“The Upper Stretch” watercolor by Kathryn Mapes Turner
Overview
This New SolLunar Cycle in sidereal Scorpio brings an auspicious energy we can all be thankful for as we complete the celestial year of 2022 ending on Winter Solstice December 21. Jupiter has been in retrograde since July 29 and now shifts to forward motion at the exact moment of this New Moon — wow! Some of Jupiter’s attributes include optimism, keeping the faith, prosperity, natural joy and confidence so those qualities are strongly nourished in us with this New Moon and for the next four weeks.
Other key events during this period include Neptune in Aquarius completing its annual retrograde on December 3, the super-dynamic, even explosive Full Moon on December 7 aligned with Mars retrograde, and the glorious Winter Solstice in our Northern Hemisphere arriving on December 21, always a good time to sit in stillness with the resting trees, the sleeping animals, the depth of Earth qi nestling deep into the rocks. No words, just listening, being, smiling with gratitude for Life’s unending gifts.
Lastly, here is a quick reminder about the ongoing Mars retrograde we are enduring — that’s how it can feel — which began on October 30 2022 and completes on January 12 2023. The entire shadow period started at the first of September 2022 and completes during the first part of March 2023, a six-month realignment period. When Mars is retrograde every two years, it gives us a chance to examine where we are putting our energy on a daily basis and discern if those actions are aligned with our true values and heart desires. People can experience massive frustration with how things are now with little patience to be patient with the process. Are you feeling this in your life? In addition, Mars is aligned with a star called Alnitak in the latter part of astronomical Taurus. This star’s story is about an integrating earthly polarities of being, whether you sometimes experience a split regarding your lower self/Higher Self, your light/shadow aspects, your female/male aspects. Much is coming to the surface for healing during this time. Another way to work with Alnitak is to actually move beyond duality/polarity and become more conscious of your being as an energetic rainbow that manifests all the colors through the various chakras of your energy matrix and organs in your body. Different parts/colors of you are required on different days or with various activities. Once you realize this, the sense of being split is gone because you experience yourself, as well as life itself, as a continuum of energy. This can lead to greater acceptance, not judgment, of self, others, life circumstances. This has been the personal revelation I am practicing that came to me in the previous SolLunar Cycle. Either way, enormous patience is required right now — may you find ways to manifest the positive aspects of this essential and healing pause.
Thank you, dear friend, Kathryn Mapes Turner, for the use of your watercolors from the field for this post Their simplicity of form, capturing the essence of the land is perfect for this season of bare-boned, undressed nature. View more of Kathryn’s masterful work HERE.
Sidereal Astrology Mentoring and Readings
My posts are based on the true astronomical alignments of the planets with the constellations, also referred to as the sidereal zodiac. I use the phases of the Moon as the scaffold for my posts because the Moon functions like an energetic portal mediating between the heavens and our wondrous Earth. My entries are based on the aspects occurring each week as they crescendo, crest and dissipate over the course of their influence. As you work with and within the natural flow of time and the supportive cosmic energies that each unique SolLunar Cycle brings, life can flow with more ease, grace and understanding.
I delight in mentoring students—individually, with families or groups, and via workshops and conferences—who want to learn more about how to use sidereal astrology as a helpful tool for insight and awakening. Consider booking a mini-reading with me for $44 or $88, the numbers of living your Mastery on Earth. In these short readings, I discuss key personal transits that are happening for you in 2022 and beyond. Send me an email if you are interested in those options, or a full Natal Map, Update, Relationship Map, Young Adult or Child’s Map. Thank you!

New Moon in sidereal Scorpio: Sun/Moon conjunction in sidereal Scorpio trine JUPITER in Pisces TURNING DIRECT: Wed November 23 3:57 pm MT
Both Sun and Moon meet up in early Scorpio linked to stars that speak to the wisdom of the Elders. This part of sidereal Scorpio supports honoring all we have learned from life’s struggles and triumphs while also maintaining a sense of humor and endurance to keep going. Scorpio loves to mine the gold of our unique being, so bring that depth of connection to all your relations, with yourself, to your holiday/ HolyDay gatherings. As Jupiter has been transiting Pisces all year and continues to do so until April 2023, the need for rest, release, grieving, and spiritual evolution remain prominent themes, encouraging less frantic doing, more conscious being.

Venus in Scorpio square Juno in Aquarius trine Chiron in Pisces: Fri November 25
This co-supportive square brings honest and heartfelt conversations possibly linked to wounds suffered, challenges you are facing, as well as gifts you are owning up to. Feel your feelings without suppression and know that is another kind of strength: emotional resilience.
