. He passed on March 31 this year. Here’s the link to the poem I wrote, translating his message to us via me, which I feel holds increasing relevance and significance for these times: https://www.earthwordskyword.com/star-signposts-week-april-14-20/
Also, I would like to share this perceptively wise poem sent to me by my friend Lucinda Abbe:
“When I behold the sacred liao wo (species of grass) my thoughts return
To those who begot me, raised me, and now are tired.
I would repay the bounty they have given me,
But it is as the sky, it can never be approached.”
Happy First Spirit Birthday, beloved Dad. I feel your blessings ~ and Mom’s ~ helping all of us move forward, everyday.