This builds on Thu November 24, crests Fri November 25, dissipates Sat November 26.
Pallas Athene in Cancer opposite Pluto in Capricorn: Wed November 30
This longer-range aspect, which won’t be done until early May 2023, is important in the backdrop to world events. Pallas Athene is the strategist, planner, ruler of creative wisdom in all areas of life. The opposition to transformational, composting Pluto encourages us to rethink everything and come up with solutions that work in this exceptional evolutionary moment of change, transforming all our institutions to become revitalized versions of themselves. And this can be true in your personal life as well so dream big, release what is outworn, and choose patience during the transitions.

Mercury in Scorpio opposite Mars retrograde in Taurus: Tue November 29
Mercury rules the mind, mental health, communication platforms and infrastructure. This intense, probing aspect allows you to self-analyze, think deeper about things, discern what is happening beneath the surface. It can manifest as technical glitches or breakdowns. It is good for focusing on finances as well.

LUNAR HIGHLIGHTS
Moon/Mercury/Venus conjunction in Scorpio trine Chiron in Pisces: Thu November 24
This obsessive, emotionally-focused trio brings honesty and intimacy to gatherings especially in one-to-one conversations where you feel safe to share. People are willing to dive beneath surface appearances and really share what is happening for them, discovering they are not alone as others open up, too.
Moon/Pluto in Capricorn opposite Pallas Athene in Cancer: Sun November 27
This serious-toned aspect is good for organizing, cleanup, for both home or work projects. Pluto’s regenerative nature helps you discard what you don’t want and can manifest as an unexpected physical purge or onset of illness.
First Quarter Moon
At the First Quarter Moon, you are called to action. The need to move forward with your recent insights can come via making a conscious choice or by challenging circumstances that require you make a move.
First Quarter Moon: Moon/Juno conjunction in Aquarius square Sun in Scorpio: Wed November 30
New partners/clients/helpers can appear or you take the next step with a current partner. Aquarius rules our circle of friends and community relations so reconnect with others, brainstorm a joint project, or make plans to meet up in the future.
This builds Tue November 29, crests Wed November 30, dissipates Thu December 1.
Venus in Scorpio opposite Mars retrograde in Taurus: Wed November 30
This magnetic or polarizing opposition helps us discern what is most true for us and how to take right actions based on that inner knowing. It can bring both conflict or perspective on current financial or sexual issues.
This crescendos Tue November 29, crests Wed November 30, dissolves Thu December 1.
Mercury in Scorpio square Neptune in Aquarius: Thu December 1
Cloudy communications or outright deception can be part of this tense square so don’t believe all you are being told. This aspect helps us uncover what’s really going on. It supports right-brain creativity and day-dreaming. Odd glitches might happen with appliances, vehicles, communication systems like there is a ghost in the machine. I’ve seen it happen for myself! Pay attention, maybe someone is trying to get your attention!
This builds Wed November 30, crests Thu December 1, dissipates Fri December 2.
Neptune in Aquarius turns direct: Sat December 3
A holy moment as the planet of imagination, creativity, spirituality returns to direct motion from the retrograde that began on June 28. This aspect is experienced in subtle ways or in your dreamtime with important intuitive hits guiding you. Make time for silence, meditation, listening so you can absorb the loving wisdom-stream it brings.
This crescendos Wed November 30, crests Sat December 3, dissipates Thu December 7.
Mercury in Sagittarius square Jupiter in Pisces: Mon December 5
It is a busy day for communication on all levels. Jupiter amplifies or exaggerates things so this aspect amps up the mind, social media posts and can lead to manic behavior in some. Squares often appear as re-routing challenges or pressure us to make a choice.
This crescendos Sun December 4, crests Mon December 5, dissipates Tue December 6.
LUNAR HIGHLIGHTS
Moon/Neptune/Jupiter conjunction in Aquarius/Pisces: Thu December 1
It can be day of heightened, even overwhelming emotion especially regarding feelings of compassion, grief, releasing the past. Engage in water activities for relaxation and move the lymphatic system, key for super-immunity, via a massage or long walk.
Moon/Uranus/North Node conjunction in Aries: Sun December 4 – Mon December 5
Uncertainty, sudden shifts, wobbly emotions are part of this pairing — Uranus in Aries — as you sense it is time to embrace where the future is taking you — North Node. Do you have the courage to take a leap?
Full Moon in sidereal Taurus/Scorpio
The Full Moon is the birth point of the current SolLunar Cycle. This can be a time of celebration or crisis, depending on your life circumstance. Feel the joy and relax into new discoveries and directions.
Full Moon is sidereal Taurus/Scorpio: Sun in Scorpio opposite Moon/Mars retrograde in Taurus square Juno in Aquarius: Wed December 7 9:08 pm MT
What a dynamic Full Moon this one is! Fueled by the ongoing Mars retrograde conjunct the bright Moon, this event is highly energizing but it can also bring conflicts to a head as some become combative or defensive in their relationships — Juno. A drumming dance party would be a great use of the fire and passion this Full Moon brings. MOVE.
This builds Mon December 5, crests Wed December 7, dissipates Fri December 9.
Venus in Sagittarius square Jupiter in Pisces: Fri December 9
Paying a price for some recent excess can be part of this aspect. It’s hard to decide if you want to spend more or less on a purchase. Do you feel your way through or analyze a situation when making a decision? This aspect brings good questions and maybe some answers.
This crescendos Thu December 8, crests Fri December 9, dissipates Sat December 10.
Sun in Scorpio sextile Saturn in Capricorn: Mon December 12
This is an energy of natural discipline, steady focus, supportive to endeavors in all ways. Good news can come regarding recent health tests or analyses.
This builds Sat December 10, crests Mon December 12, dissolves Wed December 14.
Sun in Scorpio square Neptune in Aquarius: Wed December 14
It can be hard to discern ‘reality’ when Neptune is involved because Neptune rules the realm of what is possible in our imagination, still to be born into form. Use this day to imagine bigger. Create something physical, like a vision board, as a reminder of your dreams. You might find it challenging to explain to someone your version of the world but keep trying. Or just let it go….
This builds Mon December 12, crests Wed December 14, dissipates Fri December 16.
LUNAR HIGHLIGHTS
Moon in Gemini opposite Venus/Mercury in Sagittarius: Fri December 9
This leads to bustling commerce everywhere. Multi-tasking is easy, flitting between social events is fun and not draining with the Gemini Moon.
Moon/Pallas Athene in Cancer opposite Pluto in Capricorn: Sun December 11
As Cancer Moon prefers to stay home, this aspect is perfect for organizing the home, holiday baking, hosting a gathering.
Last Quarter Moon
With the Last Quarter Moon, you release what has been and simultaneously prepare for what will be as new desires perpetually arise in the next SolLunar Cycle.
Last Quarter Moon: Sun in Scorpio square Moon in Leo: Fri December 16
The square aspect brings a desire to create something or finish things — like holiday baking, shopping or gift wrapping. Given that the Moon is also aligned with nurturing Ceres on this day, a feast of some kind is in order. Helping an elder or a child navigate a task or challenge is possible.
This builds Thu December 15, crests Fri December 16, dissolves Sat December 17.
Mercury in Sagittarius trine Uranus in Aries: Sat December 17
Mental sparks are flying with this inspirational aspect. A new way of viewing a situation appears as your mind is opened and awakened by Uranus in Aries. It is a day of intellectual discovery and physical adventure.
This builds Fri December 16, crests Sat December 17, dissipates Sun December 18.
Sun in Sagittarius square Jupiter in Pisces: Wed December 21
This can bring on temporary self-doubt after recent days of feeling more confident about life. Don’t attach to that storyline, just listen to any cautionary wisdom arising about a choice you are about to make.
This builds Mon December 19, crests Wed December 21, dissipates Fri December 22.
WINTER SOLSTICE: Wed December 21 2:47 pm MT
Glorious Winter Solstice arrives in our Northern Hemisphere and we depart one momentous 2022 cycle of creation and enter the seed moment for the New Year of 2023. Winter Solstice to me is like the last air we release from the bottom of a deep exhale. Emptiness. Quiet. Take some time this week to sit in stillness with the resting trees, the husks of flowers, the sleeping animals, the groundedness of Earth Qi nestling deep within the rocks. No words, just listening, smiling with gratitude with Life’s unending gifts and mysteries that walk hand and hand with our challenges.
LUNAR HIGHLIGHTS
Moon/South Node in Libra opposite Uranus/North Node in Aries: Mon December 19
This exciting opposition offers clues about what you need to finish up to make space for incoming delights, adventure and creative vision. Be spontaneous if possible.
Moon in Scorpio opposite Mars retrograde in Taurus: Wed December 21 – Thu December 22
The last day of this momentous SolLunar Cycle is also the first day of the celestial New Year in the Northern Hemisphere. Scorpio counsels you to feel deeply, claim your deepest longings and know the essential role you play on Earth — Taurus.
Blessed New SolLunar Cycle is sidereal Sagittarius on Fri December 23 3:16 am MT.
